I've been away to long, I picked up and read through some of the thread, looks like there is still a decent amount of new members standing to attention, also arsenalfan snuck into my locked laboratory and stole my sig concept.......grrrrrr....oh well.
so a little update in my life. I am seperated from the wife living at my dads. been gone for 3 weeks and honestly I feel a divorce is immient. I'v also was diagnosed with graves disease. My thyroid was just recently nuked with radioactive iodine so I can begin to feel less like ☺☺☺☺ and generally better. On a better note with the recent events of martial status I now can play magic every friday. the last couple weeks I've gone 3rd, 5th, 1st with izzet cruel. though it looks more like grixis control with the inclusion of consuming vapors. I'm hanging in their though. I drop by more since my dads computer got a tune up and works better.
also. joboman I love the new avatar picture, rodney is one of my favorites and their are days I miss his humor.
laters guys i'll say hi later.
Great to see ya still there and around! I really wish the best as you get through this tumultuous part of your life. I honestly can't comprehend what it's like to go through both a terrible disease and marital issues at the same time.
Wow, I kinda feel cheated here. I mean come on, Liliana is a freaking planeswalker! There's now way in hell a non-planeswalker even has a chance against a PW. Unfair.
Unvote, Vote: Jhoira.
Wait you are voting against your own card? I must say sir, that I am here to personally applaud your ability to actually follow the rules of the contest and vote based on the criteria, as opposed to favoritism and outside factors. Major Kudos to you joboman.

M11 is looking to be a decent set imo. In my opinion Diminish is going to be a complete house in draft.
Player 1: I'll attack with Silvercoat Lion.
Player 2: Okay.... block with Garruk's Packleader.
Player 1: Play Diminish!
Player 2:
Your scenario is no different from the standard Giant Growth combat situation, and I'm pretty sure any decent player would see the obvious combat trick and take the two damage. What would be really funny would be something like Baneslayer Angel attacking into Cloud Elemental and getting Diminished.
Hang in there Clayton :(. We're all here for you! :).
Yeah, stay strong. You'll get through this rough patch.
I came in second at FNM with Jund because I scooped in the finals (we split prize) so I could GTFO.
R1 vs. Vampires: 2-1. I lost G1 due to keeping a two-land hand and not drawing the third for five turns. The others were the usual story of Jund's removal crushing Vampires. G3 I cascaded Bituminous Blast into Bloodbraid Elf into Lightning Bolt. He died.
R2 vs. Goblins: 2-0. She was playing a terribad list but somehow beat my friend's Four Color Control due to him getting awful draws.
R3 vs. Four Color Cascade: 2-1. This deck was pretty similar to one of my favorite decks from LOR-ARB Standard, except it had Wall of Omens and Knight of the Reliquary as utility creatures. G1 and G2 were really close, but G3 was a blowout because he got mana-flooded and I drew infinite gas with Sarkhan the Mad.
R4 vs. White Weenie: 2-0. This matchup is basically a joke after siding in Master of the Wild Hunt and Consuming Vapors.
R5 vs. WU Eldrazi Tap-Out: ID.
T8 R1 vs. White Weenie (again): 2-0. No chance.
T8 R2 vs. BR Vampires: 2-0. I have no idea how he made T8 because his list was pretty mediocre; he must have gotten really lucky pairings.
T8 R3 vs. Winner between Four Color Cascade and WU Eldrazi Tap-Out: Scoop and split prize. I have to work at 11am tomorrow so I needed to get some sleep.
Wait you are voting against your own card? I must say sir, that I am here to personally applaud your ability to actually follow the rules of the contest and vote based on the criteria, as opposed to favoritism and outside factors. Major Kudos to you joboman.
Thanks.
I've stopped playing FNM's recently. Partly because of me being busier, having more friends to hang out with and such, and standard just being un-fun. It looks like my magic career is going to be put on hold for a few years because of me moving and things like that, but don't worry I'll still be here :3
Jace's Ingenuity and Foresee coming back definitely makes me wanna play Blue in Standard...But Jace, the Mind Sculptor is so expensive :(.
My feelings exactly. Every deck that runs blue runs Jace 2.0. It's starting to get stupid and it is a lot worse than Baneslayer Angel. In my opinion they should reprint it, something to get the value down.
Anyway, I went 3-1 at my LGS FNM. It was draft night. I got in the top 4, and won 15$ store credit! I ran a R/G Eldrazi spawn deck, here is the list:
I really want Warp World to be in standard post rotation, but I think I'm taking a break from competetive-ness for a bit too. I've had the urge for casual all week and I have a bunch of crazy multiplayer decks itching to be build, so that's what I'll be doing for a while.

