So I have been working my way towards playing legacy having recently acquired several of the cards towards playing Shardless BUG and also have some prior cards that would allow me to switch into deathblade or UWx Blade as well.
I need help in planning what to acquire for the decks over time. My biggest question is what is most likely to go up in price the fastest, such that I would save the most money in my long-term acquisitions.
Here is the list of what I am missing:
Need for just for Shardless BUG:
4x Tarmogoyf
Need for Shardless and UWx Blade:
3x Polluted Delta
3x Flooded Strand
3x Wasteland
3x Underground Sea
2x Tundra
2x Bayou
2x Tropical Island
4x Thoughtseize
Need just for UWx Blade:
1x Karakas
2x Vendilion Clique
1x Force of Will
2x Snapcaster Mage
1x Scrubland
4x Dark Confidant
So to complete Shardless first need:
4x Tarmogoyf
3x Polluted Delta
3x Wasteland
3x Underground Sea
2x Tundra
2x Bayou
2x Tropical Island
4x Thoughtseize
Or to complete UWx blade first need:

4x Thoughtseize

4x Dark Confidant
What would be your recommendation? Right now I am using extra basics and shocks for the duals until I get replacements. I really appreciate the help and look forward to being a member of the legacy community.

I'm not an expert with prices but I've had a little bit of luck in the past with predictions. I'm making the guess that we'll see fetches reprinted sometime after RTR rotates from standard, you can never be sure but, personally I'm waiting on the rest that I want, mind you I have all the ones I need for UWR, I just want black ones now. Duals seem to be fairly stable at the moment, but they'll spike as soon as we see a reprint of fetches, they're always a safe buy and always easy to trade off too, I'd pick what I need of them up probably before the next block comes out. All of the modern staples are probably going to go up for the PTQ season in the summer, people will likely start buying them a little before the season starts so I'd say they're the most likely to go up the most the soonest. I'm not really sure about the rest, wasteland, force and karakas seem to have been really stable, but I guess you never know what's going to happen for sure.
Edit: It could be best to just focus on the cheapest of the decks you want to make first as well. I also noticed that the Legacy staples I was keeping an eye on dropped a little during the modern PTQ season and then went right back up when it was over.
I have been playing magic for about 12 years now with a break during happening after Champions of Kamigawa was released I started playing again a couple months ago. I have a standard deck that I enjoy and in Modern I have messed around a bit but have settled on playing Merfolk. Legacy caught my eye because it seems much more open as a format and honestly seems more fun than modern (due to the format being defined already) and standard (due to rotation). I would really like to take a dip in the format and am torn between making my modern Merfolk into a viable legacy version or trying to make MUD because it looks like a blast to play or building goblins because my favorite deck I have played in magic was onslaught block goblins. So which deck should I play/build?

I'd say the best way to figure that out is to proxy them up and get a feel for them before making a decision for sure, they're all good decks to put money into in my opinion. If I remember Onslaught block goblins right legacy goblins is even more fun to play, and I say that with only ever playing a budget version of the deck.
I have a monored burn deck with Fetches and a Jund with punishing fires in it. I'm going to my first tourney with a friend next month and I am wondering which deck to play there.
I've played the burn deck on MTGO extensively but haven't gotten the best results with it. I always go 2-2 on the daily events, I just seem to lose to RUG Delver too much.
I do have Jund physically but I have not been able to play test it since I don't have many friends with legacy decks. I was able to make the deck with most of the cards from my collection and just had to buy Dark Confidants and Tarmogoyfs.
What tournament is it? Is it one that you reasonably have a chance at winning? Judging from your experience, I'm going to guess no.
If that's the case, play what you think you will have fun with. No reason to pick your best if you won't win either way. If you want to start playing Jund, then start playing it.

I doubt I will win it but I want to get the experience under my belt and not get eliminated in the first game.

Jund has a significantly bigger decision tree and more interaction than burn. You'll probably learn more about other decks through playing jund (targeted discard lets you see the progression of their hand through the game too), which should in turn help how you play burn.
Not to say that burn isn't an option - but I think you'll learn more quickly from a deck with more interactions/information.

