@Ghosting: Your elaborate schemes and ruses to determine alignments are cool, but you leave the bait in the water too long to be useful.
Makes sense, I definitely saw my scheme start to lack use as much as the day progressed, I just figured it'd be awesome at night to protect Jey and have an auto win tomorrow if Ari ended up town.
What should I have done instead? Just counter claimed ER?
I was mostly mad because I've seen poorly planned and executed gambits sink towns several times and I saw that starting to happen here.
Fair enough, I can see what you mean by that.
Also, if anyone thought be letting Karn die N1 was intentional, it wasn't. I tried to take advantage of it later on by saying that's why we couldn't have a doctor and why ER was lying, but the actuality of it was I was ridiculously busy and by the time I checked the game, night was already over.
I think you should have just CC'd straight up. There's no gain to not doing so, really.
How is there nothing to gain?
I mean, in most cases, sure, there's nothing to gain, but in this situation, I would've lived through the night if Ari wasn't scum and could've protected Jey, resulting in us winning in the hypothetical tomorrow.
Is it standard to just always CC?
I don't mean to come off as brash at all so apologies if I do, actually genuinely wondering these things, still really new to the whole Mafia world.
I've voiced this in the spec chat, but I suppose it's worth saying here:
I really did not like Day 1 of this game for couple reasons. I felt like the Karn lynch got way too personal. There was no need for the constant put-downs in a friendly game. The purpose of that is to break someone down emotionally, and it pretty obviously works on town as well as scum. It just extends past what I feel is necessary or productive. Like, for god's sake, I was scum and arguing against it tooth and claw and the lynch still went through. On that note: I still am a bit troubled by Meg intentionally playing against his win-con on that lynch. It just runs against what feels like good play and good sportsmanship.
The other problem was post-flooding. We hit over 800 posts in Day 1, and a lot of it was crazy spammy. That made it hard to stay engaged with the game and also worked against good town play later on, because it made rereads that much larger of an undertaking.
Props to Jey on the vig on Iso. I feel like we (the scum team) deserved the loss. Iso rode the newer players hard enough that a vig shot was only logical in retrospect if any of them had a shot. I failed to adjust my gameplan to changing situations and didn't trust my gut after Iso died and got properly lynched for it. And Sihhe seemed to have a lot of trouble interacting with the game and getting confidence in playing town as scum.
@Wheat: Thank you for modding the game. All problems aside, I enjoyed myself. I liked how you handled night actions and interacted with the scum team at night. I think that the slow waypoint updates hurt though, and votecounts often were so slow that I started having to maintain my own unofficial votecount. As a less core thing, I've noticed some other games where waypoints to claims were included, and I think that that's a good thing for games like this where the game just gets buried in posts — while some say that it is hand-holding for the players, I think it is just making involvement with the game more natural.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

