A very fun first clan event. Thanks to Promatim for organizing. You can see my draftcap and summary here.
You're welcome!
One thing that has always bugged me in the past about modo was that (normally) it's half a drafting experience. You go in with strangers, do your best, somebody wins, and then it's all over.
When you draft with people you know, you get more value out of the experience. Both from a social angle and from a magic angle.
For instance, when I draft at a store, I know who is next to me. After the matches, I can tell if I read their signals right, and if I was in the right color. That is usually very hard to do on MODO.
Today, though, I was able to tell from Cardoc's draftcap that I was passing to him. I tried to cut red and blue pretty aggressively, but did it work? Well, he ended up in green and white. Part of that was luck, with him opening gigantiform, but it made me feel a lot better about reading and sending signals.
I really enjoyed doing this, and I hope we can do another one with WWK.
Also, if anyone else wants to organize one of these, it by no means has to go through me. I don't think I'll be drafting next weekend, but don't let that stop you guys from putting something together, if you're just dying to get your hands on some WWK.

I'll be sad if people don't start calling The Chain Veil "Fleetwood Mac."
LSV 16-0'ed the swiss portion of PT San Diego. Absolutely NUTS. Having 16-0 streaks in like Daily Events on Modo and stuff is pretty nice, but on the Pro Tour? I'm stunned.
Looks like Nassif may get in with a win. I hope so, rooting for the rematch final!
Looks like I was exactly across the table from you. Your draft experience seems to have been the exact opposite of mine - clear signals right from the first picks. Next time, can I sit next to Promatim?
I was amused to notice you could see the underdrafting of Black even from your seat! I didn't get the same experience in reverse - your P5/P6 Nissa's Chosen weren't apparent from four seats away.
And I see that you're the player who could have had my Windborne Charge. Very glad you didn't take it, or I'd never have made the finals at all!

Sadly he didn't make T8.
Still, I'm a big LSV fan. I hope he manages the undefeated record!

I saw that and was insanely impressed. Nobody goes undefeated at the Limited PT and to be 16-0 through the Swiss, talk about setting yourself up for an intense Top 8.
In local draft news, I saw all the draftcaps, and I can tell that missed out on quite the draft. Congratulations to Cardoc on his victory and I hope I'll be able to get in on the next one.
It's not a Limited PT - you're a little out of date!
It's a modern format PTQ: Standard/Draft/Standard. Not that LSV's achievement so far (update: just 3-0'ed the Quarters) is anything less than absurdly impressive anyway.

Whoops. My mind was thinking about the Qualifiers for San Diego, which were sealed then draft. Even though he had to play constructed, standard no less, it's still an impressive feat. Go LSV!
Noooooooooo lsv
He lost in the Semis to a Jund deck (as did Craig Wescoe, whos roguish White-Weenie deck also lost to jund).
Hooray for a super-exciting jund mirror in the finals
I know that the jund players must be very skilled to make it to the finals, but still, it's just very bothersome to know that the most boring deck in the format makes it to the finals past a bunch of new, interesting concoctions like Open the Vaults, new Naya, and rogue white weenie.
In other news, lots of crazy powerful mono-colored decks in the limited portion, and a 3 (almost 4) - hedron crab deck?? Awesome.
i'm curious as to that myself. i've drafted allies many times myself, and i know their power in limited, and i've just been waiting for someone to tap into that for constructed.

Hey, I just saw Promatim's draftcap from your latest (and first ever) clan draft, and I'd be interested in joining in something like that. I guess I might as well ask to join the clan while I'm at it
I know that the jund players must be very skilled to make it to the finals, but still, it's just very bothersome to know that the most boring deck in the format makes it to the finals past a bunch of new, interesting concoctions
If you look at LSV's last match, he lost his three games to mana screw, colour screw and a double mulligan respectively. Any good deck with a good pilot opposite him was going to win when that happened. That it was Jund is just statistics - it was the most played deck.
Besides, it's Constructed. There's a reason Limited's better!
Pat Chapin drafted a deck with three in and he saw a fourth during that draft (chances of which are pretty remote) but didn't take it because at the time he didn't know he'd have three!
(Match against Nassif is here for anyone who didn't see it.)
I'd be interested in joining in something like that.
Hurrah! Hopefully we can reach eight players next time!

