3/1 vanilla for 1W is a typical common creature. This trades always being 3/1 for having the option to gain indestructible. The price of gaining indestructible is fairly high here, though.

Oh wow. That's really nice, and an actual payoff for all that dumb lifelink in your aggro decks, when you're not racing other aggro decks. Having your 3/1s survive wraths is ridiculous. This thing reminds me of Putrid Leech but seems a bit better since it never dies.

This would be awesome in a soldier tribal deck actually.

This is pretty great against control in an aggro deck where 1 toughness usually doesn't matter but indestructable at the cost of 4 life is a great deal.

On the other hand it absolutely stinks in aggro or midrange matchups, terrible blocker and the 4 life is too much if there is any potential for a race.

Good sideboard card or maybe a maindeck card in the right metagame.

Combo with Cartouche of Ambition. 4/2 Lifelink on the attack. If they block it, pay the life you're going to gain to keep it alive and swinging and kill the blocker. If they try to 2-for-1 you with a kill spell, pay the 4 to keep him.

I like this idea enough to try it.
