@MH: I wouldn't be too worried about it, honestly. FB wouldn't be mad.
Oh, I wasn't worried about him. Don't know him, and it looks like he'll never be back.
I was more worried about those of you vets that are still here and remember him fondly. I mean, I'd be upset if Azrael disappeared, then someone screwed up and had to re-do the Council Thread, forcing us to lose a thread made by him.
I keep trying to figure out your sig, but I feel like I am losing brain cells with each attempt. Maybe the trick is that you have to lose many of them to understand it?

It's a parody on the OFWGKTA mindset, how they usually talk and it's applied to cereal preferences.

In the same vein, I had met Asian Invasion while playing online Dominion. Not that he knew it was me, for I was under a different name. He was clearly sporting his name and avatar, however.
I had not idea Dominion was online. I got addicted to Ascension which is similiar to Dominion in that you deck build.
They have Ascension online?? I have an almost complete game. Missing a few promo's. Great way to kill some time with friends.
IPad is my friend.
In other words not online only threw Ipad or Iphone you can get a download of both sets, but they do not have the newest game yet (of course it barely just came out).

@P_B & Art: Having only played Ascension before, say, 8 hours ago, Dominion is awesome. Played with AsianI for a while today and got my butt handed to me while he did goofy things and still beat my skull in.
I don't like the randomness of Ascension's middle pile (although I don't have the promos or recent expansion, which I've heard are good), and I would like to get a group of us playing Dominion if we can make that a reality. We can all learn how to be inefficient together!
I still think my version of the PR in CIM was more fun (but less witty). I did get replaced, though, so I'm not really one to talk about anything.
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
I did it for a little bit for CCMIV, my clan wasn't giving much help so I used my QT for note taking, though I think day three I gave up because I was SK and had already obliterated the scum team so the only things I was writing down at that point was a journal.

What are everyone's thoughts on creating a quick topic for note taking? I haven't done it yet but I'm considering it pending opinions.
Since you're part of the Random Mafia 4 spectator group, you're witness to my note taking style.
I use a spreadsheet google doc to take notes while playing. I attempt to keep track claims, votes, and posting frequency through said google doc (and soon opinions, just realized a way I can implement it). Since I use multiple computers (and my phone) to keep up with games, it's nice to have it "in the cloud".
Here's a link to my notes from Flame Warriors. I stopped caring about my notes after Day 3, but it's still decent.
This also reminds me, I need to update my "Lynch Success Rate" spreadsheet and finish my "Scum Replacement Rate" spreadsheet (Same doc)

Evey game I've been in except for very recently has had an associated QT with notes.
They take different forms. If I replace in to a long game (WoW Mafia) you get a cloud of thoughts about each player.
If I'm town, I'm keeping posts with memorable posts noted and my own town/scum list. Then I either edit it or start to edit, cut the text, repaste into a new post and then update to keep a record of why I was thinking what at what point.
When I'm scum I keep notes that keep track of claims (to hunt power roles) and an order of town threats with a mind to who's suspecting me or a scumbuddy under suspicion.
It helps to have the notes be mobile. Sometimes I play when I'm not home.

You can do that, but it depends on the player's playstyle and the image they're trying to create.
The main reason I dont keep notes is because I cant read them over at work. I'm going to start doing all this now.

After a few games I have played, I have come to this conclusion about OOG:
Take everything at face value, in game. Don't use OOG reasoning or accept it from others. Judge others for their actions and what they say, not for their participation level.
I won't hound people for not participating as much as they should, because we all have lives. That isn't OOG reasoning though, just accepting it as part of the game. If they don't post a lot, but their posts also use terrible reasoning then it's okay to hound them.

One of the best posts I've read in a while XX. I fully agree, your performance shouldn't be based on how often you post but what you do post when you get the chance.
Yes, on the other hand you can't accept personal reasons for not giving any analysis or making bad decisions. At that point, it's up to the player in question to not act like he did.

I am as well, having been brought by RL mafia friends. I haven't played in ~6 months. Competitive lobby wasn't enjoyable at all.

*sigh*
The things I love about the hubby and the things that drive me to drink some how keep me from killing him those days.
people keep their notes to themselves? I though that was what the game thread was for.
Not with this group I dare not and certainly not with Big Brother handing out red cards will I ever share all my thoughts about everything int he game.

It's okay. Really we all have bad games. We all think we have things figured out and sometimes you swear with everything you read that a player is scum and in reality they were just a really, really bad player.

I had an idea the other day and I am finally remembering to post while I am online.
This goes along the idea of Mentors in Basic Games, but switching it around. Instead of having an experienced player Mentor a newb, how about we have a newb player "Shadow" an experienced player so that newb player could ask questions on why an experienced player would ask a question, why he thiought something was scummy/townie, etc...

