I would always play 4 citadel. That card is just tooooo good with tez. Your mana looks solid enough

you are pretty much right. The card is inherently a 2 for 1. As I said, vs some decks with low removal it will straight up win you games but that's more and more rare these days. I doubt you will find many decks that play it even in affinity shells

I have a personal love for the spaghetti overlords so I don't think my version is any better. Maybe it it, maybe it isn't but I think it's certainly a viable alternative way to play the deck. Still testing obviously but it feels like I'm on to something. Plus it feels great to have a semi-homebrew that works.

@Benni my only issue with ensoul is it's a very high risk high reward card. You kind if have to build around it for it to be good. For instance, suiting up citadel is earliest swing on t3. If you can opal it out that means your deck has a lot of early plays almost like affinity. That's not a problem necessarily though. The bigger problem is, some decks that card will 2 for 1 you and sometimes stone rain as well if you are losing a citadel. Against some decks it will straight win you the game all on it's own. My personal problem is it's too random which is why I wouldn't play it. Maybe as a 1 of from the board. I'm not a fan of the liability. It can also turn on removal that would otherwise be dead, like on an ensouled-talisman for example. Maybe I'm just a chicken Smile

had a great run with my tezz foundrazi v2

    r1: grixis delver 1-0
g1: early delver with counter back up had me worried for a while. went to really low life total but with some eldrazi applying pressure I was able to hold off until I assembled the combo. I was at really low life but there was nothing he could do to stop it
g2: I have the most insane hand of citadel, disfigure, spell snare, visions, talisman, seer, negate. If I only draw a land I'm golden. Super high risk high reward hand. I rip a temple. He plays an early thing in the ice which I ignore. he draws 4 bolts and thankfully no cantrips and with eldrazi and discard I rip apart his hand and eventually am able to get him low enough that a foundry alone making a few thopters was able to get through his flipped thing in the ice.

r2: mono white enchantment prison 2-0
g1: I Know what she's playing and was able to mull some awful hands. kept a keepable 5 and went to town. eldrazi beats and swords got me there through ghostly prisons and suppression field
g2: she mulls to 5 and starts, double leyline of sanctity, nykthos, go. I ignore it, play eldrazi and demolish her with some counters as backup.

    r3: gw hatebears 2-1
g1: I play a bit of everything this game and manage to get there pretty easily. His guys suck and is forced to trade multiple dudes for 1 of mine. I tick tezz up to 7 (wtf?) trying to find a sword. I don't but end up getting there after a crappy 4 point ult and a smasher swing.
g2: he t2 stony silences me when I have but 1 citadel in play. then follows with kitaki. Obviously I lose this.
g3: Here was a savage misplay by me. I kept a solid hand and basically boiled down to this. I play an early lili and undervalue her. I discard the wrong things thinking she wasn't going to win me the game but the wurmcoil in my hand with a damnation would. if I would have ditched the wurmcoil instead of a respaher and kept her around I would have won. He eventually land taxed me too hard and fell further and further behind never being able to cast the cards in my hand. If I would have damnationed his 1 guy to keep lili alive I would have won. Oh well, was a great learning experience I'm not that salty about it, I learned to play better. It certainly cost me the match though.

    r4: esper control 3-1
g1: This was a hilarious game for me. he hates eldrazi so what do I draw? t3 reality smasher off temple+talisman. He paths it discarding. next turn smasher. he snapcaster path+discarding. next turn rip smasher, which he eventually deals with but by then I assemble combo and he can't win as he has no cards, suck it control player.
g2: He mulls to 5 and I have an insane hand, long as I draw 1 land to play a talisman. I do. my t2 I play talisman with spell snare and or dispel backup. He plays esper charm eot, I dispel it, boom got there. Couple thought-knots later and a combo I win easy.

