So I came in 39th at GP: DC, having the worst tiebreakers of everyone in the 13-4 bracket. I think I've mostly recovered from the weekend, and now I need to go find a job. If you want to know what deck I played, refer to this article, as I played almost the exact same list.
An inquiry, if you don't mind: What do the Izzet think of life and death? Is taking one's own life ever acceptable? Why or why not? Don't feel obligated to answer, I don't mean to offend anyone, but be aware that I will probably aim to extend the dialogue exhaustively if you do reply.
1. Just clan contest stuff and a new thread...
2. Life is awesome, death seems horribly boring. I know there's a mystery to it and that's why people fear it; I can't comprehend the possibility of my consciousness just ending when I die, but that seems to be what's most likely to happen. Taking one's own life is horribly offensive to every person one has ever developed a relationship with, and serves no positive goal in my opinion.
Greetings, fellow mages.
I was wondering if I could join the Izzet clan.
My favorite color is red. Closely followed by blue, and I love the color combo, and considering the Izzet is one of my favorite guilds, I have decided that I would like, if you will accept me after being a test subject, to become a member of the clan.
Welcome to our newest test subject!

Death is a natural part of life, inevitable, and inescapable. While I love living, and not being dead, I would absolutely hate to be immortal and never die. I truly think I would go crazy if I had to live past my lifespan. And on the subject of taking one's life, I agree with Rocker, it is an affront to anyone who has ever gotten close with you, the closest I could think of is just mailing them a picture of you giving them the middle finger and never communicating with them again.
My friend has developed and employs a similar RDW w/ Kiln Fiend deck with a splash of blue for all of Izzet's finest (Gelectrode, Electrolyze, and Wee Dragonauts).

@Ravus: Here's how I and my religion view death. The faith of Judaism does not belive in a "heaven" or a "hell". To some this is very depressing, but they don't "get it". Judaism states that because we do not "go" anywhere after we die, we have to do all we can to make this life the best it can be. Essentiall earth is our heaven.
One taking one's own life would be just pure stupidity, after all why should one remove themselves from heaven?

I couldn't help but smile as I began reading that "death seems horribly boring"... but nevermind that... back to the important bit...
You say taking one's own life is harmful (and disrespectful) of those you might know and/or love. I agree, if given the case of what I would call "emo kids", as in, those people who would end their life out of depression (which is what is generally inferred upon the subject of "suicide"). I see that as quitting because things are difficult, and I have never been a fan of quitters (ask Clem or Psi, they'll tell you ^_^;). However, going back to that satanic mindset (because afterall, it's what I know best :V), what if life ceases to be be... what was your word for it... "awesome"? What if life is no longer what Anton LaVey called the "Great Indulgence"? Such as, but not limited to, remaining living in a vegetative state. In my opinion, at the very least, that reduces life to less than what death (the "Great Abstinence") would entail, and for me at least, it would be torturous. It was, in fact, after I had my colon removed... but I was assured to get better, that I would return to that "Great Indulgence" that I so loved to... well, indulge. What if you wouldn't, couldn't return to "life as usual", and were "forever" (rather, for as long as they can keep your system functioning) doomed to a fate worse than death? Would suicide still be that "mortal sin", that horrible disrespect to your loved ones? If it was, what would you think of said loved ones? Wouldn't keeping you "alive" when you're as good as dead be greedy and disrespectful to you?
...Needless to say, I spend a lot of my time pondering otherwise-morbid subjects (and have much more to say, if anyone is, for whatever reason, interested).

First, are you particularly interested in discussing such philosophical topics regularly, or not? I am obsessive about having up-to-date information about all the various religions' views, and the only other Jews I have to communicate with aren't exactly very... Jew-ish.
But that mentality is quite similar to my own. But then, for that, I become curious (to the point of distracting me from the rest of the ☺☺☺☺ I was going to post here, apparently) why, then, Judaism disallows certain (non-Kosher) foods and indulgences?

Of course, the concept of one person being here one moment, then not another is a bit unsettling, however you look at death. Dramatic changes in environment are often like that.
Edit: ☺☺☺☺, this post is laden with much more religion than I would've liked...
I have one quick question, before I go into my normal post, I assume that I should put test-subject of the Izzet in my sig or something like that, correct?
Onto normal post. Life and death is an interesting thing, and some thing that has been greatly discussed in my... I don't know really what to call it. We talk about life, death, time travel, and take college level vocab tests... they call it IDEA, which is an acronym, but I don't know what for.
We have come to the consensus, that life is great, and that one shouldn't take their own life, as there is so much to do. On death we have very mixed feelings...
Some say it's nothing and will accept it in time.
Some say that there is a heaven and they try their best to go there.
Others say there is nothing and once life is gone, it's gone.
And the whole reincarnation thing has been discussed many times over.
Anyway, my Magic related post.

