Burn, are you talking about Mystical Teachings or Mystical Tutor?
I cut Teachings for Tutor, because although the latter is technically disadvantageous in that it doesn't put the card straight into your hand, one mana is just so much easier to keep open.
I would love to see a Simic draw-go deck with Ambush Viper and Wolfir Avenger using Teachings as the engine.
And the Briarbro's. That could actually be a deck. If only there were more Flash tutors.
LOL I was talking about Mystical Teachings. My bad! Tutor is much less atractive to me for all the standard reasons. I would sooner run enlightened tutor since artifacts and enchantments are among the most powerful cards in the cube.
Hey everyone, now I'm very new to cube and have recently been researching current lists and have also been looking over cards in my collection. Now a card that I recently stumbled on and was wondering if anyone had tested it or had any insight on is vedalken anatomist. It seems like it would be a very good tool against aggro decks. What does everyone think.
I've tried him before. His ability is awesome, but the activation cost always made him too slow. Don't get me wrong.. this guy did work in it's day during limited, but in cube, it's not good enough.
I had Vedalken Anatomist for a while, but you just always had better things to do or were facing too much pressure. It's a shame, because it's a really cool card.
I run Gatstaf Shepherd and I'm quite fond of it. If it works, it's totally awesome, if not, it's a bear.
Specialities about the cube: U tempo, B aggro, R slow-ish are supported. G aggro is not.
Currently trying to support tokens in all colors but blue, in different ways: W pumps them, B sacrifices them, R suicides them, G has decent-sized ones.
cube list outdated
*literal C/U definition according to gatherer
**some cards are banned. Library of Alexandria, Land Tax, Sol Ring.
Hey everyone, I was reading some of the older pages in this thread and I noticed that you guys tried to put the Lorwyn 5 in the CU/be. If those one or two times that you included them into your cube, how did you guys find it? Were they overpowered? Underwhelming? I know it's clearly breaking the rules but like everyone said, it's nice to have a change in the cube every once in a while with spicy things like the lorwyn 5! Please let me know cause I'd like to try to put them in as well for testing with the people I play with at my LGS.
Thanks! Look forward to hearing anyone's stories with them.

Did anybody actually try them? I think it was more of an idea than something anybody actually did.

I write about cube and run cube drafts on magic online.
We were just talking about what it would be like. It just feels wrong to throw rares into it. However, I was saying that for my 100th cube (we are at 82), I was thinking that everyone in my playgroup can bring in 5 rares (1 of each color) and throw them in the cube for fun.
I do think that throwing rares in once in a while could be fun, as blasphemous as it is. However, I don't think I could make it a habit because I enjoy the sanctity of Peasant too much! haha
No I definitely agree that these should not be throw in as regulars. I was just curious since there was a discussion about and I wondered if anyone actually went through with it haha
i feel like you could get away with "honourable uncommons" like painlands and stuff like serra sphinx but even that includes a slippery slope argument. but really, if you wanna cube vizzerdrix in your peasant cube, go right ahead lol.
I'd rather just avoid that slope. If I were to include any rares, it would be the painlands, but then there's nothing logical to stop me from using every rare I come across.

Well, there's self-restraint. I added painlands, then ODY block filter lands, then RAV block shock lands, and people loved them. I've definitely been tempted to add some rares on power level to the cube, but just haven't felt like pushing it further than lands.
Peasant is a defined thing, I don't really understand adding rares permanently but not just making a powered cube.
If it's more than just lands you're talking about, then it's a pretty big step budget-wise from peasant to powered. Not to mention it basically becomes a completely different game. Additionally, starting out as a peasant cube if you want to make a budget "normal cube" isn't a bad idea.
If you're talking about just lands, most people that run painlands seem to do so for the benefit of aggro, since bouncelands kind of suck at that job.
hellkite hatchling is a card that has me intrigued, has anyone ran it with the right support of tokens and what not? If so what were your impressions, because at first glance he seems pretty sweet.
I just think Devour is inherently X-for-1'ing yourself. If it had haste I'd consider it, but having to wait a turn just gives your opponent an enormous opportunity to remove it.

The difference between this and say, reckless waif, is that when it's off it's still doing something to the board state.

Striking out on your own != peasant cube

i don't think it really has a place in dimir considering both black and blue has plenty of card advantage options already.

I think I'd be just as happy having Mask of Memory most of the time and I would agree on Dimir being pretty packed already.