I KNEW IT. Ghosting I knew it after you wanted to lynch ER. I trusted you and confirmed you town. Without you that ER lynch never would've happened since I was about to believe his doc claim. Good jorb Ghosting.
I knew the scum was going to have a hard time once I shot Iso and took control of the game. I knew Iso was scum pretty early on but I never would've been able to push the lynch without most likely getting hung myself, so I took the law into my own hands. Regarding the vig shot, I have something special to share with you guys - I sent a very intensive Vig PM to Wheat and he sent a good reply back. He told me to share it once the game was over Enjoy!
-Edit: Wheat already posted both PMs. Good thing I read the topic before putting this up.
If anyone remembers me from Famous Historical Figures, I wrote an extensive flavor upon my lynch for fun =) so I thought I'd go through and do the same for this game. Unfortunately I have no final victory flavor to write, but the vig PM I think will suffice as my contribution =D
Megs, I told you I got this~ Ghosting did a lot of work though, without him we wouldn't have lynched ER and he actually sold me on Arianrhod. I had claimed that Arian wasn't a preferable lynch to gauge everyone's reaction. When I realized that the reaction didn't settle, I was pretty convinced that Arian was the last scum and just did a couple checks by making sure the town was on the same page. Parinoid gave me a good scare but his/her head was screwed on too straight to be the last scum, and Zionite had some good replies and Ghosting was confirmed due to ER lynch.
When everyone was lined up to lynch Arianrhod, I couldn't have been more confident. Great game guys, rocky start for the town but we prevailed =D
You did a nice job being obvtown, from what I saw.
Agreed. The implied Doc counter-claim made me REALLY happy =D
---
I caught Iso before you Megs, but you never would've flinging believed me, you were like "omg I really hope you're town Iso" and just sat there with your head between his-- well yeah ;\
I sent a PM to Wheat night 1 that I was going to regret not shooting Iso, but obviously took no action. When AGod was town, I wasn't going to tolerate Iso's BS any longer! And shot him~ Thanks for the MVP request Megs. I gotta admit, if you never had such weird interactions with ER I wouldn't have pressured him so much. After the Doc claim I held back a bit, but after I saw Ghosting's "counter-claim" I was like "HELLLL YEEEEAAAH".
I think you should have just CC'd straight up. There's no gain to not doing so, really.
I saw how hard he implied it though. No biggie. Well, I can't speak for anyone else but as the only confirmed town it was only necessary for me to see it - which is why I wrote down Ghosting as confirmed town in my book.
I am glad that you caught on to ER. I was afraid that nobody would push him after I was dead.
Well, after Iso flipped I made a list of people to attack in order - my goal was to see how each target applied to individual pressure. Xyre responded pretty well, I wasn't perfectly convinced but I felt like I needed to move on. ER was next mostly due to not being very active but after I found your attack and his bizarre replies I was like "yo doubleyou-tee-eff" And then I felt like he was digging himself a hole in his responses to me.
honestly? His VERY LAST reply with the claim at the end made me feel a lot better about him, but then Ghosting nailed his coffin shut for me. I still can't thank him enough for sealing that deal.
I was so mad early D1 for Iso trying to get me killed in an almost vicious sense. Iso and I are BFFs outside mafia and like... This game made me a bit unsettled and that's what originated my suspicion on him - and then his arguments made zero effing sense. Especially after I 180'd on Karn and he didn't give half a flying fornication.
so I shot him~ I haven't let him live it down yet =)
Thanks Ghosting. Thank you for helping me lynch ER and your push on Arianrhod.
I ****ed up really early on day 1 by not unvoting Karn quicker, and then real-life bit me HARD in the ass. ER and Iso were both super obvious about bussing me, but then never actually finished the job -- I didn't really have any illusions that I was going to be able to pull it out in endgame even if I got to it. Too much stacked against me. Like, I was hoping that we were going to lynch Parinoid, then I would NK Ghosting, and it would just come down to whether Jey liked Zionite or me more. Coinflip, but a better chance than we should've had this game.
At least I got a well-timed Grumpycat out of the deal.
@Wheat: Thank you for modding the game. All problems aside, I enjoyed myself. I liked how you handled night actions and interacted with the scum team at night. Good game, town.
One of my failings as a mod: I hate updating waypoints and often forget how long ago I posted a votecount.
Even though I wrote down in a spreadsheet every time that I posted a votecount, it wasn't enough.
@Arian: your biggest tell for me was making a pretty solid case against me and not being more dogged about it. You should have hassled me all game about not answering you, making Jey K more unsure about my towniness. Instead you left us with very few alternatives in the endgame.
But yeah, props to Jey for the great play and Wheat for the excellent hosting. Thanks for another good game!
Good game town, it was a decent read. Compliments on the vig (and vig flavor), Jey.
And thanks a lot Wheat, you got me to play Katawa Shoujo. And...love it? So confused at all these conflicting feels and where they came from... :crying:^_^;:ria::coffee::raise::kank::nod:
"JeY K - Jey is an inexperienced player and I don't expect much from her in regards to analysis. Just let her fumble and stumble about. Probably an easy mislynch."
Thanks Iso ;_; Thanks a whole lot. Except I was PRIMARILY THE REASON THE TOWN WON. So take that =D
I was so mad early D1 for Iso trying to get me killed in an almost vicious sense. Iso and I are BFFs outside mafia and like... Thanks Ghosting. Thank you for helping me lynch ER and your push on Arianrhod.
ER would've been lynched regardless because I would've just CCed if my push on him didn't work, but thank you.
I'm surprised how quickly scum figured out I was the doctor, I guess I should've been posting more? I assumed laying low would've been the best method, but in retrospect, it looks like it hurt more than it helped?
@TMCT: I'm glad to hear I got you to read it. Favorite girl thus far?
So far I've only done Shizune, Emi, and three acts of Lilly. Shizune's probably my favorite girl right now but her route was so incredibly dull for the potential it showed. Loved Emi's route, largely because I'm a terrible person who railroaded himself into her bad ending by being "me," which struck me harder than I thought anything from Katawa Shoujo would. The first three acts of Lilly's route were okay, I guess.
It's definitely a flawed game but it kinda surprised me. Makes me want to give VNs another try.
A mixture of laughter and sadness from reading the spectator chat; honestly, it was really funny, but it sucks realising how poorly I played.
I feel the need to explain a few things.
I protected parinoid because I had a very strong town read on him and figured scum wouldn't target Jey; they assumed we had a doctor and I was sure of that, so they'd rather target someone they know they could actually kill, thus making it unnecessary for me to protect Jey.
I intentionally tried to play poorly enough for scum to keep me alive, but town enough for town to not ever actually lynch me.
Me saying we should parinoid on the last day was just to see reactions to make sure I was right in lynching Arian, then I just went and found the Iso thing to hopefully make his lynch more obvious because it wasn't catching on fast enough and I was relatively confident he was scum.
Me not CCing doctor was in case we were wrong in Arian so I wouldn't die at night. I assumed parinoid would die, I'd protect Jey, then we'd just lynch Zionite. Ari turned up scum though, so that was unnecessary.
Me typing Ari instead of Arianrhod wasn't to try to repeat the voet thing from House, obviously that didn't work out, I had and have no plans of repeating it, it was just because it's so much easier than typing out his full username.
Ghosting, the problem is that you actually telegraphed your role to the scum team on Day 1. Like, I ****ed up with my claim and claimed a known CC-able role because we already had you pegged as the doc.
The continued refusal to answer questions of almost any kind actually set you up as a possible mislynch.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Should I have stood out more, then?
Here's the excerpt from my first post of N1 scum chat:
I've got a pretty strong hunch that Ghosting is a PR. My guess is doc or similar protective role. He's been very specifically trying to not step on any toes and not have an opinion that will get him shot. Offensive roles in 12-man basics normally aren't strong enough to warrant going so hardcore "don't shoot me".
You were trying so hard to avoid stepping on any toes, that it made it clear that you had a reason not to. If you're really powerful PR like doc, you might not want to go whole hog on the analysis, but you shouldn't step so far back that it's obvious that you have something to hide.

