How would Gerry's list get wrecked by control? The only cards that are blank against it are the 3 Angers. The creatures are big, hard to deal with, and present a fast clock, 4 read the bones lets it play a long game finding threats or mana or answers really well, the removal matches up well against 'Walkers, and a main board whip and Elspeth gives fantastic inevitability. Bringing in Thoughtseizes, more draw, and another Elspeth just makes things even better. Besides, post rotation standard is always infested with Aggro decks.

I have to agree. Aggro will be everywhere for the first 2 months and that version does a good job of bringing a balanced deck with good SB options. Honestly, it's one of the better decks I've seen in this thread(including the bloated one that was just retired).
I'm glad that Gerry agrees with me that, while good, Magma Jet is not for this meta. Another Card I think you guys should consider is Hundred-Handed One. This card is great against aggro decks, while still quite good against midrange and control. Vigilance also really good at allowing us to become more proactive in a game against aggro instead of waiting to stabilize, then starting to close out the game. He also can't be killed by Mizzium Mortars and more mostrosity also gives us a needed outlet for the much feared mana flood.
For those that are running Desecration Demon, I would suggest playing Aurelia. If you haven't noticed Aurelia untaps all you creatures regardless of whether they attacked. You get a double edict, or just win the game on the spot since Aurelia and Desecration demon deal 18 damage unbuffed.
I thought I'd finally post my list to give you an idea of where I have been going.
You will probably notice that there is not a single 4 of in the entire deck. This is because I like to have a diversity of threats and removal. It requires my opponents to have equally diverse answers to my threats. Likewise in an open meta there is very likely to be a large variety of decks and I want to have a diverse number of removal spells. One thing I have been wanting to find room for is Doom Blade/Ultimate Price/Heroe's Demise. Why? I want to be able to keep my opponents honest. If I have mana untapped, I want them to be afraid of casting that Unflinching Courage or other enchantments. I want them to think that I will be able to interact with their attackers to make their life miserable. As it is, I can probably bluff it a few times, but I would like a 1-2 of to really punish them for choosing wrong.
Again, I would stress that Rakdos Keyrune has been over-performing. Things he does: Turn 4 Blood Baron, allows removal and holding him up as a blocker, fixes mana (Huge in my slightly greedy deck), and agreat post Supreme Verdict threat.
I don't think Underworld Cerberus should be in the maindeck. Our creatures cost a lot. With cheap aggro creatures and hasters like Stormbreath Dragon, I think it will not be good for us. It is a great sideboard card against control, in that it will recur all of our threats to overwhelm even a post-Sphinx's Revelation board state.
If you guys haven't worked on your sideboard yet, you should. I know you don't know how the meta is going to turn out, but remember that at least half, if not much more, of your games are going to be played post sideboard. It is important to constantly be tweaking that as well as the MD.
most control lists are play 10 counter spells with more in the board. combined with wrath effects and d-sphere they pack a lot of answers. jerrys deck plays few creatures , this plays rigjt into the control players game, and I believe I said it would get wrecked g1. this standard will not be infested with agro decks look at the cards available for a control deck the most important ones are all still around. control was already a clear tier 1.5 deck and it losses nothing of consequence. if anything control is more viable because grixas has a sweeper now. running a list like jerrys with 13 win conditions plus one more in the side is weak.
I think people are underestimating control right now. agro decks in general are so much slower now. I know that the mono red deck starts fast but without hellrider it is manageable especially if u run helix and blood baron.
most control lists are play 10 counter spells with more in the board.
What control decks are running 10 counter spells? I might have missed something somewhere but 3-6 seems to be the norm, and has been for a while. The SB counters are generally a more specific form of counter (i.e. Negate or Essence Scatter).
I do agree the control matchup is going to be the hardest. Grixis and Esper have access to the best and most versatile removal packages available right now, on top of counterspells. Aggro outside of monocolored aggro is going to be much slower due to land not being as perfect as it was in INN/RTR standard, and RWB has answers to "fast" aggro to begin with.

