Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Because he's the hero MTGS deserves, and the one it needs right now. So we'll global him. Because he can take it. Because he's not just our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. An expired rascal.

ExpiredRascals you sir are a god-like hero.

I love the tempest dark ritual. I was running a signed tempest one until I got my beta.
Yeah the tempest one is really badass. I don't really have the lure most people have for alpha/beta cards or foils for all that matter, so I'm not considering that.
Although I have to agree, that like mirage, masques has a lot of good art(my counterspell is masques and I love that) for me the masques ritual doesn't come near the mirage and tempest ones.
I prefer the Saga art, too. Unfortunately, the card shows an obscure and defunct card type instead of the proper one. The Phyrixa vs. The Coalition Dark Ritual is a great alternative here: Saga art, Saga flavor text and correct card type. While I am normally a huge fan of the new card frame, the whole card looks a bit too light here, which takes away some of the sinister charm of the old version. Still, the best Dark Ritual out there, imo.
I never understood this and I understand it even less since it was pointed out to me that Beta (and Alpha) cards don't even have proper black borders. So, not only are Beta cards old frame and their text boxes are an absolute mess (even simple effects have weird wordings), but they also have the ugliest borders in the whole game? No thanks.

That's why I said personally. You don't have to understand it. To each his own.
By the way, for the Dark Ritual I prefer the Beta.

The weird thing is that I seem to be in the minority here. There are so many Beta lovers in the cube forum. I simply picked your comment as an example for their position. My little rant was not in any way directed against you. It was just a general expression of my puzzlement over this matter.

I didn't take offense, I was also just trying to point out that everyone has their own distinct likes and dislikes for cards. In reality I don't really understand the point of this entire thread. 100 people could all agree on which particular art they prefer and everyone is still going to pick the version they like. At least I hope that is the case. Play what looks right to you, not the masses.

Def original art for me. I can't explain why, but I love it. Something about the subtle glow of the ooze and its understated menace. Magic has too few understated cards.
Eh all things considered ebay prices are relatively reasonable when you figure new foil pyromaster and foil garruk are selling for 59.99 at retailers. Should be interesting to see if they do something like this again because if they don't these could really be worth a lot down the road.
It's a shriekmaw? How did I not notice that?
I was just thinking the same thing!

I like the Mirage one best personally. I just love the look of Mirage Block cards in general.
A lot of people love the tempest one though. The flavour text is also of the badass variety.

Of these, easily tempest. Good art and great flavor text.
Still don't like Rebecca Guay...
I consider the Saga and Tempest Dark Rituals to be about the same quality.
That's the reason I'm considering the mirage one. I just love almost every single piece of art from that block. IT'S ALL SO GOD DAM BEAUTIFUL.

The art is good, but I prefer the other ones.

I'll grant that some of her cards look good in foil. As such, I do like my Bitterblossom. The Path to Exile promo is passable.

Promo Scavenging Ooze or foil M14 Ooze with original art?
I dig the promo, but there is something about OG art...
