Tapping for any color and keeping that up against a variety of removal can be huge for some decks. I've had draws crippled by a killed Birds of Paradise before, so helping to ensure smooth fixing is pretty nice. This card is sweet.
This is going to be sick in constructed, but ultimately needing a mountain makes this too tough to use. There will probably be games where it's the sickest card t1...and then there will be games where you can't cast it. Kinda meh.
I like this card a good amount. Potentially digs 4 deep and it's pretty easy to cast. Seems like a conditionally easier to cast Sign in Blood, which some cubes still run.
I think it's interesting that they finally printed a planeswalker with only two abilities.
You're underrating the second ability. There will definitely be boards where that's super relevant.
I have mixed feelings about this Elspeth. I like having the creatures be CMC 6+ since reanimation strategies/cheat strategies like to use/abuse them, and while pooping out tokens and eliminating parts of boards with a pretty insane ultimate seems strong, is it enough for 4WW? Will probably try it if I get one in the prerelease or any of the ensuing drafts, but it's not a card I'd be willing to go out of my way to try without hearing how other people have liked it first.
How does it gain you life? They usually just race him and kill you.
In the instances where he gets attacked down, it's because they can't race him. Which means that you used his {-} ability off the bat. So it's not a cantrip + life gain at that point.
I try to play him into boards where he doesn't die instantly/seems to be able to live, but if they can get through and kill him then I'm able to draw more cards and find other ways to win if the JMA plan doesn't work. But, let's not have the JMA discussion again. I like him a lot, you don't--cool!
Sometimes! Other times, it is a 5-mana cantrip (or 5-mana Divination across two turns), or an actual do nothing (when you lose the race milling). Which is why it was low on my list.
-AA
Well, it's a 5 mana cantrip that gains you 5+ life, but yeah, sometimes it's not the greatest. But when it is, it wins the game.
Also, unless this set is super fast.. Absurd limited bomb?
Even if this set is super fast, it's rare to see a set with a surplus of quality one drops, so at least on the play this drops early enough to make a difference. Also in limited you're playing more creatures and such typically even if you would be blue so the chance of hitting devotion is a bit higher. And it's indestructible in a set/format that will most likely have a lot of Enchantment removal.
This card seems pretty legit. Let's you dig for your win cons and other blue cards, so you can make those win cons get in there or make Thassa herself do it. And it's indestructible! Seems cool.
Not to be a show-off, but I just picked up my FTV 20 at face value from my LGS. Pretty ****ing awesome, gonna open it and put all the stuff I won't be using in my binder not a big fan at how curved the foils are, but hey, I got it for $40 and one card alone from it doubles that price--can't complain!
Dream Halls (I think this one is pretty key. This card plus a bunch of draw spells is fairly potent).
This x1000. If you're going to run storm combo, you need to run Dream Halls. Being able to run through all your draw spells for just about free until you hit your kill condition and a high enough storm combo is awesome, and Dream Halls allows you to do just that.
Sorcery 2B
Scry 2, then draw two cards. You lose two life.

Memory Adept should definitely be on that list, the card is a thorough beating.
Pack 1 Pick 1 #10: What would you choose?
Timetwister in Cube: Sky talks about Timetwister in cube.
Pack 1 Pick 1 #11: And...erm...what would you choose?

So, yeah, agreed, absolutely absurd limited bomb.
This is unfortunately the worst part about it. Before I even opened the packaging the cards were already starting to bend :/
Unless one of the other 3 cards you're putting on the bottom is one you need. (Or all three of them.)
Also:
So it's not uncommon to see cube owners play it as such.
