Searing BloodRR
Instant (U)
Searing Blood deals 2 damage to target creature. When that creature dies this turn, Searing Blood deals 3 damage to that creature's controller.
Purphoros' blessing: sometimes a boon, sometimes a bane. Always ablaze.
Sadly an even worse mainboard card than searing blaze was (it only required to have a creature, didn't have to kill it), but a great sb card against agro matchups. I like it.
This card will be the worst rare in RTR and less remembered than skaab ruibator in three months. It struggles to be on the same power level as mass of ghouls, even in limited.
That its not simply "not good enough for competitive", or underpowered. But that this is offensively bad, the real stinker tier.
Still, my best evaluation is that its approximately on the same power level as a 4/4 for 4 vanilla beater.
That is an exceptional burn spell. 2 toughness is starting to look like a bit of a sweet spot, and the 3 damage will be great for aggressive decks. I think controlling decks will move towards Magma Jet, but aggro decks will love this.

Uh....I don't know about you, but there are quite a bit of 2 toughness guys around. I mean, Pharika's Cure is a thing...

Making that land drop could be problematic in the mid or late game depending on the deck.
I have gotten hit for 1 with Searing Blaze multiple times because the guy got tired of holding it waiting for another land drop. In a world where every time you play Searing Blaze you have a land drop available this card is pretty much worse.
Searing Blaze returns, replacing the landfall condition with needing to be able to kill a smaller creature. Seems like a fair trade-off in a format where Last Breath is considered good removal.
This is seriously decent for an aggro deck. Possibly SB only, since it only really shines in matchups against small creatures but it is really good in those matchups. More midrangey decks probably prefer Shock or Magma Jet.
that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur
Considering that in Burn you often choose between casting a Lightning Bolt on a */2 or less creature as removal or on the opponent, I'm in love with a card that hits both spots. This works on many, many of the most played creatures in Modern and Legacy and has potential to be great card advantage.
Will definitely be trying this out in my modern R/B burn deck. Could be very useful against decks like affinity that run lots of small creatures, or basically anything that runs Deathrite Shaman.
TRY TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS MODERN SCUM MUHAHAHAHH! i like it

I find the slow pace games fun so if im not playing EDH im going Control. Unless I'm actually trying to win and not have fun then i go super hyper agro

But yes, this card is the most exciting card for Modern and Legacy from this set so far. I can see several strategies running this in the sideboard. Searing Blaze was always awkward because it needed landfall and it need two targets. This doesn't need landfall and is only dead on an empty board.

Pharika's cure is definitely a thing, in the sideboard like this card. Searing Blaze was bad vs creatureless decks, this is also bad vs decks without 2 toughness creatures to kill. Against Esper you can hope they play a Elspeth I guess.
Good thing is it goes through leyline of sanctity, unlike searing blaze.

For what it's worth, the opposite of evergreen is "deciduous" so I suggest we start using that from now on to refer to shroud, banding, islandhome, etc.

I think this replaces Magma Jet in mono-red midrange decks.

..not really. Why waste a Bolt (even though it is half as costly) on killing it when this kills it AND still bolts them?
