It doesn't take too much for a card to excite me. While I may not be bursting at the seams, I am happy to see Dragon Egg, a great 3 drop for the casual dragon deck (mine in particular). It just fits the curve well for a solid red, aggressive dragon deck. It's also good fodder material for a sac outlet.
It's very flavourful. One of those cards that makes you wonder why it never got made earlier. Might actually collect as many as these as I can, start my own hatchery..
Seems like an enabler for a sacrifice deck in draft. Notice that black has a TON of common/uncommon sac outlets. I'm guessing Tenacious Dead, Pitchburn Devils, and Dragon Egg are meant to be the gas for that engine.
(Probably some other cards to work with the sacrifice archetype too, I've only skimmed the spoiler at this point).

Act of treason is back at common.
This is a cool card, and I wish it had a specific token.

I primarily play limited, so most of my spoiler season comments view cards through that lens.
Barrage of Expendables, Festering Newt, Bubbling Cauldron, Sporemound, and Trading Post all seem suited to that deck as well (though obviously Post is rare, and Sporemound is green while most of the other pieces are black and red).
Does anyone know what the token looks like? I like this card a lot. Although seeing a card like Roc Egg makes me sad because it's the same cmc but it gives a better creatures and has an initial better body.
They should've repringted Roc Egg :/
Still want to see what the token looks like though!
that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur
I like this card. Not competitive constructed, but still a neat card. I loved Roc Egg. I also like the Wall of Frost reprint.
At the person who said this was worse than doc egg, firebreathing is better than an extra 1/1 in on a flier, as it can do a ton of damage in Limited because it's so hard to block. The lower initial toughness is also good because it makes it easier to "hatch" the egg for the Furnace Whelp. In limited this is pretty solid. An affordable firebreathing flier is pretty strong.
I love this card (for casual)! When I first saw it my mind jumped to the Devour dragons as playing well with this, though the flavor of the interaction is way off, haha!

I am confused. How is this card better than Roc Egg when Roc Egg is always a 3/3 flyer and the token from Dragon Egg will only be a 2/2 that can become a 3/2 at best. Also, Roc Egg having more toughness means it will be able to block more often and when it does die, you're compensated with an even better creature. Dragon egg does die more easily, but for what?
I am going to get eight of them. I want to try them at FNM in a dragon deck based on Scourge, but it probably won't do too well. The first 3 cmc dragon ever printed. One thing no one has mentioned is that it escapes wrath effects. I hope beyond all hope that dragons are given tribal effects in Theros. Maybe token generation at lower cmc's.

Dragon tribal decks don't have many options at the low end of the curve.
Also, reminds me of upper Blackrock Spire.
Must've been a large egg...
This same idea has been done twice. Rukh Egg .. Roc Egg.
The dragon from the egg is Furnace Whelp.
Practice for Khans of Tarkir Limited:

Though I must say it really makes a Pyroclasm resolution funnier.

A Dragons/Descendents' Path deck could be pretty fun for FNM. Especially with Utvara Hellkite. Timmyyyyy
...Yeah, ok, that did not work.

Your expertise in the field of Dragons intrigues me.

on a side note it upsets me that a birds egg is harder then a dragon egg .. even if its a big monster bird
