i just randomly stumbled upon this combo and relized it worked pretty well. Grinning Ignus+Brighthearth Barrent+Grapeshot= infinte damage?
it seemed pretty good, and getting 2 2cc elemental out by turn 3 or 2 is really easy in this format. I splashed blue because in red there is just not enough digging to consistantly get the combo by turn 3-4.
(the secret tech is if you have 2 bannerets, thats infinite mana, so you can mind spring for 40, grab your grapeshot then kill them)
You can only bounce and replay the Ingus as many times as you have red mana in your pool. The Banneret only reduces the cost of colorless mana and it takes 2 R to play and bounce and each bounce only PRODUCES one R.
First of all, nice deck, and clever trick, it seems more reliable than Redstorm.
I've 2 cards to suggest:
1) Rite of Flame: same purpose that SSG, speeding up things
2) Pact of Negation: Protect Grapeshot when playing it, it'd be terrible to take a counter on it.
this is the second deck attempting to use ignus and banneret for infinite storm/mana that i dont see happening.
isn't this the scenario?
- banneret reduces the cost of ignus to 1R
- pay R to return ignus to hand, floating 2r
- pay 1r to recast ignus, 1 floating.
- 1 colorless mana wont be able to activate ignus' ability.
or:
- 2 bannerets reduce the cost of ignus to R
- pay R to return ignus to hand, floating 2r
- pay r to recast ignus, 2 floating.
- 2 colorless mana still wont be able to activate ignus' ability.
i've commented before to that deck with pretty much the same play by play list. why is the combo up again? what am i missing here? really just want to know and see how the deck works. because i looked at all the cards on the decklist, and it really doesn't work.
ya, as said before, it doesnt work unless you have a red mana converter. sorry, i had that idea WAY before with Cloud Key and othere tech and then i was enlightened i didnt produce enough R.

Well, you could certainly do it in casual if you splash green for Skyshroud Elf. That lets you convert the colorless to red mana so you can go infinite. And the elves are low cc, so it should still be fairly consistent.

Beat dragonstrom. drew lucky hands and could go of a turn before he did.
Against Doran. Won 1 game then just coulndt draw the ignus the second and the grapeshot the thrid
Against {elves, merfolk, zombies and pickles)
beat em all, comboed on turn 3 on like 5 games and turn 4 the rest =)
any thoght?
but why go blue w/o some more big diggers like ancestral vision, jace, or careful consideration?
another way to go would be black: lilliana vess, diabolic tutor, demonic collusion can all get you the last piece you need.

2 Brighthearth Banneret + 1 Grinning Ignus = infinite mana.
a) + Desintegrate = infinite damage. (maybe an alternate win condition to Grapeshot).
b) + Mind Spring = infinite cards
These are just some ideas though.