While Aggro is usually prevalent after a rotation, I would say it is actually very fair to assume that much like last rotation, this rotation is going to really fill itself out with Midrange and Control decks more than aggro decks.
The assumption that aggro decks will litter the meta with cards like Sphinx's Revelation, Azorius Charm, Supreme Verdict and a number of other powerful control cards smattering the card pool, seems to be pretty baseless. This was evident last year with decks like Bant Control flooding states results and continuing its streak for the following weeks, and UWR Midrange following it shortly after and into UW flash. While they did not dominate, there can be a clear conclusion drawn about the power level of various control-centric cards in the RTR block that have the luxury of surviving rotation into a format with a fairly significant power level drop in the way of aggressive strategies.
After a bit of using GT's list, I can say that I dislike 4 Read the Bones, it is a lot. Desecration Demon is fine, far more exceptional with the Whip out, but then again what isn't? Keyrune still fails to impress me.
Overall, I would say I want less Read the Bones, more whips and more creatures. I think Dreadbore and Chained to the Rocks is enough to really be able to answer most things, however I hate running into situations where I have to wait turns, and turns to kill something. Stormbreath Dragon is brutal unless you either keep their creature count low, or stick 2 demons on board. Chained to the Rock should also be looked at as a potential liability in some game 2 and 3's, which is where I feel more removal outside of CttR and Dreadbore is needed.
His list also just kind of rolls over to Ashiok a lot easier than other configurations I have tried.
chain to rocks has been very underwhelming. this may be in part to my mana base being built wrong but its a conditional removal spell attached with a special condition to cast. dreabore and hero demise hit everything this card can without leaving the possibility of your opponent getting it back.
I think Dreadbore and Chained to the Rocks is enough to really be able to answer most things
No Mizzium Mortars for opposing Blood Barons, who will be played in the mirror, Junk, B/W, and has even been a 3 of in Esper controllately? I also don't like being unable to react on an opponents turn, especially with hasters such as Stormbreath Dragon.
a few times I don't have a mountain or I want to cast blood baron and don't have the thrid white. its probably due to my mana base, but other times I get hit with the polis dude and they get their creature back or they wear/tear it. I just don't like having a fiend slayer effect hanging around for my opponent to get something if he is able, if you get my drift.

No, not really. I honestly have not felt the need for them all that much.

Here is the control list i have been playing. Still working out a sideboard for it. My local playgroup haven't really been testing for theros much so i have had to test random games on cockatrice but the deck has done fairly well. The mana base has worked fine so far but i am not an expert of manabases. The main gameplan vs control and midrange is to land and protect an Elspeth. Force them to use D-sphere and Hero's downfall on cards like demon and chandra and then resolve an elspeth and ride it to victory.
I am a bit worried about the number of shock effects in the deck but Whip, Obzedat and helix can let you gainback the life. Games vs aggro have been fairly tight but i can usually wait till 3 for and anger and then stabilize with helix and obzedat. The current problem Im having is Purphorous. My only way to kill him requires him to be a creature which doesn't happen much with the game plan of kill everything that they play so he tends to sit there hitting me for 2 damage everytime a creature comes into play.
Why are people not playing Lifebane? That card is too good not to play 4 of.
Because it doesn't hit Thragtusk anymore. The big decks in the first few weeks are likely to be Esper Control, GW Aggro, and RDW. Lifebane is only playable against GW Aggro, so it doesn't deserve spots in this deck.
What are you saying? It trades, it kills people and planeswalkers, it takes blood baron and obzedat/archangel at late, it takes smiters and other idiot creatures vs gw and reckoners.

