I used to complain about legacy prices a long time ago, but recently I buylisted my standard deck (esper control), and other cards that I wasn't using, and managed to put together a RUG delver deck. It's the same list that won an SCG Open a few weeks ago. Having a job helps too (even though it's minimum wage). I got $1400 credit from Channel Fireball and only had to spend about $400 on the rest of my deck (already had the fetches, and had to buy three Stifles, two goyfs, and a few small cards).
If you play standard, stop playing for a while, and save money for legacy. Standard cards fluctuate a lot, and usually drop before rotation. If a card isn't being played while it's in standard, it will drop unless it's also played in other formats. Legacy cards just keep going up. If you don't buy the cards now, you're going to regret it later like I did.
Two months ago, you'd be lucky if you found a FoW for $70. Now they regularly go for $55 on eBay. Is this a good time to get my set or should I wait and hope they keep going down?

It's the typical up/down swing of cards through the year. I'd pull the trigger at anything below $60 if you're waiting on FoW's personally; but you have to set your own budget goals and considerations. They're extremely unlikely to hit $50 unless you're buying beat up/played condition.

Trade thread under reconstruction. Because you can't spell slaughter without laughter.
Trying to find a couple copies of Misdirection is insane. SCG only has MP in stock, TCG sellers are a similar case (I can find one or two LP on TCG, but that's always a crap shoot).
Is it just demand from people wanting to run it in Sneak and Show (seeing lots of lists with one-of main deck), or have I missed something else popular that runs it and accounts for the lack of supply?
Only a couple of Legacy decks play it as a 1-of. I guess it's popular in EDH too. But the main reason for scarcity should be that it is a Rare from an old underprinted big expansion. Same with Rishadan Port, the demand doesn't fully explain its huge price.
I picked up Misdirection in the summer of 2012 for around 12$ a card prior to the existence of Abrupt Decay. Rishadan Port sees a price increase due to DnT being a popular choice, although I picked up Ports for Lands way cheaper than the median tcg player price of 64$ or so. Speculation is driving some of these prices higher right now.
tarmogoyf should be banned restricted in all formats
and yes i am ONLY saying that because i traded 6 for a white akroma BEFORE it went up in value and i was new to magic
i remember when goyf was LAST pick in our drafts (and also being new to magic i lost most of drafts and ended up with a lot of goyfs)
if i had a time machine i would go back and order 100 goyfs from starcity when they were one USD
and on a side note, every deck runs force of will and this uncommon is 60 dollars. WHY
i dont think every format should be play X, X and X to win, and X, X and X cost 20-100$ a card
i have spent a lot of money on cards in the past as i owned all of the dual lands at one point
(just recently sold a unlimited underground sea and tundra)
and every legacy deck requires 4 force of wills.
i feel like this game needs more diversity
(and i don't care how wrong i am, i read the title of the thread this is all opinion)
also goyf isnt better than any other creature IMO (not even mad)
EDIT: it seems to me like force of will is played in every legacy deck

Force of Will is played in ~55-60% of Legacy decks. The rest is your opinion, and you're entitled to that, but you're not entitled to your own facts.
Need TNN for my UR Delver but not sure about buying them right now. Will wait to see if it gets banned.
I think you're pretty safe to buy them, if you're worried about them getting banned. Maybe I'm just not seeing something, but it hasn't torn the format apart yet, and I believe that as long as we have LotV and the sort, we will be safe from TNN.
I would only be worried about them going down slightly, as Wizards has announced this will not be a limited print, and they will most likely keep putting these on shelfs.
EDIT: it seems to me like force of will is played in every legacy deck
Well, if you don't want to do any actual research to guide your impressions, you could at least have your Ouija board serviced - I don't think it's working properly.

