I expected Chandra to see some play post-rotation, I didn't expect for her to see play in Legacy.
It's funny when life has a pleasant surprise.
We all make mistakes.
Some posters make more mistakes than others.
Well considering Legacy has several competitive monocolored decks, it make sense. I mean, when you can go multicolor everywhere, it make no sense to not play something else, but when u are monocolored, new Chandra's probably the best planeswalker (and definitely the best for non-aggro strats like painterstone) in red. Too bad painterstone is basically impossible to play unless you're rich.
It must be quite embarrassing for a certain poster to read the last page of this thread.
If you are talking about me, not at all. Chandra is still terrible trash.
She saw play in some sideboards. Wow. Someone decided to shove 2 copies in a fringe Legacy deck which had a good day against the meta. Which makes her about as good a card as Death's Shadow or Aluren. That automatically makes her "insane"? Gimme a break.

Painterstone isn't fringe, it's a pretty strong deck. It's severely underplayed because recruiters are more worth than their weight in gold.
This isn't to say that she's good, but in Painterstone she make for a decent JTMS impression.

There's been 6 Painter's Stone decks that placed in the last YEAR of SCG Legacy events. I'm comfortable calling that "fringe". It makes her about as "insane" as Death's Shadow
and Judge Foil Recruiters are $100, less than most of the revised duals.
SGC isn't the only tournament for legacy. If 10 people play painterstone in SGC along the year, you aren't getting 10 top8 placements, it's just statistics. You should look for % penetration but i haven't got the data here. However, i can tell you that Painterstone has placed about 9 times than the most winning archetype of legacy (UGr Threshold has 1270 hits, painterstone about 150 in TC database), it's 8.69 times less common than UGr Threshold to be precise.
I think the deck is played way less than just 8 less times than threshold. Threshold is the most defining deck of legacy and can take 30% or more of a legacy tournament field sometimes. I doubt Painterstone has ever cracked 2%. That should be telling on the penetration% of the deck. The deck is severely underplayed.
As I type this Chandra, Pyromaster is tearing up Modern at GP Detroit in Jund (MD). It is almost anti-climactic to see though, since Valarin is not not here to spin this so that he is still right.
Also, as person that has been playing her in a deck with 8 copies of cards that have Scry 2, I can tell you that she will almost surely see even more Standard play post-Theros because her +0 becomes so much more reliable.

Well if you ult with her and manage to flip Searing Wind then hey shes the card for you but how is the +1 doing any work?
her +0 is nice since it will draw you extra burn spells or whatever but how can she be THAT good?
EDIT: after reading the card again I see that it's actually pretty good
Tons of important 1 toughness creatures in modern like snappy, bob, birds and artifact creatures in affinity. Compare that to standard where everything is bigger then 1 toughness and its basically just a falter effect.

Also, killing X/4's in combination with Lightning Bolt steals games (and X/4's tend to see play in Modern precisely because they dodge Bolt). The blocker stunning also steals the occasional game, especially since Chandra 4.0 is usually fat enough to withstand the swing-back.
Taunting the heck out of normally hard-to-handle planeswalkers like Elspeth, Knight-Errant and Sorin, Lord of Innistrad is also awesome (get them down to their lonely selves and one of their tokens and watch Chandra 4.0 ult in their faces).
2-for-1'ing a player with a Chandra +1 is hilarious (look, both Bob and Liliana of the Veil after -2 or Ajani Vengeant after -2 died).
Her +0 is the real reason to run her...in Jund, at least, where she sees the most Modern play. Jund's tap-out style fits perfectly with Chandra 4.0, so she basically draws a card every turn as long as you keep 2+ mana up and don't make your land drop yet. Drawing into more threats and removal is fun.
Her ult is actually fairly good--I flip triple Bolt more than half the time, and that's often enough to close out games. (I play 4 Lingering Souls with her to up the ult goodness and keep her well-protected, but I heard that the pros don't splash white.)
She protects herself fairly poorly, though, but unlike Phyrexian Arena, at least she sometimes draws a card the turn she ETB, she doesn't slowly try to kill you, she can be cast through Blood Moon (a problem card for Jund), and she can actually kill stuff.

Thanks for posting this when you did. I managed to grab a set before they shot up to ~$20 each. Big Red could be a thing in standard with the new Dragon and Anger of the Gods, then Magma Jet to set up your top card(s). Chandra's pretty much the best in that archetype. The SCG articles on Chandra were good--she's best in midrange that can switch between offense and defense, though Chandra is especially good on the offensive.
Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
redthirst is redthirst, fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse. He was the leader of the Fires of Salvation, the only clan I'm aware of to get modded off the forums so hard they made their own forums.
Degenerate? Sure. Loudmouth? You bet. Law abiding? No ****ing way.
just bought 3 of her, for the preparation of post Theros T2.
my opinion is, she is good to insane depends on the situation, but never bad
+1: use only if they have x/1 or you want to tap their fatty to push damage
0: use this 90% of the situation, so we don't need to use card on our hand
ultimate: well, almost never use this, since 90% of the time i am using the 0
Wizards print good rares, players complain about cash grab. They print underwhelming rares, players complain that the cards suck. They spoil the best cards first, players complain about the insane prices of preorders. They spoil the meh cards first, players complain that this is the worst set ever.
So. I think I understand now.
As far as these forums are concerned, WotC can never do anything good because:
Card that is new and probably good = "pushed"
Card that is new and probably bad = "EDH/casual fodder"
Card that is a reprint = "lazy"
Card that is a better version of an older card = "power creep"
Card that is a weaker version of an older card = "worthless"
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
SCG is overpriced quite a bit... You can get them for ~35$ consistently atm. Not to say that's a low price, it's quite handsomely and proves that she's better than initially anticipated by some.
I never really liked her because I couldn't figure her as a Red Walker due to her second and third abilities being too much Blue in my eyes. But that was more a flavorpoint than a powerlevel-issue.
Considering formats, in Legacy everyone wants to play Blue for their manipulative and card-advantage proficients, and Chandra is a Red wanna-be Blue instance of card-advantage.
He'll no, you helping a mofo out. No of us will learn anything if we never know we were wrong about it. I can't wait to do the same thing to the folks who say Theros/bestow sucks as a whole (I maintain my stance that this set and the mechanics contained within it are damn good design).

A lot of people actually forget she makes it so creatures cannot block.
I watched Reid Duke beat Paul Dean at GP Detroit this way.

She's now the most expensive card in the set on MTGO as well, and is trending up up up there.
Am I a bad person for always doing this?
