Welcome to [The Family]: a clan comprised completely of Mafia players. It's a place to cool off between the cut-throat games, a place to rest and relax with reduced chances of getting stabbed in the back, a place to viciously haunt those that killed you, and a place to complain about long nights.
If you want to join us, just make a post and say hello. You don't even have to play mafia! (Although, that is recommended...) We have a totally open door friend policy, so anyone can pop their head in and try to not have it cut off!
This is also the place where you can ask anything Mafia-related. (Formerly the Mafia Theory and Discussion thread)
Keep in mind, asking about something from a current game is illegal EVEN IF YOU ARE DEAD IN THE GAME, and could get your playing priveleges suspended for a while.
Ex: Do not ask "I am the doc, and I protected MrJohn. If he is attacked by both the mafia and the sk, will he die?"
Ask "Does a doctor protection generally prevent two killing attempts against the target?"

KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
You should probably update the active player list. A lot of those guys haven't really posted in a while.
Also, you should probably leave the old Discussion thread stickied so people can find it. Or do locked threads automatically unsticky?
While I agree with this, one of the reasons Az wanted the Theory thread to become the [The Family] thread was because "too many stickies" or something like that. I dunno. We're figuring it out.

Or maybe we could have someone go through the Theory thread and condense it to an article. Like everything discussed and make a list or something.

Along the same lines as this, would anyone be interested in me making kind of a "Mafia Guide" and condensing it to an article? Mafia is pretty difficult to learn and there's a bunch of good theory concepts that's regulated to old games or old QTs that could be given time in the spotlight.
I've been considering writing an article for a while but actually haven't started it yet.

For my own sanity, I have kept the ones that haven't posted in the clan thread but probably will now that it has the theory and discussion thing here too in the members list.
I'd like your advice on something, being the resident mafia experts. I'm going to be running an In real life Mafia game. I have previously done so on one occasion before, though that was only two games for seven people, and one game for nine people.
I used the roles of Godfather/Roleblocker for Mafia, and 3x Vanilla Town with cop/doc for Town, with an extra Vanilla Town and a Serial Killer added for the nine-player game.
I'm expecting between 12-15 for my next few games, and I was wondering, what roles would you guys suggest for me to expand the setup with? Right now I just use playing cards to denote roles, with a cheat sheet to explain how the roles work. Once we hit 12, should I just add a third mafia (vanilla mafia) and a one-shot vig and another VT?
Is there any specific setups you guys think would be manageable for IRL which are a bit more complex?
@WoD: Have you considered Masons? They're usually pretty easy to pull off IRL. And, of course, the Vengeful Townie, who takes a player down with him when he's lynched. Not sure how you want to balance that out, but do remember that IRL games are definitely more scumsided due to the lack of analysis that occurs during the game.

How do you figure that Masons would be easy IRL? It's difficult to allow them to talk at Night due to the fact that it would reveal their roles, given that everyone else would be there. Vengeful could be good.
@Iso: You are wrong! IRL mafia usually has analysis, but it's different from internet-mafia, since you can't make vote count analyses or ISO anyone's posts. Instead, reading people, looking for reactions and listening carefully what they are saying are much more important and looking if someone is opportunistically jumping wagons. Also, when mafia flips, look on everyone who was NOT voting for them...

Masons IRL just means they're confirmed to each other.

Hey everyone, which of you pipe hitting *****es wants to pass me the mashed potatoes?
I had a theory question that was redirected here: In your opinion, what day is apporopriate to lynch lurkers at in a standard game (so 16+) people? I remember games a couple years ago where games would just stagnate and it always felt like no one wanted to ever go after the guy posting once ever other day, and not posting anything relvent (but not posting scummy either)?
I'm personally fine with lurker lynching any Day past Day 1.
Day 1 is the most important Day for interactions to take place, and ideally I'd want people to commit to opinions and lynches on that Day. It's also a goldmine for rereading. If I, say, lynch a scum lurker Day 1, you do get some benefits (you lynched scum, yay) but you also get less interactions to pin down the rest of the scum team with. I've played a number of games where we lynched scum Day 1 but couldn't derive anything from the interactions, then we mislynched a couple of times and lost.
Relating to the subject, though, I'd always prefer to vig lurkers as opposed to lynch them. Day 2/3 I might be more focused on people that I think are scummier, for instance.
I kinda disagree with this thread being the new thread for mafia theory / discussion. There are some people who don't wish to participate in clans, and this thread seems hard to find from the main mafia board. Just throwing out my opinion.
I feel like Days 2/3 are the best for taking out lurkers, whether through lynching or Vigging. You have wagons to analyze and, as Proph said, Day 1 is a thing. It's best not to go for lurkers in later days - though I have a policy that "if no one looks like a great lynch for the Day, look into the lurkers". This was especially true in Amistarian III, when the endgame was Zionite, fadeblue, Axelrod, PopeRonPaul, Cyan, Taredas, and myself, and everyone had townie and scummy moments to their play. However, Axelrod and fade were pretty much only poking their heads in to angrily defend themselves and then lurking again - so while PRP wanted to lynch Zionite, I believe Zi, Cyan, and I finally convinced him to lynch fade and Axel - who were the last two remaining scum. (That may not be exactly how it went, but it's a fine example of when to lynch lurkers.)