It'll be a Swiss system tournament, with plenty of rounds (and then some).
These tournaments are so long, by the end I've known people to be relieved to not have to battle it out in the Top 8. Food looks pretty good after 6 matches that nearly (or actually) went to time.
1) Go to where you wish to play, ask to borrow a deck for the day, if someone does not lend you one I would be shocked. Learn your meta.
2) Build both decks on an online Magic program and test them both, see if you like them or like one more. Test them both against the decks you saw when you played at your local store.
Pick deck and play. This is my honest suggestion or you may end up spending money and regretting it.
I just bought three copies of Dark Confidant today on a whim, due to getting them for $55 a piece mint
I haven't really seen them show up in any major tournaments lately (been checking scg opens and whatnot.) Does anyone know if they still see play at all, and which deck would they best fit into? I wouldn't mind building around them/with them.
Hey folks, some of you know me and some of you don't. Anywho, I've been playing Legacy for little over 3 years now, and I'm debating on switching colors. I have a few decks completely built, but I'm just debating on if switching into a different color would help me feel less bored with what I have.
Currently, I have:
-Merfolk (completed)
-Burn (completed)
-Manaless Dredge (completed)
-Oops! All Spells (Budget options - no LED or Summoner's Pact, completed)
-Belcher (Budget options - no LED or Burning Wish, completed)
-UR Delver (No Fetches, but completed otherwise)
-High Tide (Budget Options - no Candelabra of Tawnos or Fetches, completed otherwise)
That's what I have to work with. As you can see, the color I currently play is Blue. But, I feel like I'm always a day late and a buck short when I play my blue lists (probably because of lack of Fetchlands) and I feel like continuing into Blue is just going to burn my wallet and leave me with an empty feeling when I'm done.
What is your guys' suggestions? Keep with blue, ride out the rough waves and just hope I can save enough/find some deals? or do I swap into a different color with equal trades?

Kind of a toughie. There are a few different things you might do.
1. Proxy different decks and see which one is likely to capture your long-term interest. I too made a ton of combo decks, along with a few others, in my first three years, before I discovered the decks I was always meant to play.
Once you find the right deck, you won't get bored with it.
2. Go to events, bring 'Folk as well as a fast combo deck. Size up the room. Play whichever one is more likely to lead to a win, and use the store credit on fetches and duals.
It seems like your collection might be very well suited to another function as well, bringing players into the format. If you can field multiple discrete decks, with no overlap, it might amuse you to take charge of a minion. I've found it quite rewarding to train an individual to play Burn, then tinker with the list and see how he does. I wouldn't actually want to play it in a sanctioned event myself, but I enjoy seeing someone new to the format do well with it.
Re: Dark Confidant
The most accessible Confidant deck is Deadguy Ale, but that'll still require various fetches and duals to operate. It's a reasonably good deck, but not heavily played and not really Tier 1. It has serious difficulty with heavy control matchups, tribal decks aren't too bad, combo depends on whether they're fast enough to dodge discard and/or bring Leylines of Sanctity. The problem is that it's not really at much of an advantage against other fair decks, like Jund, and Esperblade is pretty much strictly better.
My friend is looking to get into legacy with me for an upcoming tournament about three weeks out. I bought my legacy deck recently as singles, so we have very few extra legacy singles for him to use.
He wants to play UWR Delver eventually, but that would be around 1.7-1.8k for us to get.
Are there any decks that share some similar staples that he can get for this tournament and slowly work his way to Delver? Ideally, around 550 USD is best (ebay prices), but potentially we could spend a little more. We know merfolk shares forces and wastelands, but we were told that it isn't a very strong deck right now. Are there any other decks that will help lead to UWR delver or is this the best it's going to get?

He might be able to make a budget version of UR Delver. Although it's not ideal, you can get away with only one Volcanic Island with that deck, I played the deck with 7 fetches and 1 volcanic for a while and it wasn't that bad, unfortunately with fetches at such a high price it'd make it tight for that budget.