I have never been a fan of quitters (ask Clem or Psi, they'll tell you ^_^;).
Ravus is telling you all the truth. As such, I am not a fan of them either (even though I have quit the Izzet twice before, I've never stopped visiting the clan, even if I was only lurking). As such I'd like to request membership...again...with the Izzet. This time I shall not be leaving anymore and I will be a High Mage again...It's only a matter of time.
* Zazirik goes and get's in the Izzet cage named "Psi".
Still need any available criticism on the Doomsday Device deck (posted above). Anything's appreciated.
What "format" is the deck for? Just casual play? I am pretty bad at making recommendations for casual decks because the concept of trying to win sometimes but not all the time (and/or staying within a budget) is hard to give advice for.

You know, you do have a point. Boomerang is due for a come back after being sidelined post-10th. No one really likes Disperse too much anyway lol, and it would be nice to have some sort of additional foil to Spreading Seas/Contaminated Ground.
Also, for the clan contest, it looks as if Mulldrifter is going to be a slam dunk from looking at the last bunch of posts. I'll more than likely put our vote up tomorrow some time unless anybody has some sort of reasoning behind someone else.
To be fair, if your opponent is playing with cards from Guildpact, I don't think you need to restrict yourself to standard...
true, but I never know what any of my friends plays before or after I choose my deck. We just grab random ones, shuffle, roll, and play.
Just some casual decks are stronger than others. His Solitary Confinement deck is built, not to win, but to not lose.

I noticed Disperse after M10 hit and I remember being "really? I have to play with this? And a Lorwyn card too!" (Not tooo much a fan of the set).
Just seems I'm going with the flow of the M10 blue 'depowering.' At least Bolt and Tendrils were printed again!
Ravus, stop talking about suicide. Didn't you learn anything from your last suspension?
If I get suspended again (or even banned) for discussing such topics, I'll be particularly disgusted with the powers-that-be here. I can't say that I'm all that fond of them for the banner-thing, either, but I didn't get suspended for that. I got suspended for refusing to do as I was told.

I'm not a member of the Church of Satan, and don't really care whether or not you are or would be. I was just making a casual observation that your satanic wording "tickled my fancy". Though looking back, I do see how it could've been construed differently.

Oooh boy religious stuff. I really try to keep myself out of that sort of thing for a multitude of reasons that I really don't want to explain.
Yeah, for some reason people don't like to discuss such things, which makes it difficult for me to discuss philosophy, given that it so easily ties into religious beliefs.
I wanna see both Boomerang and Unsummon for some bouncing craziness in Limited.
Seems quite reasonable that M11 Limited will be similar to M10 Limited, and I honestly just cannot wait any longer to go to GP Portland without having to cough up roughly two months rent for a viable Standard deck (format will be M11 Limited) that is not RDW or Jund and being able to meet up with a bunch of people there and play some EDH for sure.
Religion makes me giggle.
Well, to be more specific, people who take it too seriously make me giggle.
I'm actually an ordained reverend, which was done just to prove a point
And yes, BRING BACK BOOMERANG. My all-time favorite mono-blue spell in the game.
-Combine it with Kaho and bounce everybody's lands.
-Bounce your own Planeswalker and cast it again to re-use it's ability.
-Bounce CiTP creatures (obviously).
I used to boomerang Coiling Oracle, but obviously Call to Heel does that job better.
EDIT: Interesting tidbit, a person ordained in a religion has the right to found a new religion
EDIT 2: Anyone have any of these they can donate or trade to me for my Legendary creature collection? I'd appreciate it

Welcome! Don't mind me, I'm just going to conduct bizarre experiments on you while you're asleep. Since you're asleep, you won't even know I did anything to you! Just don't try to eat anything for a couple hours in the morning. Heh. ^_^:uhh::evillol:
Ravus, stop talking about suicide. Didn't you learn anything from your last suspension?
bu, bu, bu, but! that just the logical answer!
I guess...Smother or Doom Blade would do the trick...or Boomerang if WotC would reprint it in M11. They took out my 2 favorite bounces! that and Evac!

To be fair, if your opponent is playing with cards from Guildpact, I don't think you need to restrict yourself to standard...
@Ravus: I'm sure you would be pleased if I were to join to the Church of Satan, but I personally despise any form of organized religion, no matter how non-conformist it is.
Zaz: Welcome back! I have many secret motives that shall be served by your return...

I'll more than likely put our vote up tomorrow some time unless anybody has some sort of reasoning behind someone else.
true, but I never know what any of my friends plays before or after I choose my deck.

Ooh, you too?
Yeah, for some reason people don't like to discuss such things, which makes it difficult for me to discuss philosophy, given that it so easily ties into religious beliefs.
...which reminds me... welcome all new guys, have some cookies:
Thanks :).
I don't think either of you are lying which scares me worse.
And I quite enjoyed M10 Limited myself, so if m11 Limited is similar, I'll like it too :).

If Boomerang was in standard
And if that certain counter that there were rumors about is coming back...
Rise of blue in standard!
I am going to assume that I am to post a link to this thread in my sig, so I will. If not, please tell me not to.

What counter spell is that? I don't really keep up with the mill and rumors too much.
It's not required but it would be nice if you did :).
