If it was a "phantom," I'd agree with you, but it only used its +1/+1 counters to keep track of Wolves (and get bigger, of course). To me it was a dude that made more dudes who made the first dude bigger when they died.

I was thinking Surveilling Sprite, and we all know how much that shook up the format. Also, paying just to exile it seems silly without Trivaz, so why not add an effect to make this a red card too?

I agree, especially when there is no more damage on the stack which would just make this guy sillly good.
One thing with Surveilling Sprite though: you couldn't bounce it or phase it out to draw cards more than once like you could with Seer :). My old Merfolk deck I played with as a 12-year old noob abused the living hell out of Vodalian Illusionist to make sure combat was always in my favor, to protect my creatures, and to phase out Thalakos Seer for a steady stream of cards.
Forget that, I feel dumb. Phasing doesn't trigger ETB or LTB abilities. I guess my store owner was right. No one seemed to know how the **** phasing exactly worked where I was. At least I can say it was intuitive to me back then.

I got to tell someone last week that his Ankh of Mishra /Shimmer deck did nothing. It was funny because he had just killed some new player with it and thought it was the best thing ever.
We should definitely have some kind of Weird, and it would be very nice if it exiled itself to combo with Trivaz. My idea:
Vaporexis UR
Creature - Weird
When Vaporexis leaves play, draw a card. 2: Exile Vaporexis.
1/2
Problem: Trivaz has no interaction with exiled cards that are not instants or sorceries, hence my suggestion for the Weird to imprint stuff. Your ideas would be cool if they worked, though.
When ~ enters the battlefield, target instant or sorcery card in your graveyard gains flashback until end of turn. The flashback cost is equal to its mana cost. (Mana cost includes color.) 2/1
One problem with this version is that it's quite bad on turn two, though its simplicity is nice.
<Recoup Weird 2>UR
Creature - Weird [R]
When ~ enters the battlefield, search your library for an instant or sorcery card and put it into your graveyard. Then shuffle your library.
Sacrifice ~: Target instant or sorcery card in your graveyard gains flashback until end of turn. The flashback cost is equal to its mana cost. (Mana cost includes color.) 1/1
This version is a lot better, but it might even be too strong. Regardless, finding appropriate art is going to be exceedingly difficult.

I like the elegance of the card but it doesn't really do anything on its own. Also:
Quote from Round 2 Criteria »
Group 1:
Your second challenge is:
Design a creature card. As stated, this is your avatar's signature spell. Group 1 bonus criteria: - Has an even converted mana cost.
- Has an ability that triggers upon entering or leaving the battlefield. (one or the other, doesn't have to be both)
An easy fix would be to give it "When ~ leaves the battlefield, put all exiled instant and sorcery cards into their owners' graveyards."

Maybe give it: "Sacrifice Dreamcore Weird: You may play target instant or sorcery exiled by Dreamcore Weird without paying it's mana cost,"
But I think that would up its mana cost.
what if we made the creature have flash, in turn when being played it would exile any number of spells. Of course you then could play said spells with trivas. though you would have to increase the casting cost to make it more balance.
Well I has designed a card before that fits the criteria of this contest, I am going to repost it.

What SC said, along with the fact that it's not a very interesting card. Sorry.
The first ability is absurd. Ertai's Meddling...everything? For...no mana? Wait...what? The second ability feels totally out of place since it's only there for Trivaz and isn't even guaranteed to hit an instant or sorcery.

