I've seen Ryan Overturf call this card too good for lower power cubes, so just wondering what people's opinions are with this card after a year. It still seems like a lot of mana for what it does.
as for Nadaar, Selfless Paladin, he probably plays better than we think he will & his baseline stats arent the worst + you get some immediate value off him when he etb's (to mitigate the mana investment), b/c he definitely doesnt pass the vindicate test. he by no means is cracking really tight cubes, but he's not terrible & throwing 3 xtra "dungeon tokens" in a big cube box isnt going to detract anyone from running him
This definitely DOES pass the Vindicate test...Your opponent is spending just as much mana to answer your threat but you get value from the etb venture.
With Lost Mine as the main choice this is kind of a weird Rabblemaster variant that trades explosiveness for a better body, more flexibility, and a scry. I think it's better than it looks at first glance. Especially if white ends up with a couple of other decent venture cards. And its pretty great with blink effects too.
If you control two or more other lands, Den of the Bugbear enters the battlefield tapped.
T: Add R.
3R: Until end of turn, Den of the Bugbear becomes a 3/2 red Goblin creature with "Whenever this creature attacks, create a 1/1 red Goblin creature that's tapped and attacking." It's still a land.
A fastland/manland/Hanweir Garrison combo seems pretty good to me. I hope there's a full cycle of these.
I'm going to pick up the new STE, Dryad, and Spell Queller. Too bad the Hero's Downfall has goofy cartoon art, I'd like a cooler version of it.
I normally don't like old bordered cards but the Signets are very tempting. I'm running Talismans now but I might grab a set of Signets just in case I ever want to swap.
I've seen Bone Shards get some discussion in the testing thread and on Reddit but I didn't see a thread here.
This can support sacrifice/Aristocrats and can be a discard outlet for reanimator. I support aristocrats and have been thinking of playing it. Black has gotten a lot of good removal lately so it has a lot of competition but its a pretty unique card that works in multiple decks. I might cut my last Doom Blade variant (Heartless Act) for it.
I like it but I dont think many people are looking for more 2cc rocks, especially ones that die to everything. I'd probably play it in a cube without Signets/Talismans.
I have to agree that Glorybringer is better. Being able to bash a PW and kill a creature is gas.
I still like Fury since it interacts favorably with blink, reanimation, Sneak Attack, etc. I'm only running 3 5 mana red creatures so I think I can squeeze it in.
I like this a lot. I think people are underestimating how annoying an infinite 3/1 can be to get through. I suppose its meh in an MTGO style vintage combo cube but I'll be playing it in unpowered.
I think this is the best card of the cycle so far. The Evoke mode will be relevant more often than Grief or Subtlety. Guess it's time to add Ephemerate to my cube.
1BBB is just so rough to get on curve. Many decks won't be able to consistently hit that until late enough that your opponent could be empty-handed. This feels like another close-but-not-quite-there card. I also like Grief more and that card is borderline, imo, and I don't know if there's room for both.
This definitely DOES pass the Vindicate test...Your opponent is spending just as much mana to answer your threat but you get value from the etb venture.

Mystical Archives Counterspell
vs full art MH2 Counterspell
If it wasn't for the flavor text I think MA would easily win, however, the simplicity of the MH2 textbox is very appealing.