Yes, one of the adventures of Swiss queues is that you never quite know how accurate the signaling is going to be. After I saw that Hexmage and Crypt Ripper wheel I seriously thought about dipping into black, but I was happy with where I was at and decided against it.
Later that day I took my winnings from the first draft (sold the Scalding Tarn for 3 tix) and entered another swiss queue where I suffered the most embarassing loss of my Magic career! Here is a partial list of some of the cards my opponent ran main deck:
On top of his woeful deck, he was also an awful player. Made many many mistakes but perhaps my favorite was when he popped his Soul Stair Expedition targeting....nothing! I lost to him 2-1 after suffering some serious mana flood in games 2 and 3. It was such a bad beat that I had to laugh through it all.
It's more that people always overvalue removal. Really, if they make a card ":symb:: Sorcery: As an additional cost, get F'd in the A. Destroy target creature." people will say "removal is removal" and first-pick it.
Made many many mistakes but perhaps my favorite was when he popped his Soul Stair Expedition targeting....nothing!
Wow, I think that makes the all time highscore chart!
I haven't seen play that bad since my opponent in an Onslaught League (yeah, Leagues, it was that long ago) blocked my Stonewood Invoker, unmorphed his blocking Wingbeat Warrior and gave my Elf first strike.

@Cardoc - Ow... that sucks. I spent all weekend playing 2HG at a friend's house. It was pretty fun, except my partner was new to the game, and would keep any hand. One game, he goes no mull, and I look at his hand.
wtf I just lost in round 1 of an 8-4 with Flameblast, 2 Terminates, 3 other pieces of removal, 2 Bombers, Scarland, Rockslide, Stinger, Rebirth, and a plethora of other quality BR cards to a deck running...
I never see the friggin Flameblast or the Terminates, and I'm able to draw a forest each opening hand even tho I'm running 3, and each opening hand is missing either the Mountain/Swamp or Spire. (7/6/1)
On the topic of bad beats, the other day my solid BR aggro deck lost to this chain of events (I was on the draw)
T1 - Forest
T1 - Swamp, Adventuring Gear
T2 - Swamp, Heart Expedition
T2 - Mountain, Geopede
T3 - Forest, Harrow, fetching 2 forests
T3 - Equip, Swamp, surrakar marauder, swing for 5
T4 - Swamp
T4 - Mountain, swing for 7, another marauder
T5 - Forest, Marsh Casualties
T5 - Highland Berserker, equip
T6 - Baloth Woodcrasher
T6 - Swamp, attack, he blocks and pumps with primal bellow, Nighthawk (which is nigh on unkillable with a BG deck in ZZZ)
T7 - He harrows for 2 islands, into the roil kicked on my nighthawk, cracks his expedition and swings for lethal.

That doesn't look like a bad beat. Looks like you lost to a pretty good deck that was piloted well. He slow rolled you into his Marsh Casualties and set up a monster turn for his Woodcrasher. You didn't lose to Needlebite Trap one game and Blood Tribute the next like I did.
It's more that people always overvalue removal. Really, if they make a card ":symb:: Sorcery: As an additional cost, get F'd in the A. Destroy target creature." people will say "removal is removal" and first-pick it.
The point i was trying to make is that he played cards with double costs in 3 different colours. I also forgot to mention that in the next game he played sphinx of jwar isle.
That's really not a problem. He's base Black/Green with a heavy Blue splash supported by his fixing - both Into the Roil and Sphinx being fine late.
See, for example, the deck I most recently drafted.

Hm, OK. Something about playing casualties, woodcrasher, and sphinx in the same deck just seemed too greedy. I don't think I've ever splashed for a double-cost card in my life.

Well, it depends more on the ratio than the cost. For example, a 2U card requires you to play maybe 5-6 blue sources, and a 4UU card requires you to play the same.
4NN's are actually pretty doable, because you only need a third of your mana to be that color, assuming you run well. It's the 2NN's that are only good on turn 4 that can't be splashed.
So if I get a refuge and a harrow or KHE, I'll gladly throw in three islands to try and run my Sphinx of Jwar Isle.

Sphinx is so good I've splashed it RG with 3 island and no fixing.
A good beat? Sphinx, 3/3 survivalist and 2/2 survivalist with 6 lands out 1 is a forest. Rip forest off the top, slam down monument, kick vines swing for 17, his life total. I was at 2 and gonna die next turn to tapped skyfisher.

ouch.
My biggest beat would be a field full of allies, 8 mana (4 swamp 4 plains), and no cards in hand. I cannot swing for lethal and his tapped fliers can next turn. I topdeck...Marshal's Anthem! I kick it twice, returning two allies to play, and swing for exactly lethal.
