"Whenever a creature you control other than equipped creature dies, you may sacrifice equipped creature and pay WW. If you do, return the first creature to the battlefield."
Nim Deathmantle says you don't have to specify "under your control". Also, you should probably say "first creature" instead of "that creature", because there are two creatures being referred to.
Cool, thanks. I think that's the whole idea now. Thank you for the help!
Typical Mythical Sword of Legend4
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (M)
Indestructable, hexproof
Equipped creature gets +3/+3 and has first strike, hexproof, wither and is legendary.
Whenever a creature you control becomes blocked by a creature with greater power than your creature's toughness, you may attach Typical Mythical Sword of Legend to it. "Really strong, makes you an expert swordsman, magical immunity, incurable wounds, time of need nonsense..."
I mean really, am I missing any common tropes? Ok, now for a serious entry.
Ensiform4
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (M)
Equipped creature gets +2/+2
Return Ensiform to its owner's hand: You may search your library for an Equipment card and put it onto the battlefield. If Ensiform was attached to a creature, that Equipment enters the battlefield attached to that creature instead. Then shuffle your library.
Equip 3 Sword or shield for any man.
Aurora, Spear of Rafiq's Finest Hour5
Legendary Artifact - Equipment {M}
Equipped creature has double strike, exalted, and "Whenever this creature attacks alone, if it's the first combat phase of the turn, untap this creature. After this phase, there is an additional combat phase."
Equip 3
Spellshatter 3
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (M)
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery from your hand, exile it instead of putting it in your graveyard.
Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player or planeswalker, you may cast a spell exiled by ~.

Aside from the fact that making the creature legendary is unnecessary rules baggage, I'd say that this is fine (although you could have it etb from your hand if the trigger condition is met too).
Quote from Comprehensive Rules »
704.5k If two or more legendary permanents with the same name are on the battlefield, all are put into their owners' graveyards. This is called the "legend rule." If only one of those permanents is legendary, this rule doesn't apply.
I think my favorite interaction here is equipping it to an animated Stalking Stones and then suddenly your opponent's Ayumi, the Last Visitor is unblockable.
Note to self: Don't make cards that make things legendary unless it's similar to Leyline of Singularity.
I mean, it could have been relevant if the equipment itself wasn't legendary. 99% of the time it still wouldn't have mattered, but if you're limiting the # of permanents that can have the equipment to 1, you're increasing that % to 100.

What you say is true, but your CR citation is old and doesn't reflect the new Legend Rule changes.
Huh. Whaddya know. Did not know that card existed.
Okay, how's this:
The Blade of Scions3
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (M)
Equipped creature gets +3/+1.
When equipped creature dies, if it was legendary, you may search your library for a card with the same name as that creature, put it into play, and equip ~ to it.
Equip 4
Sarkhan's Dragon Staff6
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (R)
Whenever equipped creature attacks, put a draconic counter on it and unattach Sarkhan's Dragon Staff.
Each creature you control with a draconic counter on it is a 5/5 red Dragon with flying.
Equip — Discard a card.

Hmmm... with such a generic name as it has, and considering the joke, it would be more flavorful if the artifact wasn't legendary. Then again, that doesn't fulfill the challenge
The Essence Resonator1
Legendary Artifact - Equipment (R)
Equipped creature has hexproof and can't attack or block. 0: If your mana pool is empty, add mana to your mana pool equal to the equipped creature's converted mana cost.
Equip 3
I wanted it to reduce cost from spells you cast equal to the creature's converted mana cost... But I couldn't find a proper way to word it.
Nightcrawl, Sword of Chainer5
Mythic
Legendary Artifact - Equipment
Nightmare creatures you control have +1/+1
Whenever a creature dealt combat damage by equipped creature this turn dies, exile it instead and put it onto the battlefield under your control.
It is black in addition to its colors and it is a Nightmare in addition to its other types.
Whenever Nightcrawl, Sword of Chainer leaves the battlefield, exile all Nightmare creatures.
Equip - pay 3 life
Crown of Connection 3
Rare
Legendary Artifact - Equipment
Aura cards in your hand gain Aura Swap. The Aura Swap cost is equal to its casting mana cost.
Whenever an Aura card enchants a creature you control, you may put a token copy of that Aura onto the battlefield enchanting equipped creature.
Equip 2
Giving Aura cards in hand Aura swap accomplishes nothing because Aura swap can only be activated from the battlefield.
Also, see Bramble Elemental.

It is black in addition to its colors and it is a Nightmare in addition to its other types.
Whenever Nightcrawl, Sword of Chainer leaves the battlefield, exile all Nightmare creatures.

You know that Chainer got his name because his weapon of choice was a chain, right?
Crown of Connection 3
Rare
Legendary Artifact - Equipment
Aura cards in your hand gain Aura Swap. The Aura Swap cost is equal to its casting mana cost.
Whenever an Aura card enchants a creature you control, you may put a token copy of that Aura onto the battlefield enchanting equipped creature.
Equip 2
(are these correctly worded?)
IIW: take a card at random and build a card that works against it
This second one doesn't work as you want. Aura swap is an activated ability that works while the card is on the battlefield, not your hand. The triggered ability on the crown should also say "Whenever an Aura card becomes attached to a creature you control". Enchanting something is a continuous thing that happens. The action is becoming attached/unattached.
