This is a man who killed the first Robin, who is the only person who Batman would actively try to kill (Yeah, the movies messed that one up, too.). And what do we get? Jack, being silly.
FWIW, I disagree with wanting to kill the Joker. That is the one line he will not cross and that’s what makes him different then say the Punisher. Like when he breaks the Joker’s neck in the Dark Knight Returns. The Jokes basically chides him for not having the balls to actually kill him, just cripple him. Just my 2 cents.

No, you're absolutely right, but you misunderstood me. Batman vowed that he would not kill anyone. But there have been multiple moments in the Batman comics where Batman has almost been driven to kill. And almost all of those times, the person who has nearly taken him there is The Joker. Examples of this can be seen in "Hush," "Dark Knight Returns," (he comes just short, and was clearly considering murder), and "A Death In the Family (I think)." Batman doesn't kill, but if he were to kill someone, it would be Joker.
The Joker summed it up well in "The Clown at Midnight:"
"You can't kill me without becoming like me. I can't kill you without losing the only human being who can keep up with me. Isn't it ironic?!"
If Batman were to kill the Joker, or any other character, he wouldn't be much better than the villains he locks up.
Once again, this means that I simply cannot compliment the 1989 Batman. Batman's refusal to kill the Joker is a central peg in their relationship! Oh, wait. Crap.
Anywho, I saw the trailer, and I'm just as excited as ever for this movie. It seems like the Joker is being played very nearly to perfection, the cast seems to be doing everyone justice, and all in all, this looks like it is my hype-movie of 2008. Huzzah!
EDIT:
I just listened to the original Dark Knight trailer like 7 times in a loop. At the end, when Ledger says "Starting tonight, people will die", a voice after it says "I'm a man of my word". However, that voice doesn't sound like Ledger's Joker. It is deeper, and throatier, and more sinister. That is Eckhart's Two Face. I might be tugging at straws here, but it really doesn't sound the same to me. Plus, that is a very "Two-Face" kind of statement. We know that he lives and dies by the coin, and he never disagrees with it, so the idea that he is honest (well, by his definition) makes sense in that context.
It also makes sense that it isn't Ledger, because the Joker isn't honest at all. He is very crafty and, well, a liar. The man hasn't done an honest thing in his entire life. It doesn't represent the Joker's character, and knowing how well Ledger portrayed the Joker (with Nolan's praise), it would seem that it fits TF more.
Am I on to something here, or am I rambling?
I think that you're throwing stuff together well, but I think that this guess is incorrect. The thing is, The Joker is perhaps the most honest character in all of the Batman universe, unless he sees a lie as a great joke. At the very least, he is the most honest character when it comes to his true nature. This has been brought up in a few ways: For example, in the (non-canon) Joker-Mask crossover, Joker put on the mask, which supposedly brings out all hidden aspects of a person's character. However, once he put on the mask, there was no notable change in his character: He was the exact same person, except this time with superpowers.
Also, the statement doesn't really make sense for Two-Face. I'm less familiar with his character, but I'm led to believe that his coin-flip decisions are pretty immediate. I guess I just have a hard time picturing Harvey/Two-Face sitting in his lair, thinking "My, what am I going to do tonight?" I have an even harder time imagining him deciding this by flipping a coin, then saying, "Starting tonight, people will die. I'm a man of my word." It just doesn't work for me. Besides, I think that the movie would be very cluttered if it ended with a Two-Face climax. The Batman/Joker relationship easily has enough material to fill a two-hour movie. Save the Face for three, I say!
"I believe...whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you...stranger." Six minutes of Joker goodness from The Dark Knight, from YouTube:

Watch it ASAP, I doubt it'll be up very long.
If the producers would have the video taken down (and they most certainly would have this pirated video removed), it's not okay to post. If at some point the segment is released through official channels, we can link to it. But a shaky camcorder recording from a theatre is in no way official. Link removed and post warned for linking to pirated media.
I don't think that Satriani744 was suggesting that Two-Face said both "Starting tonight, people will die", as well as "I'm a man of my word", but only the latter. That would make sense, considering the character's adherence to coin flips.
I didn't mean that both were Harvey Dent. I meant that the first was clearly The Joker, and the 2nd was Dent.

Now the video's titled "The Anarchic Arachnid From Another Space." And amazingly, it's still up, despite aintitcool posting a link.
Ah, I misunderstood. My apologies. I stand by my claim that I think and hope that Two-Face won't show up in The Dark Knight, though.
I'm sure they're show his...'creation' though. Doesn't the joker attack Dent at a trial or something? Thus turning him into Two-Face? Which, btw, would mean that everything Two-Face has done the Joker is partly responible for.

And The Black Mage- They might change this for the movie, but originally, it is a mob boss. I'm spacing out on the name, though.

The plans are for Dent to be important to the Plot of the movie, he is Batmans legal counterpart through the movie. Trying to clean up Gotham. Most of what I have read as far as info from the actors and production indicates near the end, the Joker causes Dents disfigurement during a trial...and Dent goes insane. Seems the movies are being written to lead into each other. Begins leads into Dark Knight, and DK leads into the next movie. There is actually meant to be very little time between each movie.
Wow I'm glad I saw those picture thanks for posting them Locutux now I'm actually excited for the Dark Knight. I wonder if the joker in the batman suit is because people in the movie think Batman is also the joker. I agree with you Wrathchild nurse Joker is so creepy.
No, I think Batman suit is just a random victim of the Joker. Don't forget he wants to mock Batman, so putting dead victims with Joker make-up in a batsuit is just part of the Joker's personallity.
are they going to cast someone else as he joker? i really hope that they don't, heath ledger looked really weird and cool as him. R.I.P
aw dam, it comes out 6th days after my birthday! if it came out on the 12th, that would be one pf the best days of my life: eventide prerelese and the dark knight... That reminds me, i'm Aquaman an i know Batman. He's not as angsty as they show him to be.

Heath had finished his parts as The Joker before he died. So, no. they're not going to re-cast him, due to the fact it would push the movie back, and there'd be some pissed off fans.
As far as other movies, yea. That's quite obvious they need a different Joker if they use The Joker again.
