I just noticed that my friends and I managed to sneak into a feature match picture.
Anyways, I was only able to watch the final game of the finals, and I noticed all kinds of mistakes on both players parts, but I can't argue with results, especially when I'm the bystander that can see both players' hands.
As for Faeries now not being the best deck in the format talk, I believe that they may still be the best, but they'll likely be played in lower percentages.

I'm predicting that Elves are going to put up a big showing at the PT.
Faeries will do fine, and take multiple T8 slots, but I'm predicting it isn't actually going to win.
Well, I was right about elves winning, but I really didn't expect faeries to put up only person into the T8. Hooray to America for winning, and a Floridian no less!
Anyways, I really liked Zvi's deck. It just seems very powerful, shame that he didn't make T8.
I too am thankful that faeries lost, and for those stating "oh its still the best and it lost due to luck" how about you wake up and smell what you're shovelling?
Faeries are the most popular, there is no denying that therefore in greater numbers people will assume that it is the best deck..
At my regionals I had to face against 3 faerie decks with me playing MBC, I won one, I drew one and I lost one, therefore my odds of winning were 50%.

I wouldn't say so much that it lost to luck, but that it lost because almost EVERY deck in the field other than Faeries was targeting Faeries. This let the Revelark decks get into the finals. Also, I don't think there was very much X/G big mana decks, the bane of any agro deck, including Elves.

Well, that's not particularly good. You came up with 4 of a possible 9 points from those 3 matches. Generally, you would want a deck equipped with a high enough win percentage (in the matchup, at least) to take 6-7 points against the most popular deck in the format.

If anything, I would much rather play Faeries now than I would three days ago. Before Hollywood, everybody was out to get Faeries, Faeries, Faeries. Obviously, people are still going to be out to get the best deck in the format, but I'm assuming most players are going to start dividing more attention amongst various other decks after this less than stellar performance for faeries.
The SCG results were really bloated to the point that it looked scary, so many were under the impression that Faeries might be too powerful. Faeries obviously isn't "affinity", but that doesn't change the fact that it is still the best deck in the format.
I am glad Elves won it.. It was a good top8, It suckes that Nakamura didn't win the whole thing.. I was rooting for him. I must say tho my brackets said that Merfolk would win.. I didn't think Gindy's Elf deck could punish Merfolk as bad as it did. Most of the decks that top8'd were WACKY due to the need to beat faeries metagame. PV and Nakamura in the finals would of been nice.. but of course they were paired in the quaterfinals. Overall Great Tournament.. Some new decks evolved from the tournament and we have a pretty good idea of what Regionals is going look like. Mihara lost weight? lolz Last time I saw him was at worlds 06' and he was chubby.. it looked like he had lost weight...So what do you guys think of Wafo-Tapa's list?
Wafo-Tapa is someone whose brain I need to steal, and whose manabase I also need to steal. The deck itself is interesting, but I don't feel that it's optimal. I am tremendously excited at the prospect of Domain in T2 again, though.

QFT.
The Reveillark decks were just there to beat everything else, bringing it to the top. People were more unprepared for lark.
yeah, a bunch of people said their deck's worst match up was lark, and Lark piloted by Yong would have won if not for some atrocious draws on his part, but hey, its magic, thats what happens.
I really like Shuhei's Sideboard, seems very interesting to me.
Here is my little prediction. The "anti-faerie" tech will be Faeries. The big twist is it will be BR faeries. Burn plus evasion with an aggressive curve and blossom for the late game grind. Romps on the mirror and is fast enough to beat anything. It is not exactly a tribal deck, but there are enough faerie cards to call it "faeries".

You probably mean B/R Rogues featuring a lot of Faeries right?
But seriously, this is the guy who had the cahones to take Snakes to .ca nats... and he takes a boring deck like Mono Red to the tour? Sometimes I hate my fellow countrymen.

How come do you know what deck he played?
Anyway, you should be proud that he had a money finish instead of dissing him on his deck choice.

The interesting thing about us legacy players is that we consider Force of Will, Dark Ritual, Blood Moon, Tarmogoyf and Swords to Plowshare to be fair.
Does anyone have the decklist that Chapin was using? I am interested to see what his secret tech was that failed him.
Chapin played a Project 420.5n/Reveillark hybrid deck. From the day 1 metagame breakdown:
"Rounding out the assortment of oddball decks was Worlds finalist Patrick Chapin’s concoction played by himself and a few of his Livonia, Michigan teammates. The deck featured Bonded Fetch, Careful Consideration, and other draw/discard effects to abuse the interaction between Greater Gargadon and creatures with persist (most notably Murderous Redcap and Kitchen Finks). A timely Body Double or Reveillark could create mounds of card advantage and steal games."

The moral of this story is, in my eyes, that the Commands are the strongest spells in Standard next to Bitterblossom.
Cryptic, Profane, and Primal Command were winning games left and right, turning losses into wins and just dominating.
These cards are simply amazing, especially blue & black.
I'd come to the same conclusion. Primal Command is quickly becoming my favorite, giving me 7 life in most situations in addition to tutoring a creature or doing half a Plow Under to slow down aggro. In certain situations, it can even be a Deglamer on a troublesome noncreature if necessary. There just aren't many situations when I have 5 mana and am unhappy to draw it.
Profane and Cryptic are also some of my favorite cards in the format, but they're much more played, so we all know about that.

The white one and red one are decent for block constructed, but in standard they're useless indeed. I don't know what it's priced at, but the green one used to be a dollar rare. Nutz nontheless.

MOTL has it at about $2, and I've picked an additional playset up partially because I think it'll jump, and partially because I think it's a solid card for Regionals, where you'll typically play/see a lot of midrange decks.

yeah, I think thats why the quick n toast decks got knocked out early, they have terrible MUs against lark according to the deck designer.

WotC put the Day Two decklists up either during the Gindy-Ruess final or just after.