@Karn: "Can anyone explain to me why my play was apparently super scummy? No one in the game could give me specifics."
I was trying to clear you so hard, but since #75 was still ongoing I couldn't reference it at all. Iso and I talked about that and he knew i was trying to prove your innocense though ir but I didn't want to get modkilled. When I did a complete 180 on you, don't take it personally, but it was a gambit to confirm my read on Iso. I felt really bad but I also felt it was necessary to get a grasp on the game. getting Iso lynched would've been impossible so I had to make sure my shot would going to hit scum. Sorry Karn
If #75 was over I was going to fight SO HARD to get you cleared as town. Trust me. I really wanted to. It probably would've worked too =\

Big wall of text of me replying to various stuff in spectator chat:
"Jey for Town MVP baised on that reaction to Flip alone."
Thanks Rancid Raptor I thought it was a great opening =D
--
"yo jey i was right about EVERYTHING
just sayin"
You weren't about Karn or AGod, but I'm reading now thaty you knew he was town and that just makes me more frustrated. To be honest, I knew you were town Megs becuase you couldn't be scum with Iso and Iso was the scum in the pairing between you two.
"Wait, so now jey is faking a shot on a multiple kill Night?
Please. Time 2 lynch."
no? What drugs are you on?
"Jey was the Sherlock to my Mycroft this game and therefore deserves MVP."
Thanks Megs -blush- =D

"Xyre: Hold up a sign that reads "Help" as he meets his end in a cartoonish action (succeeds)"
I lol'd
---
"Then perhaps Teh "I'm confirmed town" Jey?"
You knew my old name? 0.o
"I'm also rather unaccustomed to fending off bull-rushes akin to Jey's one on me prior to my bad claim. What can I improve on there? Jey seemed to be about to back off from my defense prior to the claim, but I don't know that that actually means I conducted a good defense."
You were still scummy but I felt stronger about Arianrhod at that point, reading that post. The the doc claim blew all of that right out of the water =P
---
"Game related: Nooooo JeY. Wut r u doing"
"Well, Jey apparently never wanted to lynch Arod, and was just fishing for people's reactions. she secretly wanted to lynch Xyre"
My claiming of putting Arianrhod off my lynch table was the part where I fished for reactions; I was still down to lynch Arian regardless (and even preferably so). My instinct wasn't working too particularly well at that time so I wanted to be extra careful. Like, EXTRA careful.
"if jey didn't actually want to lynch arod, town's chances just got a lot worse."
nah I assumed we were going to lynch Arian no matter what.
"Yeah I was just realizing that.
I reaaally though that jey was ready to finish this but apparently not. Other than Zionite the rest of the town is just running around aimlessly, and Zionite has been enough of a non-presence this game that he doesn't really have credibility.
eugh."
"This is almost painful to watch."
I'm sorry guys! I really meant it when I said my instinct wasn't working well! Arianrhod was never free from getting lynched I swear! =( I was just taking thigns SUPER SLOW and SUPER CAREFULLY to make sure everyone that wasn't Arian was town! I'm serious ;_; Maybe I should've just went 'well Arian was my original lynch target anyway why not lol'. Maybe.
"What are the chances Jey actually goes after Arian?"
Very high =D I was just biding my time to be 500% sure.
"arian doesn't deserve to win this game.
sadly, neither does our current town."
>_> Hey. I was doing my best. Sorry for derping but I was so scared. Shouldn't have second-guessed myself.