    Bonus round ub faeries 4-1
these were all long games. Lots of countering and jockeying for a decent board despite removal and lots of tokens. g2 faeries did their thing and countered and killed everything I played. went 3 games but the final game was early eldrazi with some ramp and timely counters for an easy game.

Thoughts: I love this deck I think it can be a real deck. I love the insanity that is eldrazi and I love tezzeret. Not sure I would change much main. Reality smasher is a hell of a card as is Tez (but you guys already know that). Reshaper was amazing. seer was just fine. Tezz and smasher basically always won me games they were played. 4/3 combo split was perfect minus the 1 rando game tezz ticked up to 7 and I couldn't find a sword lol. Even random swords were decent as I have guys to equip to. Biggest problem with the deck is no real way to deal with a resolved stony silence or the like. I need to add something in the SB I think. I'm not sure if bounce will cut it though. Most times it's fine and I can play around it but certain decks like the hate bears the taxing is too much. maybe it's worth stretching my mana some to try to include some white as there are talismans to help.

@ashtonkutcher actually you are probably right. combined with abrupt decay and pulse to kill the foundry and the tokens I could still see him doing work. I might have to go back to my sultai build, I did really enjoy how it played. Having some thopter sword back up seems decent too.

I played sultai tez before the bans with decay and goyf. Honestly it was a bit different if a deck. It was little less on the all in artifacts, which was great as there was a lot of affinity hate. Goyf was constantly a 5/6+. I went 3-1 at almost all of my fnms. I haven't tried it post bans but that style beat down deck really depends on the meta. He's terrible in a thopter meta. I think he's still worth paying and testing but I'm a bit dubious. Abrupt decay on the other hand is still phenomenal. People who say it's not worth it are, in my opinion, wrong. Again it's meta dependant. With a meta of aggro or burn probably not as your mana becomes potentially pretty painful. Still, beating down with a 5/6 goyf like turn 3 feels awesome but it's a different deck, not that that is necessarily a bad thing. Hard to tell so early in the season.

@headminerve if you didn't take note about what was discussed about HBW why are you asking why we don't play it? Sadly that card has been discussed and tested and while I can't speak for every deck the card isn't very good. It's so effing slow and most decks will just ignore it. Despite getting multiple guys it doesn't really attack as it's expensive to play and requires tapping to get bigger. You spend turns and mana doing nothing with it. I've played quite a lot with it went from 4 to 1 very quickly. It's not unplayable but modern is way too fast of a format. My biggest problem is modern is a format of huge impact cards. HBW is the opposite of that.

well I went a kind of disappointing 2-2 last night at fnm with this list but not because I made mistakes or got outplayed...

    r1: grixis control (1-0)
g1 some discard with eldrazi beats took him down no problem. Combo got out but destroyed
g2 he played visions t1 and the turn it went off went like this. draw 3 dards, draw for turn, cast goblin dark-dwellers draw 3 more cards. I lost but made me kinda want to play grixis.
g3 very early eldrazi and smasher took it home. I top decked pretty well with an inquisition on the turn I was to kill him.

    r2 mardu midrange (1-1)
g1 again early eldrazy beats with smasher was impossible for him to get through. tez sealed the deal with 5/5s
g2 dark confidant was too much card advantage. combined with removal and lingering sould not much I could do. I didn't see much of anything that game. only half the combo and no tez.
g3 I got flooded SUPER hard. I even bottomed 2 lands with Serum visions and just kept ripping lands. that's magic for you. Had half the combo again. 3 Lingering Souls cards did me in.

r3 bring to light scapeshift (2-1)
g1/2 both of these games were super quick and easy. he had exceedingly mediocre draws. early eldrazi combined with tez put him under in no time. Admittedly, g2 he drew pretty poorly not that it would have changed too much. with discard and fast hard beats, not even scapeshift would save him.

