KickinChicken posted a message on [MOM] [MUL] [MOC] More Legends from First Look: March of the MachinesI do love ALL of these legends. But I'm starting to think this is WotC's (most likely successful) attempt at jumping the shark (link, btw, explains where the phrase comes from for those who do not know... look up the expression to fully understand what it implies), by combining the characters and by having all of the recently visited plains partaking in the ensuing face-off (sorry/not sorry... had to do it) between the Phyrexians and the rest of the planes. Here's to hoping Lorwyn has a word in all of this; it would be a shame if they were left out (I mean Alara is taking part, so why not Lorwyn?)...Posted in: The Rumor Mill -

Anybody else irked by the bodyshaming here? And how do you know Wizards isn't acknowledging here that there are also women who are into women and would enjoy artwork like this?
Is it okay now to erase women who aren't exclusively into men? Or to shame people, men and women alike, for having no control over where hair grows on their body? What if there's women who do like having hairs on their neck? Is it okay to judge them in such a way?
It's 2022, not 1922. You don't like the art, that's okay. Insulting people over their bodies or preferences isn't.
Not saying you can't speak your mind, just letting you know that disparaging statements like that won't always go unchallenged.
I for one commend Wizards for acknowledging the people enjoying artwork like this who don't happen to be cis-gender straight males. They exist too, and they certainly deserve their share of fanservice. -

Blade of Selves, the $30 card in nearly 9,000 decks on EDHREC? Such a burden in every binder...Quote from Evil Never Dies »Oh please, you are all acting so much worried and this card will go burden in everybody binder which is exactly the same fate that Blade of Selves faced also (because it turn out, guess what, that players actually realize that cards that do literally nothing when against a single opponent are the first ones to not make the cut in a decent EDH deck)
Honestly, this card won't see as much play as that. I like Myriad. But they overcosted this one. -

Capricorns are a type of personality, the sea-goat thing makes a lot more sense in ancient babylon. Essentially a symbol of the god Ea (or Enki), it was frequently depicted on stone tablets known as kudurru. Kudurru were used mainly to mark land granted by kings to governors or vassals, and Ea was the god of water and also civilization, so it was under his auspice that such land grants were made and expected to be kept. So essentially the god Ea and the sea-goat or goat-fish were associated with accomplishing a great deed or achieving a difficult goal, particularly within a traditional civilized system. I think an argument could be made for white or white/black but modern readings of capricorn tends to emphasize the ambition more than the tradition aspect.
Anyway it's astonishing to me the expectations y'all have of a game that's just a few steps removed from gambling. Literally founded on the premise that you'd ante up cards. This game launched with game-breaking "rare" cards that would wipe the floor with any chuds who didn't cough up enough dough to win games. The only "fair" way to play this game is if everyone gets random packs and passes them around and even then it's still a coin flip to see if you get mana hosed later. It's blackjack with airs. -

SyrixLoremaster posted a message on [SLD] The Astrology LandsPosted in: The Rumor MillQuote from Dontrike »Quote from Evil Never Dies »Yeah, "Not every Magic product is for every player" should be a mantra repeated every day, everywhere in the MtG community. Who think otherwise it's a compulsive collector, and the problem in that case it's not of WotC but exclusively of their own.
I remember back when every set/product was for every player and not pushed basic lands for $100+.
I remember last year when I spent almost $400 on a set of basic lands. They did and still do bring a smile to my face when I play them at prereleases as part of the "Limited set" I bring. Still amuses me to no end to have a full set of foil full text basics. And I'm sure when I come across that one individual that also shares my enthusiasm over expensive collectible cardboard rectangles, I will enjoy them that much more for having that shared experience. -

Xcric posted a message on Commander Banned and unbanned announcemntPosted in: The Rumor MillQuote from Iceheart_Omnis »I seriously don't understand all the noise about an announcement for a *checks notes* casual, unsanctioned format. Why would Commander of all formats need a banlist? If somebody lames your playgroup to death with Golos, just tell the person to stop running that deck. Bans make sense in sanctioned, competitive formats where asking people to pretty please stop playing 4x Oko,Thief of Crowns is obviously not gonna work if there are prizes on the line. I think Commander should have a let's say, advisory list of potentially troublesome cards, but leave the decision up to individual playgroups.
Youre aware there are commander events and its played in environments where consistency needs to be a thing right?
Imagine for a moment you roll up and find out the store has banned xyz and now you have to cut all those cards without a backup plan.
It also works the same if they allow xyz and youre ill equipped to deal with it.
Some things are also incredibly toxic to the format. Without a banned list you can turn your game night into a hellscape and it makes new players not want to come back.
One personal example is when my local group was doing 2v2 a lot on edh night. We had to house rule time warps didnt effect both players because thats all that was dominating the meta. This caused several people to not come back as they felt their deck concept was wrecked and they had no replacements.
Rule 0 is not a magical catch all.
No banned list works fine at home, but not in public - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Good to see Faceless Haven go too, it's just too strong with vigilance and its size, and its side-combo with that book wasn't great either. Just too much going on there, another failure by Play Design.
Pleasantly surprised by no Modern bans, friends and I have just bought into the format so we're pretty happy.

In the end, these content-provider previews aren't that enticing; I would rather have the full spoiler up asap so I can get to brewing and altering decks, but I suppose it's always been staggered.

Good job here, these are staples in EDH!

I will be jamming the Inverter combo in my Sultai dredgreless; it does not really mesh with what the deck wants to do, but if I can just do "Woops I win" and get more store credit or $, I'm ok with that.
Lotus Field is fine. You can deal with it with Damping Sphere, the new equip + Assassin's Trophy or Field of Ruin, etc.
It's a combo deck, but it is fair as far as this format goes.

This is sweet!
I was thinking more in a Fires of Invention shell, drop 2 Cavaliers, then this bad boy x 2 the turn after.
Use Cavalier of Gales to sift for your options muhahaha!
