It's not a Legendary Creature, and has a generic name, so I have doubts. But Lunar Mystic's flavor text quotes Tamiyo, who worked with Jenrik studying Innistrad's silver moon in his tower. And since surely an Astronomancer would be a blue Human Wizard related to the moon and stars, Lunar Mystic does fit the flavor bill, if not being more "official." I'm not sure.
Makes sense. Although Jenrik was quite famed and feared for his knowledge. Just seemed like Legendary Creature status given the description from the story. While there are other examples of this, as you pointed out, I just find it strange to name a character in a story but give him a generic name on the card supposedly representing him. It's difficult to say if Lunar Mystic is *the* Jenrik himself or just another Astronomancer.
I asked Doug Beyer but I don't know if he'll officially answer.

Welcome to Beyer. He usually avoids any questions detailing story flavor and sticks to vague worldbuilding or trying to be cute and failing.

Tell me about it. I've even asked the question several different ways in which he can be as vague as possible in his answer. But nope. I's strange because he's answered other, more specific questions about future releases that I wouldn't expect him to answer... Ugh so annoying. He won't answer about Theros characters either. So lame man.

It looks as though we are experiencing very similar circumstances. It is a shame that this is the best support we will ever get as fans of the flavor. Makes me want to become a spike instead of a vorthos. Hahah.
Perhaps we should end this conversation here before this becomes a "complain about Beyer" thread.
We do get some info we otherwise wouldn't have and he's doing it on his own time. And he responds more quickly than Brady did.
Oh, no doubt. I respect him for what he's doing. I just wish he took it more seriously, and apparently I'm not alone in that regard. He's playing the safe approach and giving very vague answers/avoiding questions that have anything to do with storylines for fear of cementing something that could be retconned in the future.

He takes it very, very seriously. Which is why he gives vague answers. If he says to much, or the wrong things, he could end up losing his job. And since he, much like MaRo, enjoys working for WotC, he remains cautious in his responses.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
Would be nice if he'd just acknowledge the question I posed. He could be as vague as he wants, but say something... This is like Konami-tier trolling at this point. Could someone with a Tumblr ask MaRo for me please? Just ask if Lunar Mystic is Jenrik the Atronomancer from Innistrad. Simple YN question.

The thing is however, both he and MaRo get literally hundreds of questions each day, and it is quite simply impossible for them to answer each and every one of them.
As for whether or not Lunar Mystic is Jenrik, the answer is quite simple: Lunar Mystic is not a legendary creature, thus it is not a specific named character. Festerwrithe put it quite nicely earlier in the thread. Jenrik is likely a Lunar Mystic, but not *all* Lunar Mystic's are Jenrik.

Right, right. Well, I guess I hope that we'll get a Jenrik Legendary Creature in the future the same way Jeleva was released for the EDH decks. But this seems highly unlikely.

Considering the success of Innistrad, I would like to think it likely that we will return to the plane eventually. And when we do, there is a distinct possibility that some of the named characters that where not killed off in the story will get card representations. Now whether or not Jenrik is one of those characters I, for obvious reasons, do not know.
Alternately, there is always the possibility, as you mentioned, that some of the characters show up in peripheral products such as the commander decks. The odds of this happening has increased considerably now that the commander products are going to be a yearly release. Personally, I am hoping that Fblthp will get a card eventually.

Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir was a disruptive student, but not all disruptive students are Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir. This fellow is probably a Lunar Mystic but he's not the only example of one, just a particularly noteworthy example.
