You may have noticed that Big Box retail shops are selling the boosterpacks in the cardboard blister. I picked some up the other day and noticed that they were pre-opened, had their rares extracted, and re-sealed.
They couldn't reseal the booster, as they had made a slit on the top to extract the cards and just glued the cardboard shell back together.
Thinking this incident was isolated I bought another a few weeks later. Still bad. Then I went to another store. No rares.
Anyone else noticed this or is just in my area?

What's the big deal? You could have played multiple Righteous Avengers for years now.

I haven't bought any for a while, but I bought a few last year from wal-mart and they were fine. My guess is that an employee at the store has his own rare/money card-pilfering operation going on, and is sealing the blister packs back up after he loots them.
Sounds like you have some interesting theives in your area.
This sort of thing isn't uncommon, people rip discs out of boxed game cases all the time, and put them back on the shelf (or ditch the box somewhere).
I think boosters would be small enough to steal though, just rip the pack out, and put the blister back on the shelf. Then again, the packs sometimes have security strips in them (or they used to atleast) so maybe extracting the rare is safer?.

I work part-time at a Wal Mart, and, while I'll never* risk a job for Magic cards, its a common fantasy among some employees "if I do this, this, and this, I could potentially get away scott free!"
*though there was this one time were someone stoll a precon and left the pack, either way we were going to get credit for the theft.
There is a lot of theft and return at these stores where people take cards like that. Providing a counter point, my local target at 3 packs where two were worldwake when those packs were pretty expensive yet stil in standards and I opened a Jace, TMS from one.

I had this happen at my local walmart with the planechase decks with the strix and the deck with the shardless agent. Bought both and opened them to find only land inside. The bottom of the box looked like it had been opened and glued back shut after closer inspection when I returned them.
Way back in the day I bought Super Mario RPG at a K-mart. When I got in the car and opened it (to read the manual on the way home, as was the tradition then) the only thing inside was a piece of wood in the shape of an SNES cartridge.

Every time a card in a box set hits $8+ or so, every Walmart and Target within an hour's drive of me has their boxes opened on the shelf with the money cards gone. They aren't even buying and returning them. They are cutting the boxes open on the shelf, taking the cards out, and walking out with them.
It took me 2 weeks to find a Sorin vs. Tibalt at a chain store that actually had Sorin and Tibalt in it. I probably saw 20-30 that had just those cards missing.

Years ago I got a copy of some Bond game for like, Gamecube or PS2 or something, opened it up, and there was no game disc inside. It was shrinkwrapped and everything. My mind was blown.

I remember purchasing an empty commander deck from Target. The over-sized cards were the only cards left. As an afterthought, you could tell that it was lighter than a normal deck. When I returned the deck I went to the aisle with the employee and tried seeing if any of them were also similarly light. Two other decks had been opened and re-sealed with glue after the cards were removed. He pulled the empties from the shelf.
I returned a week later to see if there were any more product. I wanted a few more commander decks. At that point, ALL of the remaining decks and a few new ones had been stolen.
I know people who go to Target and look inside single figure Heroclix packs looking for the mass market exclusive chase. Now, they do buy it after finding it but its like buying a pack of Worldwake for $4 after learning it had Jace in it.
Years ago, my wife gave birth to our son at the local hospital, but later when we asked to see him, someone had removed the baby from his crib and left a bag of russet potatoes in his place.
But no, I've never seen this at my local Walmart/Target. Must not have many "enterprising" players in my area.

Tibalt is literally the last card that should be stolen from Sorin vs. Tibalt.

About a week ago i found a box in walmart that had ONLY the Tibalt missing.... It was the funniest thing i had seen in a long time....
My local target has people stealing the packs/planes out of products, but leaving the decks, so I end up getting 4-5 planechase decks for $25. Its sweet.
But seriously, just check what you buy. If it feels odd, pick another off the shelf.

its pretty funny since tibalt is almost worthless...
as for blister packs. its very strange I never have any luck with magic but I occasionally crack the blister pack for yugioh and pokemon which I can tell are stacked.
Guys this happened to me. 2 packs one fine one no rare. Honestly I won't buy from Walmart again, I haven't called yet but am I allowed to go there and return them and say this is a rip off? Or at least exchange them. Show them what I opened etc. or do they only accomdate thieves returning product?

Unfortunatley MTG attracts a lot of people with a "As long as I get mine I don't care about anyone else" attitude. It's a shame.
Or this. That's actually far more likely.
I heard of some guy at another store who bought a flat screen, filled the box with sand, and returned it. No one thought to look in the box.

Would have been better if they just took the stuff and ran. Which honestly they would probably get away with scott free.