We like that a lot actually. He's considering stretching his budget since the playstyle is potentially similar. Thanks!
Hey people. I actually have a couple decks that I like to play. What I am looking for is what you guys think I could like to play, based on some info about what I like. That way I'm hoping to find a deck that may fit me better, that I haven't tought about, or reinforce my interest in one of the decks I'm thinking about. So here goes:
I started playing MtG in 2011.
I'm definitely a Johnny player.
I identify most with Blue.
I like the control archetype best, but I like aggro and combo too, especially with some elements of a second archetype to make it better equipped or more interesting.
I like to surprise and outthink my opponent.
I like decks and cards that offers multiple challenging choices during a game.
I dislike cards that:
- denies my opponent any fun at all.
- drags the game out almost infinitely.
- do the same thing over and over again, so it becomes boring, annoying or too time consuming.
Some cards I like in each color, off the top of my head:
- White: reveillark, land tax, thalia.
- Blue: brainstorm, fact or fiction, daze.
- Black: cabal therapy, bloodghast, smallpox.
- Red: faithless looting, young pyromancer, seismic assault.
- Green: vengevine, birthing pod, life from the loam.
- Multi: lotleth troll, plasm capture, vindicate.
- Brown: mox diamond, scroll rack, tangle wire.
Some cards I don't like that much:
- winter orb, sensei's divining top, stasis, sinkhole.
I haven't played with all these cards, some of them I just think look cool or boring.
My budget is good, considering that I already have some expensive cards to either use or trade for what I need. Like some Forces, Jaces, Goyves, duals, fetches ++. I'm not looking to invest terribly much more though.
So what do you think? Don't put too much time into analyzing me or whatever, I just thought I'd do a thorough post now that I decided to ask.

Assault Loam or Aggro Loam
Both decks have an aggro plan with Tarmogoyfs/Knight of Reliquaries and they can also take controlling part of the game via Seismic Assault or Devastating Dreams + Punishing Fire. Burning Wish sideboard gives you also pretty wide style of playing.

Thanks for the input! That is one of the decks I've been looking into. It looks intricate to my liking and not too hard to play. The only thing that could be a buzzkill for this deck is diverse GY hate, but with Burning Wish maindeck it should be manageable.
The decks I already have are:
- U/B Tezzeret control
- Dream Halls combo (Mono blue)
- The Gate aggro (Mono black)
I dislike decks that...denies my opponent any fun at all.
Well, Legacy decks mostly fall into two categories. 1. Deny your opponent's gameplan long enough to get them in a corner or 2. win before your opponent can get you in a corner.

When choosing your deck, keep this in mind.
I feel this describes Legacy in a nutshell. Think I'm gunna steal this for a signature quote, if you don't mind x)
I want to eventually get into legacy, and I really want to use the card Nether Void. I tried using a Punishing Jund shell to try and take advantage of the powerful enchantment. Here's what i've come up with. Any suggestions on the deck, or other decks that use Nether Void?

There's a Legacy deck that uses Nether Void. It's called Pox, and while it isn't extremely popular, it is fun if you like denying your opponent the ability to play his cards. Putting Nether Void in Dark Maverick or Jund (two decks your list resembles) doesn't seem like too great of an idea, since you'll often screw yourself out of the ability to play your own cards.

The only time I've been screwed out of casting my cards has been the Punishing Fire, Grove interaction as well as extra Green Sun's Zenith which help me power out Vexing Shushers and Spellbreaker Behemoths. I've also considered dropping the singleton Wall of Roots but I like it as a target for GSZ. As it stands however, the Nether Void is mostly (almost entirely) an symmetrical effect as I can make my spells uncounterable or are already inherently uncounterable. I've been considering filling up my 3 drop spot however, as it is currently entirely empty, with Lilianas, dropping the Punishing Fires. Thoughts?

WUBRG
Thanks for the input! That is one of the decks I've been looking into. It looks intricate to my liking and not too hard to play. The only thing that could be a buzzkill for this deck is diverse GY hate, but with Burning Wish maindeck it should be manageable.
The decks I already have are:
- U/B Tezzeret control
- Dream Halls combo (Mono blue)
- The Gate aggro (Mono black)
When choosing your deck, keep this in mind.
I feel this describes Legacy in a nutshell. Think I'm gunna steal this for a signature quote, if you don't mind x)

Thoughts?