The main reason why I don't play standard is because of all the expensive cards, I was playing RDW for a while, but it got kinda stale after a while. I really want to play control now that it's finally good, but it's so expensive,
My feelings exactly. Every deck that runs blue runs Jace 2.0. It's starting to get stupid and it is a lot worse than Baneslayer Angel. In my opinion they should reprint it, something to get the value down.
I agree, but it does seem pretty unlikely that they'd reprint him, seeing as how he is hands-down better than any of the Lorwyn walkers, and it's fairly obvious that they're reprinting the Lor walkers.
I really want Warp World to be in standard post rotation, but I think I'm taking a break from competetive-ness for a bit too. I've had the urge for casual all week and I have a bunch of crazy multiplayer decks itching to be build, so that's what I'll be doing for a while.
I don't honestly think warp world will make the cut, it just doesn't seem like a core set card.
I actually don't like M11 that much. Yeah, they have some pretty awesome reprints but the thing that gets me is the flavour of the cards.
You see Jace's ingenuity? What are you going to do? Steal Jace's spell? Copy it? Or ask him for help? It doesn't feel right to call upon another walkers spell, to receive training from him anyways.
And to be able to summon chandra's servants? Do they both serve you AND chandra?
Function-wise, they're fine. BUT as a vorthos, while wizards usually make great sets with a great story, they've lost out on how they should present their product.
Nonsensical. Does anyone concur?

I tend to agree. I don't think Foresee is good enough for Constructed, but Jace's Ingenuity is extremely cool. Funny that it took 17 years to make a balanced Ancestral Recall.
My friend keeps trying to play various control decks at FNM without running Baneslayer Angel or Jace, the Mind Sculptor because they're out of his budget, with limited success.
I agree, but it does seem pretty unlikely that they'd reprint him, seeing as how he is hands-down better than any of the Lorwyn walkers, and it's fairly obvious that they're reprinting the Lor walkers.
Yup. The biggest draw of Jace Beleren currently is its ability to preempt Jace, the Mind Sculptor and make it a four-mana Maelstrom Pulse. It would be like decks playing a 1-cost legendary artifact with rules text "As ~ enters the battlefield, its name becomes the name of your choice." to hose Umezawa's Jitte. (Because Pithing Needle just isn't good enough.)
I really want Warp World to be in standard post rotation...
I don't honestly think warp world will make the cut, it just doesn't seem like a core set card.
I would have disagreed with you prior to this Arcana, as Warp World is a very popular casual/semi-competitive card, but seeing as how Howling Mine (one of the the most popular casual/semi-competitive cards ever) isn't getting a fresh coat of paint, you may have a point.
I actually don't like M11 that much. Yeah, they have some pretty awesome reprints but the thing that gets me is the flavour of the cards.

You're not thinking about it the right way. Most spells are learned, not instinctual. Someone has to have taught the caster the proper incantations and ways to focus one's thoughts and mana to produce a useful bit of magic. The new cycle of spells in M11 may be spells that were taught by the planeswalker in question or merely spells that are similar in structure and purpose and effectively the same as the kind that is used by said planeswalker.
As for the planeswalker's minions, they may be rather like the planeswalkers themselves: They're loyal to whoever summons them until they go to the graveyard, at which point they go on their way. That or there's the underlying assumption that someone who summons one of these creatures is already allied with the planeswalker, so the summoner has full access and use of the creatures as part of the alliance's combat efforts.
My playgroup thought that Howling Mine wasn't being reprinted is because there was going to be a funtional reprint, something without the tapped portion of the card...

It was the last time it was in Standard, and that Standard had a bunch of good draw spells :p. So it's very possible it could see play in this one too.
Besides, I rogue deck and would run it because I like it :p.

I hadn't thought of that, but I suppose that's possible.
I think that Forsee is fine draw spell. The rest of the sorcery draw, is either not as good, isn't blue, or isn't in standard. See Beyond is the only one on that list that could be better (although Ponder is good if it's being reprinted). None of the instant speed draw is as good (other than Momentous Fall, but that's green)

I agree with Psi, Foresee seems pretty good compared to what we've had to deal with, some decks will play it.
Lately i've found myself listening to Folk metal, it's pretty interesting. In my opinion, the only way to make metal better was to add flutes and bagpipes.
My playgroup thought that Howling Mine wasn't being reprinted is because there was going to be a funtional reprint, something without the tapped portion of the card...
Friends and I are thinking the same thing. Sad to see my playset just fade away like ***.
Beside Foresee and Preordain, aren't they printing "Jace's Ingenuity?"

You guys who didn't play Magic during Time Spiral really missed out on Foresee. It was a solid support card for auxiliary card draw after Think Twice and Careful Consideration. It's great to see it get another go after playing second fiddle to a color that had some of its best card draw back then in years.
My playgroup thought that Howling Mine wasn't being reprinted is because there was going to be a funtional reprint, something without the tapped portion of the card...
That seems unlikely, since that clause has little functional utility. What we may see is an enchantment with the ability in blue as opposed to an artifact.

It's a good card but it's no Jace, the Mind Sculptor. Players who can't afford to spend that much on the game will play Foresee, but at the same cost and speed of the best planeswalker printed, it's unlikely to make waves at the PT level.
Since [CMB] and us were the only two Clans to vote in this round of Survivor, do we both win 1st place?

M11 is setting up to be more awesome than m10 was and m10 was great.
Functional Kodama's Reach reprint? Condemn is back? Foresee is back? Not to mention the other awesome new stuff like Jace's Ingenuity...I love it :D.