    r4 goblins (2-2)
these games were all pretty similar. r1 he got totally dominated by eldrazi and discard. The smasher is a hell of a card. g2 and 3 I lost to explosive starts backed with 2+ effing goblin grenades and lightning bolts. he seriously had 2+ grenades all 3 games. g2 I survived the grenades but legion loyalist made my newly assembled throper combo irrelevant. g3 I got flooded again but this time with lands AND signets. This might just be a terrible matchup. The guys are all hasted pretty much. They start low power and get big (goblin piledriver) so bridge isn't overly useful and chalice is basically garbage. They refill so quickly most sweepers are necessary but not usually great. backed with just taking 10 to the face through grenades and jeez...

    mvps
Reality Smasher - won or helped win every game it was played
Tezzeret - won me every game it was played

the combo was basically irrelevant all night. I need to get another sword plus foundry. It felt unplayable and a waste of 5 card slots. I feel like its play 7 of them or nothing. even with 4 serum, 3 tez, a ruins and 2 thirst, once a piece is removed you will never see it again which is what happened. Tez and smasher through both won me games when they were played. I cannot stress how awesome they were. The 11 eldrazi were just bananas all night against every deck. This deck has all the tools to play them and the tez game at the same time. Going forward I'm shaving a land, moving explosives to the side, probably cutting a thirst and adding more spot removal. I think this deck has potential. Once I smooth the mana and figure out proper configuration of removal and business I think this is a real viable way to go. It is easy to hate on but super hard to hate out which is what I want in a deck.

Having played a list that's similar, this list only runs 11 creatures outside tez and foundry and All of them minus the tks and smasher are excellent through a damnation. I've found the damnation to be absolutely essential. I don't have a ton of blockers so throwing away 1 guy for their board is good. Liliana is more a pet card. In my other deck I reshaper into her all the time which just feels so good. I could see removing her but she's always been so good. Keeping decks off their game plan while my guys are so much bigger is great plus she's disruption. As I said she can probably be replaced but so much utility. My play style has always been more disruption over draw so I'll have to test out more thirst. 3 mana draw spells just seem so risky especially when I'm cutting removal. I'm more of a having more steak and less potatoes kind of guy. I'll have to test you could be very right

Building something radical here. It's been a month or so since I have played tezz. I was on Sultai tezz with some good success. I moved to a BG semi-eldrazi list and loved it. So, I want to combine some things and see if I can play tez and eldrazi since they share some elements. I'm going to be playing this list on Friday if I can get the signets by then.

    things I like:
    - huge, hard to deal with dudes.
    - matter reshaper can hit a lot of targets in the deck.
    - Mana base is pretty solid.
    - Decent amount of disruption.
    - Not truly reliant on artifacts so hate is much weaker. Especially when your hand is on the fast eldrazi plan and they are on the destroy artifact plan.

    potential problems:
    - I can see some slow draws happening.
    - Little removal main.
    - UB has a hard time dealing with non creature permanents. I could see a very timely stony silence with some hands just completely demolishing, but I guess that's tezz decks in general.
    - Aggro could potentially be a problem unless you can land an early eldrazi temple.

I've played a lot of Hangarback with tez in modern and he's nothing like baleful strix. It's slow and usually extremely underwhelming.I started with 4 and shortly kept having to cut him back to 1. I think 1-2 is very serviceable in a lockdown shell but I warn you the card is usually mediocre. I would trade 10 billion walkers for a single strix Smile

That being said, I would expect a resurgence in uw/ub control. Maybe walker could be pretty excellent in that kind of meta but it doesn't compare well to an opposing foundry.

I like a lot of your suggestions though

Green is not bad. It gives you abrupt decay and maelstrom pulse

I hear so much about Eldrazi this Eldrazi that but you knew who has a habit of making people go mad? Nicol Bolas. What happened to him? He hates ugin and what a perfect way for him to get Back at Sorin who went to Tarkir. What a good way to get yet another walker to bend to his will.