Have you read the complaints about TNN?
I have read the complaints. I hate the card. It has no flavor and I wish they never printed it. However ChaosJace never mentioned TNN in his post.
Legendary rule change makes it favorable to run in multiple copies + elves being well positioned as they gained a whole turn (or two) while increasing deck efficiency from craterhoof behemoth.
That makes sense I guess. What about Wasteland though? It's slowly been rising and is about the same price of FoW now.
In the legacy meta, not many basics are played anymore. At most, you will probably see 6 basics, and about 11-14 non-basics. It's a win-win pretty much.
I've seen it questioned in the past in this thread, but I've yet to really come to a conclusion on this Rishadan Port nonsense.
For some context, I started building Death and Taxes last August and I believe the price was approaching something like 65-70 dollars. Now, some places are pushing 70-80.
I'm literally so close to finishing the deck too. I only need 2 Rishadan Port, 3 Wasteland, and 3 Karakas, but those 8 cards are nearly going to kill me in terms of their price tags. I really want to get into the legacy scene, but I feel like I can't because I'm missing the vital parts of this deck.
What I don't understand is why Port has gone up so drastically. TNN is basically wrecking/racing creature decks right now, and DnT/Goblins/Lands are the only legacy decks that play Port. Does anyone think that with the shift in the meta, this land will go back down? I really don't want to spend so much money on the last 2 ports I need just to finish the playset.

I kind of feel like most of the people that play those 3 decks play them regardless of their current positioning, I don't think port will drop all that much but you never know, I guess there's probably a lot of new people to DnT that might drop the deck once it starts doing worse.
DnT, Goblins and Lands are decks that people are going to play regardless of the meta. I have an attachment to my Goblins that comes from playing them since 2003/4. No matter the changes to the Meta I will play that deck. Lands is the same for many people. If you own it then that deck is a point of pride. DnT is becoming like Goblins for some.
Does anyone think that with the shift in the meta, this land will go back down?
No. I actually think those decks will do fine in the evolving meta, but even if they don't I can't see it going down. It's a very old card, and WotC may well never print this (or anything remotely as good at what it does) in a standard legal set. Only if Legacy as a whole loses popularity and all staples drop will you see thgis significantly cheaper than it is now. I guess if it's printed as a promo or something it might go down a little, but by then it might have already gone up a lot!
It sucks about the price barrier. I hope you can get in soon somehow and that you love the format!
Cards tend not to drop in price that much for several reasons. Both players and collectors don't like to sell at a loss, and in an eternal format, simply waiting is almost always a defensible option.
Patience is the key to this format. Now and then, great buying opportunities come up. A few years ago, around the dawn of the Modern format, one might have noticed that Scalding Tarn and Misty Rainforest could be had for $15. Back then, Rishadan Ports were rotting on shelves, it was early in the Maverick Summer and Goblins was just starting to come back. New players in the Goblins thread were asking whether the card was even necessary. Builds with Sol lands were posted. Someone even responded that Rishadan Port "...had seen better days." My LGS dropped their price on Rishadan Port to below $20, and my store credit found something worth cashing in for.
Most Legacy players have been playing for longer than I have, and can tell stories of far more economical (or disastrous) purchases. My point isn't to reminisce about the Summer of Maverick (boss as it was), it's to bring up a historical example of a buying opportunity.
Today, I note that quite a few Legacy playables are being used in Standard, set to rotate out next fall. In a couple of months, Deathrite Shaman and Mutavault will probably fall to historical lows. Cards on the banned list (that might come off) are a reasonable speculation. An unban on Black Vise, Mind Twist, or Frantic Search would precipitate a huge spike.

I sort of agree with this but I also believe if a player has been playing the game for over 10 years mostly they are not selling their cards.

I sort of agree but I disagree too. I'd never seen ports under 20 dollars even when the card was type 2.
And usually the prices of cards were hinged upon the cards in extended format. I believe Dual lands were at the most 15 dollars a pop during the extended days, when DCI finally rotated Dual's from extended and before 1.5 became the new Legacy. Dual lands dropped from 15 dollars to 5 dollars a pop. I dont think this will ever happen again because Modern doesn't rotate cards out and Legacy has been accepted as one of the better formats in Magic.

I'm not sure, I was pleased to pick up a playset of Arid Mesa for 10 dollars each a few years ago but the cards are 30 dollars a each and I have my doubts that the price is going to drop.

The big problem with Legacy playables is that most are also modern playables and modern doesnt rotate.
Sure you can buy black vise, mind twist and frantic search but I dont see any of those cards ever coming off the legacy ban list.
As a collector - I'm pleased to see how much of an increased my dual lands.
As a player - I'm also annoyed by the increased prices of dual lands... although I'm more annoyed by the increased price on fetchlands since fetchlands allow the players to lower the number of duals in their decks. I've wanted to get a playset of Scalding Tarn but I cannot justified myself in spending 50 dollars each for a playset. Especially when I have no interest in playing in a tournament and if I do I would play straight burn instead of delver.
I also have my doubts that Scalding Tarn will drop in price.
