This seems playable in eternal formats where there are free spells everywhere. Not sure if it is basically competing with Delver, though.

Merits testing in Standard Drakes and Counterburn. This may even be more effective than Crackling Drake in control matchups as it can swoop in before their countermagic is online. You're also able to apply more pressure on those annoying Nexus/Turbofog decks, forcing them to dig for their combo faster and more recklessly, opening opportunities for tempo gains that wouldn't normally be available to the Izzet player. The card is also great in a mono-blue tempo variant I've been tinkering with for the post-Allegiance Standard, although the archetype may never be Tier 1.