@ktkenshinx I appreciate your comment. I do have to say though, what about it isn't a GB rock deck? It isn't a junk deck I'll admit but the primer does say GB Rock and it does everything the archetype wants to do. It only plays 12 eldrazi, is that enough to change it's archtype? If you think so I respect that and won't bring it up again. It plays 10 disruption, 4 Liliana, 4 goyf, 7 removal (after removing mind stone) plus a few other utility cards. Matter reshaper and thought-knot are strong enough cards to be played without using cards like Eye of Ugin and should be considered in the archetype. If you have ever flipped Liliana, goyf, finks, another reshaper or SB cards with reshaper it feels pretty insane.

Not sure where to post this as it doesn't technically fit in any of the other primers...It's definitely more Rock than eldrazi. Rockdrazi? Anyways, I went 3-1 with this list at my FNM with about 20ish people. The meta was SUPER diverse, no more than 2 of any deck. Super strange.

r1: UWR sundial of the infinite with kiki combo
g1: Wasn't sure what I was playing against. Turns out was sundial and exiled all my guys forever and beat me down with 3 power guys. Didn't draw much removal and lost pretty easy.
g2: drop an early Torpor orb, turns out card is insane vs the deck. He drops restoration angel. I basically get beat down by that as I never draw removal for it. Funny though, he was at 2 with lethal on board and no guys in play as he had to block. His one and only out is the second bolt he had (boarded 2 out) played one before to kill Lili. Wouldn't you know it in about 1/40 chance, he draws it and kills me. Magic is cruel sometimes.
    0-1

    r2: UWR Kiki combo
g1: This is pretty easy as I have a lot of disruption and key removal. I only saw Kiki at the very end as he had to play a blocker or die. Glad to get the info.
g2: keep sweet 1 lander on a mull to 6. Scry top card to bottom and never see another land for 6 turns. Easy loss. If only 1 more land I would have been fine.
g3: he plays Leyline of Sanctity which basically did absolutely nothing. I didn't draw any disruption that game except for a thought-knot. I beat down with 6/7 goyfs for the win. He basically dumped much of his hand to kill reality smasher so yay for me. He did have 2 turns to draw a Kiki to combo with resto but thankfully RNG gods were kind to me this match.
    1-1

    r3: Soul sisters
g1: Lot so disruption and removal allow me to eventually take the win. his guys all suck and mine are huge. feels good
g2: He gets early Martyr of Sands and and serra ascendant. Dude is immediately huge and I can't stop it until way too late. Torpor orb was ridiculous but only did so much as I was already so low from the serra guy. I got to live the dream and matter reshaper into liliana after blocks but he immediately plays leyline of sanctity after the attack preventing me from using lili to kill his guy and win. doh
g3: More removal and timely wraths keep him at bay. We go to time and on turn 3 he attacks stupidly into my board. Definite mistake and he knew it but I wouldn't let him take it back. I then untap, decay his blocker and win.
    2-1

    r4: affinity
g1: he mulls to 5 but plays mox, glimmer, memnite, springleaf drum. I play land and thoughtseize his Master of Etherium. From here I play smasher, smasher and win no problem
g2: I kill a couple guys and go to 8 like on turn 3. I rip a super perfect llanowar wastes and cast damnation going to 6. All he has are inkmoth nexi thankgod and I manage to stabalize and kill him with 2 7/8 goyfs. Those things are HUGE!

    Thoughts:
Played mindstone and wished it was more doom blades all night. Oath of nissa was good but not busted. Couple of times vs sundial I scryed away key removal. Other times though I got to cantrip it and pump goyf as well as cast liliana where I otherwise could not. I like the card. Matter reshaper in this deck is awesome. Hitting goyf, oath or liliana feels soooo good. I have been playing BGx for many years and I love this deck. Tons of removal and disruption and super huge, hard to stop beats. The lands are certainly painful though but no other way to smooth it out I don't think. I didn't have too many problems casting my spells though.