Incorrect. 3 power intimidate is relevant in all those matchups.
@kamahl
like I said it probably the mana base. but I still don't like oringing something when I can just kill it and be done with it. and chain isn't even as versatile as oring andnit has more requirements to be cast.
this is the question I ask everytime I play chain. could I have dreadbored it, and not lost anything, does this creature need to be dealt woth turn one., will it matter if this creature come back into play latter in the game. I get that the benefit to chain is that its casting cost but I don't feel that this out ways its drawbacks.
Incorrect. 3 power intimidate is relevant in all those matchups.
3 power intimidate is not relevent vs RDW as you need to be more defensive.
It is quite good vs both esper and GW through grabbing Angel and Smiter out of GW and Heliod and Blood baron out of esper. I don't think it is worth a maindeck slot though. It lost alot of value with huntmast, thragtusk resto angel and acidic slime all rotating out (though junk reanimator hasn't been a big deal for a while) We also got access to prime hand disruption in the form of thoughtsieze and with reanimator leavig the format with the loss of rites the upside of exiling is much lower then it once was.
This is combied with the degradation of mana bases making BB and w/r, w/r, w/r much harder to hit on turn three meaning you almost have to choose between reckoner and lifebane zombie as zombie loses alot of value past t3 as you ca't rely on hitting 4 drops such as heliod and pois crusher and 3 drops such as smiter and reckoner.
In case you can use it to block or take a reckoner, you guys give opinions about cards without even playing them.
I'll make it very simple
Do you want to play Lifebane or Reckoner? And even then why are you playing Lifebane?
Context matters. Saying Lifebane is a auto 4 of is just as ridiculous when both Reckoner and to a lesser extent Sin Collector trump it in furthering your gameplan. Lifebane was exceptional not only because he could pre emptively get rid of threats but also because those threats were stronger in general.
Now if the meta warps into some GW monstrosity then sure I can get behind the zombie, but until then I'll stick to Reckoner and some number of Sin Collector as they are better going into a unknown field at this stage.

Why are people not playing Lifebane? That card is too good not to play 4 of.
It's good against decks that RWB is already good against. There are no Thragtusks or Restoration Angels or Huntmasters anymore. The best white and green creatures don't generate tons of value just by hitting the battlefield, they are just efficient beaters and removal is perfectly fine against them.
Also, Thoughtseize is just a generally better card for dealing with cards we don't want to see cast.
Run 4 or run none. Run him with Anger of the Gods or don't run him at all. There is a reason every Rock deck ran 4 of him with literally no exceptions. There is a reason he first showed his power in decks built around Mutilate. An aggro deck can often ignore a lone demon with no support. But an aggro deck can't pay for 2 demons and expect to put up much of a clock. It can't expect to pay for any demons after a wrath. Desecration Demon gets better and better the more copies you play. He gets better and better the more removal you play. He gets even better when you play some wraths. He gets absurd when he also survives those wraths. Play 4 of him and find room for at least 3 Anger of the Gods maindeck and you will not be disappointed.

This is really why LBZ is not finding a home in most lists.
The targets are either white and struggle with Blood Baron, Green and not powerful enough to warrant running LBZ, or neither in which case LBZ might as well just be a 3/1 for 3. I do not value Intimidate that much, while it is a great way to ensure a bit of damage, so is Reckoner.
Thoughtseize is better at stealing the cards LBZ would otherwise be taking and hits more than just creatures or cards of specific colors.
His hand disruption is just not good enough at this time.

Back on the topic of card quality vs quantity, I tested the SCG deck from Gerry T a bit more and really dislike parts of it, specifically the creature and mana base. It did however make me want to take advantage of Read the Bones. This version removes Thoughtseize, Keyrune and Magma Jet, but adds 4x Read the Bones, Mutavault, Chandra and more Dreadbore. It is definitely a change in tempo, but I've been having quite a bit of success. This version only has 5 dead cards vs hard control (3x Anger/2x Mortars).
It feels like we have superior card draw compared U/W/x since they've lost Think Twice. The match is in my favor so far pre-SB which is kinda crazy. It's just a matter of card quality (+ for you w/ Magma Jet, - for them w/ Thoughtseize) vs the card quantity from RtB/Chandra. Both are good, but I feel like this iteration never runs out of gas.
I no longer have a real answer for either AEtherling or Obzedat Game 1. So far, I've been able to win purely by having more cards/options or winning the race. Post-SB I'll have no issues after subbing in 3x Thoughtseize & 3x Slaughter Games. There are so many iterations to test ><.

It is a fialy bold claim to make that people here are not testing cards but even without testing there is analysis you can do. You can look at the mana base aswell as what cards will be in other decks to decude if a card is castabke and worth the slot
