Jul 20, 2013Mastodon posted a message on Why Scavenging Ooze is better than Deathrite ShamanI think scavenging ooze is definitely better as graveyard hate than shaman is in most cases since his ability is a lot more flexible for that purpose. However, I don't really think you can say either is better than the other because they both play two completely different roles.Posted in: DOLZero Blog

Jul 19, 2013Mastodon posted a message on My thoughts on the direction of the game.It is actually a very interesting implementation, one that I think the game desperately needed, but maybe now it's time to try and make the other parts of the game a little more balanced. As you can see, many people are kind of sick of wizards pushing creatures so hard. Even new players begin to wonder why don't we have better spells?Posted in: Greatness at any cost

Its definitely playable in a sleeve. Like I said, it was in hard plastic sleeve which saved it from being crumpled. -

Feb 17, 2012Mastodon posted a message on Esper Teachings Primer DraftThank you.Posted in: Greatness at any cost
As I said, the thread and sub-section for esper teachings has been taken down. I asked feathers about it, but I haven't gotten a reply yet.
I've only heard about grim harvest and have yet to give it a try. When I do, I'll add it if it seems viable.
Honestly, I'm a bit more concerned if there are any cards that I discussed that really shouldn't be in the primer. -
Feb 16, 2012Mastodon posted a message on Why I hate GideonThough I definitely agree he's probably the lamest with his abilities and ability to control your opponents creatures so well, but I feel a lot of people have come to hate karn a lot more just because karn generally takes all of your opponent's stuff lol.Posted in: Zelderex Blog
Either way, having elspeth make a flying 5/5 mirran crusader that beats for 10 is just down right ****ty. And having your opponent look at the top card of your library with his JTMS, laugh, and then put it on the bottom of your library is also pretty ****ty. -
Feb 16, 2012Mastodon posted a message on Esper Teachings Primer DraftThanks. I was still trying to pull some deck lists together, but it looks like the esper teachings part of the established section under the modern forum has been removed for whatever reason (I guess because it's not a tier 1 deck? I dunno). I had some other decklists in mind, but they were under that section and now they're gone lol.Posted in: Greatness at any cost

Though I'm sure I have stuff to get a playset of seachrome coast, I'm not even going to bother. They don't really even help out my deck that much considering it curves out at 5, 6, and 7 lol. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
Personally, I think abzan charm is worth more people trying since celestial colonnade and other mid-rangey win-cons are so prevalent these days and it handles them in a pinch as well as works as a divination...plus its instant speed as opposed to a sorcery which gives us the ability to play the stack a little more. I get the whole one extra card thing is kind of a big deal, but like I said, if you haven't tried abzan charm, give it a shot.
This is actually what it boils down to. There's plenty of successful junk lists that don't run lilly or goyf, but they're a different kind of deck that is primarily discussed in another thread. I know the primer and thread title can be a bit misleading in that regard, but this thread is for discussion of b/g/x midrange...not really the aggro variants.
I mentioned it in the primer, but this thread is primarily for competitive discussion of the traditional variants and therefore the treefolk discussion should probably go under its own thread.
Depends on lists, of course but:
Out: thoughtseize (leave in IOK though), probably one bob and/or one scavenging ooze depending on how much you have to bring in.
In: Kitchen finks, zealous persecution, damnation, good blockers. If you have something to take out for fulminator mage thats a possibility. This is also one of the few matchups I really like timely reinforcements since they don't have trample or any way of interacting with the lifegain portion.
Spreading seas is probably the most problematic thing for us as it can really keep us off balance in casting timely removal spells or blockers. Other problematic cards include master of waves (mainly because it blanks abrupt decay and liliana), tidebinder mage, harbinger of the tides, threads of disloyalty (this one can cause HUGE blowouts), kira, great glass spinner, and also the occasional well-placed vapor snag.
I know it seems kind of vague, but it just depends on what you have access too. Damnation is probably the best card we have access too that's commonly played. There are several very narrow cards like Scryb Ranger and stuff like that that aren't commonly played.
I've been meaning to do this for a while, as well as get a bunch of other updates made but have just been really busy with end of school year stuff. I'll try to get some updates made either tomorrow night or saturday (probably saturday night).
Also, I've been playing jund more than junk lately which is why I haven't really made too many updates in a while, but may be swinging back into white again with tec-edge being a lot more viable than in recent modern meta.
I'm a little less upset at wizards though because it would have been a bit more difficult to spend the time in testing to figure out this deck could be potentially problematic. But treasure cruise was a just a clear indication that wizards spends next to zero time playtesting new cards in modern/legacy. I still don't understand why wizards hasn't gone to the modern and legacy communities to get help in this regard. We all know damn well there are people on this forum that are perfectly capable of evaluating cards reasonably and will actually spend the time to do so...for free, even. Modern would have a lot of problems solved by now if they actually had people doing research and playtesting things providing actual data that isn't from MTGO which is terribly skewed.
