MTG Salvation

This is a really fascinating, original design that does some things never done before, and normally that would make this easily one of the mythic rares in the set, but in this set the bar is a bit higher for that.

As a limited card it would be a good mythic. I think its a bomb in draft. It's terrible for constructed, but so is mox tantalite, so who knows how they even chose.

"You can't spend mana to cast this spell." Hoo boy. That's a line of text I've wanted to see on a card for a long time.

Can it exile itself for Delve?

Nope. By the time you could pay for Delve, Hogaak will already be on the stack and not in the graveyard.

This opens up some interesting Paradox Engine lines in Golgari. With enough creatures in play alongside Paradox Engine and a sac outlet, you can create a lot of different infinite combo lines. Very cool design!

Love this in dredge

Honestly a respectable commander. Its easy AF for black/green to fill the graveyard, or to spam out creatures, or a combination of both.

You can't pay the mana cost with mana at all, including taxes. You need dredge or convoke (and for the colored mana, convoke alone).

But the only time you have to pay the Commander tax is if it's exiled, since you can just get it out of the graveyard instead.

903.8. A player may cast a commander they own from the command zone. A commander cast from the command zone costs an additional 2 for each previous time the player casting it has cast it from the command zone that game. This additional cost is informally known as the “commander tax.”

The way I read that is that adds to the cost, so you have to / get to convoke or delve it out. Though you'd only have to pay the tax on exile because its graveyard castable.

Plus you'll almost never have to pay the commander tax. Really excited to see what people come up with.

I have to say, wizards really nailed the design on a lot of cards here. I really hope they include necessary reprints, mainly scrying sheets and mouth of ronom, and they really need life from the loam after reprinting 1mana cycling lands.

I mean, we know we won't get it in the set. They already stated that the set would be 254 new to modern cards (whether they are brought in from pre-8th or are completely new to magic).

I can agree though that Modern Horizons gives me a hankering for another Modern Masters set.

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but how is it possible to cast this card at all? Delve and convoke can't pay for the coloured mana cost, and you can't pay mana for that... so how? You can maybe do it with like Mycosynth Lattice and the new card Morophon, but this is way too narrow for simply casting an 8/8

Convoke can pay the colored mana cost, so long as the creatures are of the right color. For hybrid mana, convoke means the creatures need to be black or green.

That's why dragon fodder saw play over raise the alarm in rw token decks with stoke the flames.

Oh, wow, Convoke has always been like that?? I have always thought it was just for generic mana

Convoke can actually get the colored mana (it specifies it in the text for the keyword )

Hopefully someone who plays legacy can answer this for my pea-sized brain but wouldn't this work really well for manaless dredge in legacy?
