This appears to be a 'situation' of your own imagining.

Yes. You may stop reading now, if you wish.

I'll be honest. I have no idea what you are talking about.

    Correct...

Okay, you've misread what Intimidate means, this may help.

Intimidate cares whether you share a colour with the creature or whether you are an artifact creature. If either is true, you can block. If neither is true, you cannot.

    The following can block Vela:
    Any artifact creature
    Any creature that is blue
    Any creature that is black

    The following cannot block Vela:
Any creature that is neither blue, nor black, nor an artifact.

    Clarity?

I believe he is referring to situations where some card says that you can't do something, and another card says that you can. This comes up pretty rarely.

As far as the actual question, the official wording on intimidate is this...

702.12b A creature with intimidate can’t be blocked except by artifact creatures and/or creatures that share a color with it.

So if your creature is an artifact, it falls under the exception. It's much easier to realize this when you re-read the actual wording on intimidate.

    Read Mimic again Wink

Just because the Thragtusk token is a token doesn't mean it doesn't have the ability. The ability gets copied into the tokens it makes. The Thragtusk token looks like this...

    Thragtusk 4G
    Creature - Beast
When ~ ETB, Gain 5 Life
    When ~ LTB, get a 3/3 Beast
At the beginning of your upkeep, if ~ is not a token, put a token copy into play.

Since the token is a token, the ability does nothing. However, if you put Mimic into play copying that token, it will look like this.

    Thragtusk 4G
    Creature - Beast
When ~ ETB, Gain 5 Life
    When ~ LTB, get a 3/3 Beast
At the beginning of your upkeep, if ~ is not a token, put a token copy into play.
At the beginning of your upkeep, if ~ is not a token, put a token copy into play.

...And it won't be a token. On your upkeep you will get 2 tokens.

    EDIT: Relevant oracle rulings...

4/15/2013: If you choose to have Progenitor Mimic enter the battlefield as a copy of a creature, the triggered ability it gains will become part of its copiable values. For example, suppose Progenitor Mimic enters the battlefield as a copy of Runeclaw Bear, a 2/2 green Bear creature with mana cost {1}{G}. The resulting object is a 2/2 green Bear creature named Runeclaw Bear with mana cost {1}{G} and with “At the beginning of your upkeep, if this creature isn’t a token, put a token onto the battlefield that’s a copy of this creature.” If another Progenitor Mimic enters the battlefield as a copy of that creature, it will be a Runeclaw Bear with two instances of the triggered ability.

4/15/2013: If the chosen creature is a token, Progenitor Mimic copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that put it onto the battlefield. Copying a token doesn’t make Progenitor Mimic become a token.

    Scenario 2:

At his EOT, flash Resto Angel, Blink Prog Mimic. Have him Enter as a copy of the Thragtusk Token that he made. You gain 5 life and he now has 2 instances of the upkeep trigger. On your upkeep he'll make 2 thragtusk copies putting you at 16 life, and be able to kill him next turn with an alpha strike.

Something like that is probably pretty good. Comes out to 22.80

EDIT: You might be able to do a budget High Tide deck. The core is pretty cheap, and you get to run Frantic Search. Something like...

That's probably pretty close to $25. Not sure how consistent it would be though.

Just popped in my mind lately, that Teysa is the real answer to handle opposing Aetherling. The best and only option TBH. She also shines vs Midrange. 1 in SB should be enough.

They will just blink the Aetherling in response to Teysa's ability. I guess you still get a 1/1 though. Yay.

I think Teysa costs too much at 7 to warrant even a single copy in a standard Esper control list. Solar flare, on the other hand...

I did notice that guttersnipe usually felt alittle underwhelming in most games but the games he was good (removal light decks) he would do anywhere from 8-14 damage alone...

I think I need to test out Nivmagus it's just that the thought of eating a spell I cast would feel..bad, but like you said he would be a monster if I got the Hidden Strings/Hands of Binding Engine going.

I originally was running the Thought Scour/Pike package but dident like it to much (even though it was not much testing at all) but I do intend to test it again for sure.

I just want to know if 4 Think Twice's is to much? I feel I need it if I dont run any cantrips.

I only ever ran 3 in my UG Delver. I would like to have fit a 3rd one in that list, but it's pretty tight. Then again, I always played 3 Thought Scour as well for a total of 6 draw spells, 3 flashbacks. I wish Turn cantripped Slant

There aren't very many good cheap recurring draw spells in the format right now unfortunately.

I actually really like this. Hidden Strings allows for some really neat things. This is the only use of Ral Zarek that I have seen that I agree with. However, I would change/add a few things.