So what do you guys think about the practice of putting your own name at the top of your T/S lists? I stopped doing that after near the beginning of Amnesia, I think, because it just seemed redundant to me. Obviously I'm the most town to myself, regardless of alignment.
I've also seem people put themselves below others on their T/S lists. Thoughts on this?

I agree with you that it's redundant, but I don't care if other people do it. Some people take putting your own name as town to be a scumtell, but I consider that nonsense.
I agree, because it's not like you're going to put yourself in the scum area. But I mean, why even do it? And the people who are putting themselves below others, I've seen both scum and town do that, but mostly town.

I don't think I ever include myself in my list of reads, and I usually ignore whatever people say about themselves in lists like that, even if they aren't at the top. It's no different from someone saying, "Hey guys, I'm town," or in cases like Az, "Hey guys, I'm scum." -It's just silly WIFOM.

OK, well here is something similar to the current discussion that has happened in #mafia lately. Names have been changed to protect the innocent
It was a 6 player kingmaker Day 2. Player A was outted as KM day 1, Player B was the king and didn't insta hammer the KM, thus confirmed town (As the KM setup at 6P has no Vigs in it.) So it was down to player C and D, Player D goes and says he does not believe Player C was scum, thus PoEing himself as scum. Would this be worth an insta-lynch by the king?
Note in this case Player D was indeed the scum and the king hammered Player C based on previous scummy play as king Day 1.

At that point everyone should have been asking Player D who he thought the scum was. Then when he flailed miserably, the king should have hammered him. (In other words, yes.)

I don't think it's quite this easy. -It would really depend on how player D responded to this sort of questioning, because while being scum is one possible cause for this situation, being a townie who just didn't quite think through the reasoning is also entirely possible. So, while player D should have been thoroughly grilled on their position/reasoning, I don't think it quite calls for an automatic lynch.
See personally, I would have sided with AI on this one. Pretty hard to explain how Player C is in Player D's mind town and how he isn't scum with 2 confirmed. I'll post up a log later when I get a chance to edit the player Name's out.

It might be hard to explain, but things like that happen; try reading through the end of Ice and Fire mafia. Scum team was outed by simple POE, still took me forever to get the scum lynched -because sometimes, townies just don't want to think things through.
@Mu: I'm sorry to hear that. Are you sure it's not just a bad day or whatever, because I've definitely had times when, for both in game and real life reasons, I needed to step away for a few days, or sometimes more. -Of course, if you really aren't enjoying it, then there is no reason to continue, but I'd hate to see you walk away if it's just because of a temporary frustration or annoyance or something like that.
OK, well here is that log I promised. Again names have been edited to protect the players and avoid bias.

Ofc, I'm also a sentimental fool, so...
Funny how he's the opposite of Seppel, right?

I had not idea Dominion was online. I got addicted to Ascension which is similiar to Dominion in that you deck build.
Pfft Zajnet's been there for some time. I was shocked to see Iso there.

This is very true, he uses it all the time. It got me in trouble in Cyan's Impossible mafia. "OMG TFF keeps saying honestly!"
Also in our defense half of your posts read as passive-aggressive attacks at Azrael for being Az. Though a few were less passive then others.
Oh, you read those right. -I would have been doing that even without the restriction.
They have Ascension online?? I have an almost complete game. Missing a few promo's. Great way to kill some time with friends.

I am as well, having been brought by RL mafia friends. I haven't played in ~6 months. Competitive lobby wasn't enjoyable at all.

You are far more thorough that I will every be. I'm sincerely impressed.
You can do that, but it depends on the player's playstyle and the image they're trying to create.

Ok. I was afraid there was some sort of game integrity stigma attached to it.
I'll probably start it up with r_0's game.
God that's impressive. Like I said when I saw it, I'm likely stealing it. lol
The main reason I dont keep notes is because I cant read them over at work. I'm going to start doing all this now.

I would so love to play Dominion. We bought I think 3 of the sets and have yet to play them.
*sigh*
The things I love about the hubby and the things that drive me to drink some how keep me from killing him those days.
I do it more now then before. Jumping from 2 computers and RL in general it helps keeping notes whether you are town or scum.

Thoughts?
This is a service I would be interested in.
I recommend NOT using me, though, if you employ this system, as my play is...unconventional, to say the least.

I claimed scum once as scum, as an April Fools joke. It almost worked, though it also almost got me in trouble.

Come join us in the MTGSalvation chat ||| My trade thread. ||| My Personal Modern Blog: The Fetchlands