What started out as a very elegant, if somewhat unexciting, card is now a monstrosity.
Another Weird idea (pun intended):
<Weirdgoyf>UR
Creature - Weird [R]
As <Weirdgoyf> enters the battlefield, exile all instant and sorcery cards from your graveyard.
<Weirdgoyf>'s power and toughness are equal to the number of face-up exiled instant and sorcery cards you own.
When <Weirdgoyf> leaves the battlefield, return all cards exiled with it to their owners' graveyards. */*
I was thinking that we might want to have this card be synergistic with both Trivaz and Gelectrode, but that may prove rather difficult. I rather like this next idea:
Parahydrox2(U/R)(U/R)
Creature - Weird [R]
When Parahydrox enters the battlefield, exile any number of target instant or sorcery cards from target player's graveyard.
Whenever a player casts an instant or sorcery spell that shares a converted mana cost with an exiled card, you may cast the exiled card without paying its mana cost. 3/3
i know it's a side conversation. But how did we lose a point on the scoring. has anyone inquired? I hate to shoot a PM when it's already been answered.
I think we lost a post because I submitted an updated version of our render after the deadline, though I have no idea if anyone who was going to penalize us for an improper artist credit gave us a point after seeing the second render. I don't want to be "those guys" who complain about scoring considering we're still in second place, so I'm not going to mention it unless that one point somehow costs us at the very end.
I don't want to sound like a ****, but I think some of you guys should try reading MaRo's articles when it comes to card design. Some of these ideas make want want to rip the hair out of my head. A 2 mana one card complete lockdown? I'm sorry joboman, but you need to read how Suspend actually works. When the last time counter is removed from a suspended spell, it gets cast again; just without paying its mana cost. I'm pretty sure you know what that means: the suspended spell just gets exiled again. In other words, you might as well just reword your card to say "Players can't cast spells."
That being said, I really love Parahydrox too. It's one of those cards that punishes low curve decks in a completely unorthodox manner, without being too complex. I also really enjoy the idea of targeting your graveyard and removing a "straight" in CMCs to maximize the ability to keep casting those exiled spells.
If you look closely at the text box of a card in MSE, you'll notice a box made of dashed lines about where you would expect a watermark to appear. Click either top or bottom colored border of the text box that lies within the dashed box and you should see a menu that allows you to select a watermark. There should also be a help message at the lower left that indicates that you are holding your mouse at the right spot.
I liked it.
Fresh meat! I mean...welcome to the Izzet! :evillol::uhh:^_^;
We only submit one card per round.
Please post them so that we may discuss them publicly. I think SC and I will be the ones who go over everyone's opinions and decide what our final rankings will be, since as far as I'm aware we have the most experience with card creation.
We usually only do card creation for Clan Contests, and the last time we had such a CC was two years ago.

Development time. I'm worried that it might be a little overpowered, since in a deck full of Lightning Bolts, Burst Lightnings, Punishing Fires, Searing Blazes, Resounding Thunders, and Volcanic Fallouts you can easily win the game on turn five...but then again there may not be anything wrong with that considering how vulnerable that kind of deck would be to any kind of life gain, which sounds silly until you realize that decks sideboarding Sunspring Expedition and Rest for the Weary would wreck this strategy.
I can't think of an elegant fix right now, but I'll chew on some ideas for a while.
EDIT: Honestly, that kind of "easy" win might not be that likely to occur. I'm going to do some FFL-type testing with Clem.

Considering cards casted have to exactly match the CMC of an exiled card, as well as having to be an instant or sorcery to trigger it (so everything else does jack diddly), I think you won't be getting such hypothetical turn 5 wins. It's also ameloriated by the fact that the cards to exile *must* be instants/sorceries and they have to be out of one grave instead of just picking and choosing stuff from both graves.

Yeah, after testing I've determined that it's pretty safe. Kind of like Pyromancer Ascension, it requires some lucky draws to be any good.
Clem suggested that the second ability be changed to:

I guess he didn't like it when his spells triggered my burn.

Not just that, but there are major problems with the card:
- Hard counters should almost always cost double blue, especially ones that circumvent "can't be countered" cards.
- The exiled cards don't need the mana cost to be casted. Can you say casting something silly like a Cruel Ultimatum for nothing?
I think you could up the power level on this by swapping the P/T and doing something like giving this guy haste. It reminds me of Thalakos Seer.