Nivmagus Elemental - Seriously? Yes. I played UG Delver for a time, and this card single handedly won my games. Paired with Cipher spells, this guy can grow fast. I only havd Hands of Binding at the time, but now Hidden Strings makes this guy even better.

Runechanter's Pike - The standard equipment that works well with Delver Decks.

Thought Scour - The go-to 1 mana draw spell right now. Synergizes well with Snapcaster (flashback spells in general) and Pike.

That being said, I'm not sure I like Guttersnipe. Nivix Cyclops with Pike, Artful Dodge and tap effects could just swing for a win instantly, and with a 4 toughness, he's good early too. Guttersnipe is just too fragile and dependent on protection. I would build it something like this...

Just my 2 cents. I do like the concept for sure.

A dear friend of mine will be celebrating his birthday within 3 weeks. I intend on giving him a foil Ral Zarek, which I already own, and I wanted to write a little something on the back of the card as a memento.

I wanted to know if he will still be allowed to use the card, considering he uses opaque sleeves on his decks.

As long as he uses completely opaque sleeves, it generally shouldn't be a problem. However, if you were to simply write on the front of the card, as long as it doesn't provide any strategic advice, it would be much more unlikely to get called as a marked card.

Alternatively you could do what Macius said, and just write on a clear sleeve on the card and that would make sure it's never a problem, and if would also not depreciate the value of the card at all.

    A) You are correct. Kor Spiritdancer triggers when you cast the Rancor, and regardless of whether or not it resolves, you will still draw a card.

    B) The stack would look like this...

Path to Exile (Targetting Kor Spiritdancer)
Draw a Card from Kor Spiritdancer
    Rancor

Path to Exile would resolve, exiling your Kor Spiritdancer (and you can search for a basic land), then you would draw a card, then Rancor would fizzle due to its target being illegal.

Now that the rules update is out, I still don't see anything preventing you from making an arbitrarily large amount of triggered abilities on your copied creature. Here is the relevant rulings...

    Quote from Rules »
    * Progenitor Mimic copies exactly what was printed on the original creature and nothing more (unless that creature is copying something else or is a token). It doesn’t copy whether that creature is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, or so on.

    * The original Progenitor Mimic will create tokens, but those token copies will not.

    * If you choose to have Progenitor Mimic enter the battlefield as a copy of a creature, the triggered ability it gains will become part of its copiable values.

    * If the chosen creature is a token, Progenitor Mimic copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that put it onto the battlefield. Copying a token doesn’t make Progenitor Mimic become a token.

    * Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied creature will trigger when Progenitor Mimic enters the battlefield. Any “as [this creature] enters the battlefield” or “[this creature] enters the battlefield with” abilities of the chosen creature will also work.

    * If the chosen creature has {X} in its mana cost (such as Protean Hydra), X is considered to be zero.

    * If Progenitor Mimic somehow enters the battlefield at the same time as another creature, it can’t become a copy of that creature. You may only choose a creature that’s already on the battlefield.

    * You can choose not to copy anything. In that case, Progenitor Mimic enters the battlefield as a 0/0 Shapeshifter creature and is probably put into the graveyard immediately.

    Specifically note...

    So does this still work?
I figured I wouldn't create another thread to verify this, seeing as this one is still on the first page.

EDIT: Actually, the Comp Rules don't get updated until May 1st. Woops.

The delayed trigger for Legion's Initiative will return the demon to play, but then the "beginning of combat" has already passed for sake of triggering abilities. The Demon's ability will not trigger, and they will not have the chance to sacrifice.

If you have vehicles/a vehicle, tell us about it! How long have you had it? Why did you pick it? Do you like it? (If not what would you like to have?) Do you share it with anyone?

I have a skateboard that I use to get around most places in the area. I would like a car, but cars are expensive =/

  • posted a message on The person who decides whether to draw or play
    Quote from RabidVacin
The last sanctioned tournament I played in was over ten years ago. Back then, the following method would be used to determine who got to choose whether to play or draw:

Game 1: Each player would roll a die and the person who rolled higher would decide whether to draw or play first.
Game 2: The loser of game 1 decides whether to play or draw.
Game 3. The loser of game 2 decides whether to play or draw.

Is the process same or different nowadays?

Back then, the process seemed very unofficial. If no one had a die to roll, each player would randomly pick a card from their deck and the one with the highest cmc would decide whether to play or draw. Are there official rules for this process?

The process is basically the same.
The rules only say that in game 1, players must randomly determine which player chooses to play or draw. This process doesn't matter, as long as both players agree that it is random.

Pulling a random card out of your deck, however, would technically be revealing hidden information, and could get you a warning or game loss at higher RELs.
