wait wait @ sib and hermit. How does the pk magnet kill?
Could you link me to some evidence or something thanks.
...
I can't link to evidence. Just stand next to someone as Lucas, turn on Psi magnet, and then turn it off. When it turns off, it deals some electrical damage to whoever is touching it. You can check at various damage percentages that it's bludgeoning power actually scales (unlike, say, Luigi's taunt).
I don't know how much damage it deals, though. Really, I don't know how much damage anything deals (except Lucas' PK Fire, which I happen by chance to know does ~20% :grin3:).

? In my experience it does around 8% the first time, less each consecutive time you use it. 20% is huge, no way a fast projectile like that would do that much damage anyways.

A great deal of my friends actually prefer melee to brawl, it seems like there is just a great deal of difference between the two games.
Certainly, Brawl hearkens back to the first Smash. For people who didn't really play that one and binged on Melee it will feel alot slower and less twitchy...which may not be to the liking of some. For myself, there was a great deal about the original smash i prefered to melee. The ability to juggle a bit better and really combo for one thing. The more deliberate pacing and thought that goes into a match in brawl is more to my liking than melee. Either way, i think your friends may just have to adjust...can't so much play melee online in the way you can play brawl.
So far what are some of your favorite stages? I find myself enjoying the new pokemon stadium and shadow moses...i effing HATE flat zone 2...

I agree with everything you say but am a wuss and thus will not quite defend to the death your right to say it.
Spear Pillar is really really cool, but the random beams of death that you can't even predict are just annoying. I would think that a map whose visual appearance invert every so often would be hazardous enough.
Do you guys all know how Spear Pillar works, by the way? It can flip over, rotate ~30 degrees, or become the mirror image of itself - but that's only how the screen is rendered!! You actually don't change the way you move with respect to the environment. That means you have to change the way you control your guy - or rather, change the way you perceive the screen. If it flips over, you fall up. If it turns, you jump at a skew angle. If it inverts left-to-right, you have to play like you're looking at a reflection of the screen (or look at that mirror you propped up in the back of the room, 'cause this is hard ;)).
It's so awesome! (And so tourneybanned!)
And for the last time, it's PSI MAGNET!!! I think the spike property is extraneous. They didn't have to make it an attack. I hope the developers knew what they were doing and it doesn't somehow single-handedly turn Lucas into the tourney-dominating powerhouse of 2008-????.

I just read on IGN that Brawl sold 1.4 million copies since it was released on March 9th. Pretty amazing considering there are alot of people like myself who haven't bought it yet but are planning to.
Brawl is the kind of game with legs for years. It's one of the games that will be proffered to everyone that buys a Wii and might even be the kind of game that sells right alongside the system for years to come. It just has great mass appeal and longevity. A buddy of mine called me last night to tell me it was the fastest selling Nintendo game of all time at about 2 units/second steadily since launch (this was for the 9th-16th period...and yes, i am enough of a gamer geek to care about sales/market saturation and such).
I'm not sure i know which stage spear pillar is, though i think i've fought there in one of the classic modes i've beaten. I have yet to unlock every stage either, so hopefully it's not still locked away. The mention of spinning and turning seems familiar to me though. I wonder how many stages you have to unlock total...haven't gone to check that ish out online quite yet as most of my posting/surfing takes place at work where i doubt i can find info like that.
Anyone have revised opinions of certain characters after playing for a week? I've found that I like olimar more than i thought i would even though i still have a great deal of room to improve. I'm still not familiar with how each of his pikmin colors function nor which ones i prefer for instance...divining that is something i actually look forward to too
Laggy wifi is nintendos problem. They made it such that even if your internet was good, it would still suck if your oppenents was bad. So there are techniques to increase speed and the like through port forwarding on your router. By doing this you will speed up teh connection and most likely not a lagggle.
well, one important thing to do is set your Wifi router to channel 1 or 11. Not sure about the port forwarding, though i guess it makes sense as, like bittorrent, you're moving alot of data back and forth at once.

This is something that really, really, REALLY bugs me about Brawl. Like half the new stages (well, that I've unlocked so far, and I'm not really trying really hard to unlock EVERYTHING) seem like they have random deathtraps in them. And by random, I don't mean, "you can avoid it if you're concious of it, and then you can have fun throwing other players in to it," but random more like, "what the hell just hit me?!" I have the same problem with the final smashes, which just feel gimmicky at best, and ridicilously irritating and capable of winning games out of nowhere at worst. The worst part is that everyone's going to want to play with them for a while because they're all new and stuff.
And for the last time, it's PSI MAGNET!!! I think the spike property is extraneous. They didn't have to make it an attack. I hope the developers knew what they were doing and it doesn't somehow single-handedly turn Lucas into the tourney-dominating powerhouse of 2008-????.
I've been liking Lucas a lot (that pink shirt is absolutley adorable, and that's a good enough reason to play him for me), but man oh man, do I suck at playing him. I still need to learn how to do that RAR or whatever; it seems like 9 times out of 10, I end up either a) using PK Thunder by accident, or b) shooting my PK Fire into the ground instead of a target. I still love him, though.
That's pretty much my take on Brawl: yeah, there's some annoying stuff, and yeah, I curse at the TV a LOT, but at the end of the day, it's still fun, and was totally worth the $50.

You see, part of what makes playing Magic so special is figuring out the good R&D decisions from the bad ones. If they were all good, it would take away an important element of the game: complaining about Magic on the Internet. - Mark Rosewater

If thats what you are talking about with lucas. First thing you want to understand is the whole idea of a forward analog and a backwards c stick. This is the reason that he flies backwards. You will understand if you try it. so to get it to work consistently to practice at least. Face the target
now jump
then press forward on analog and backwards on c and voila you will fly backwarddddddsssss a lot. if you are still haveing trouble just double jump and do the same and you will see that you fly if you are doing it right.
i thought the RAR thing was when you ran forward, reversed direction on the analog stick and jumped at the same time, thus using momentum to carry you forward while facing backward...allowing nice 'ouch, right in the nose!' Bair's on targets in front of you.
Lofwyr: It is, however it has been discovered if you set the C-stick to special it RAR's for you if you do it in the opposite direction of the analog stick (I believe).

Oh God. That's definitely a bug. It can only be caused by a strange interaction of the direction-setting of C-stick configured to a button, with the usual DI control given to the analog stick. I might have known there would be a problem with giving a joystick the functionality of a mere button.
Jeez, like one guy on smashboards said, "7 years, 0 playtesting."
I think I understand the waveland grab, too. You still waveland in the game, right, but when you grab, it puts forward momentum on your guy. The fact that your friction is reduced (for some god-awful reason) at that time means that this momentum, which is usually canceled out by something, propels you forward.

oh crap, so there's a version of wavedashing still in the game? When you do it are you forced to execute the grab and thus suffer the recovery time too?
I hope it's not an effective technique and doesn't gain mass appeal/use. The whole thing with the c-stick is just silly too...in sanctioned events or whatever no one will be allowed to set the c-stick to the 'special' button anyway. But for online it could be a pain in the butt.