Thanks Wheat =P I was having a rough time on the last scum.
-blush- (I hate emotes so I'm doing that instead)
---
Great game~ Whew. I'm sorry Xyre for tunneling you because of my dream =)
¤.†.¤ The OceanLink ¤.†.¤
I saw how hard he implied it though. No biggie. Well, I can't speak for anyone else but as the only confirmed town it was only necessary for me to see it - which is why I wrote down Ghosting as confirmed town in my book.
¤.†.¤ The OceanLink ¤.†.¤
You did an awesome job.
¤.†.¤ The OceanLink ¤.†.¤
I was so mad early D1 for Iso trying to get me killed in an almost vicious sense. Iso and I are BFFs outside mafia and like... This game made me a bit unsettled and that's what originated my suspicion on him - and then his arguments made zero effing sense. Especially after I 180'd on Karn and he didn't give half a flying fornication.
so I shot him~ I haven't let him live it down yet =)
Thanks Ghosting. Thank you for helping me lynch ER and your push on Arianrhod.
¤.†.¤ The OceanLink ¤.†.¤
At least I got a well-timed Grumpycat out of the deal.
It was great, MVP for that alone.
Experiments Series: #5 (Courtly Intrigue Mafia) | #4 (Drunken Tracker) | #3 (Big Red Button) - coming soon | #2 (Pope Mafia) | #1 (Iso's Inflammable Mafia)
Mini Games: MTGS Mafia Redux II (Invitational, Evil Mirror Universe) | Unreal City
Old Games (bad): The Greenwood Affair | Blood Moon Mafia
One of my failings as a mod: I hate updating waypoints and often forget how long ago I posted a votecount.
Even though I wrote down in a spreadsheet every time that I posted a votecount, it wasn't enough.
But yeah, props to Jey for the great play and Wheat for the excellent hosting. Thanks for another good game!
That last day was all kinds of fun.
And thanks a lot Wheat, you got me to play Katawa Shoujo. And...love it? So confused at all these conflicting feels and where they came from... :crying:^_^;:ria::coffee::raise::kank::nod:
Also I have a feeling that people forgot about this: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showpost.php?p=10385073&postcount=20
Also no links to scum/spectator chat? I at least want to read spectator =(

^Scum chat.
Thanks Iso ;_; Thanks a whole lot. Except I was PRIMARILY THE REASON THE TOWN WON. So take that =D

EDIT: @TMCT: I'm glad to hear I got you to read it.
The continued refusal to answer questions of almost any kind actually set you up as a possible mislynch.

Should I have stood out more, then?
You basically didn't participate past CCing ER.
I wouldn't let that be indicative of how you played - I am just exceptionally good at sniffing out PRs.

Here's the excerpt from my first post of N1 scum chat:
You were trying so hard to avoid stepping on any toes, that it made it clear that you had a reason not to. If you're really powerful PR like doc, you might not want to go whole hog on the analysis, but you shouldn't step so far back that it's obvious that you have something to hide.

It probably would've worked too =\
---
What saved him (and the rest of town by getting you lynched) was me catching the implied CC almost right away.
---
Big wall of text of me replying to various stuff in spectator chat:
---
"Xyre: Hold up a sign that reads "Help" as he meets his end in a cartoonish action (succeeds)"
I lol'd
---
"Then perhaps Teh "I'm confirmed town" Jey?"
"jey also needs to stop being bad"
"I claim all credit for this win."
you weren't the vig. Stfu.

You and Meg have now both said you only lynched me because you thought Iso was scum (but didn't want to say it out loud). I also thought Iso was scum.
So most of my wagon turns out to be people who thought I was town...
Why didn't we just lynch Iso?
We'll try that next time.

Ghosting was a non-entity. We were better off killing an analyst at that point in the game.
