Alright, so the rotation is coming around in October, I think, and it's time for me to trade off my Timespiral cards for Lorwyn staples so that I don't lose net trade value. Sometimes I consider trading like managing a stock portfolio.
So what Timespiral rares do you think should be traded away soon, as they will lose significant value? Here're some I'm thinking about:
1. Damnation; Not really played in T2 anymore, but they still fetch a hefty price. This card isn't really played anywhere except maybe a bit in Extended. Not sure if it will see play in Extended post-rotation, but it will, without a doubt, be cheaper. This card sees play in MBC, but realistically that's not Tier 1 right now.
2. Lotus Bloom; Not sure about this card. You could probably say that it sees more play in Extended than it does in Standard. However, given how the rotation will affect Extended as well, I see their prices dropping.
3. Magus of the Moon; Played in Extended but not much since they have Blood Moon. Heavily played now, but only two months left!
4. TARMOGOYF???? Well Tarmogoyf is dropping in price; I've seen it drop to about $30 on eBay, but that's only about a $5-$10 drop since a few months ago. Tarmogoyf is heavily heavily played in Extended and I can imagine other players will gobble them up from their sudden influx. I can imagine the price will drop, but only slightly.
5. Ohran Viper; Errr, doesn't really see play anymore, but yeah, going down the drain.
6. Greater Gargadon; sees play now in Reveillark and the popular (and underrated) R/B Token deck, but lately it's been dropped by R/B tokens and will probably not see Extended play unless some Zoo-like build picks it up.
7. Venser, Shaper Savant; it sees play in Extended, but not enough to keep the price at what it is today.
8. Ancestral Visions; I'm pretty sure this card doesn't see play in Extended (correct me if I'm wrong), and I'm unsure if it's fast enough to see play post-rotation since the main card-drawing card in that format, Thirst for Knowledge, still exists.
9. Pact of Negation; For obvious reasons. Sees far more play in Standard than in other formats, although it does see play in other formats. Same with Slaughter Pact
10. Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir; Not seeing play now, won't see play later.
11. Horizon Canopy; nope nope nope. Same with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Gemstone Mine
Did I miss anything? I intend on ditching all of these cards immediately at my next FNM, as I'm unlikely to play much T2 between now and October. *Sniff* I'll miss you Maguses...
Slaughter Pact maintains a solid price thanks to Magus of the Moon's resurgence. It has no use outside of type II, aswell, aside from maybe some form of legacy little black stompy variant.
Extirpate is actually played quite a bit in Vintage sideboards. Goyf still sees play in every format, and God knows that Magus of the Moon is played in a lot of Vintage, Extended, and Legacy Sligh and RDW varients. If your getting rid of them, make sure you get your money's worth.
When i started playing competitive again (i came back during Lor/Mor/SHM) i decided to trade off all my TSP block stuff (Damnations, Tarmys, extirpates, Teferis) and i got alot of Block Stuff so i would seriously suggest doing it now (while prices are still high) rather than later and suffer some minor/major price drops. I was also really interested in block so that also solidified my decision.
Although 1 card you mentioned i question...Horizon Canopy.....its a future shifted card so it MIGHT see print again. I would probably hold on to that.
ancestral vision is played in extended in one of the best deck called next Lvl blue or its varient previous lvl blue.
Tarmogoyf sees play in all formats so their value might decrease a bit but not enough to toss them out in a hurry.
Magus of the moon really depends. They are played in some rdw in legacy or vintage forgot which...extended Im not 100% sure but with blood moon still around people will stick with that since its harder to remove.
Good luck finding Shards of Alara I hear it's a rare set.
That was mean ;), you should confuse the newb
Welcome to T2 Distrubedzen, as calorie said, the new T2 will be Lorwin/Morningtide/Shadowmoor/Eventide/10th/Shard of Alara (when it gonna be release)
More on topic : If i where you i wont drop tamogoyf that early, he still is played plenty in extended and legacy (and everybody know that is the legacy format that rule the price of non-t2 card).Magus of the moon will always worth a little something but i dont think he will fall below 7.

Great thx to Zaphod from HighLight studio for this GREAT banner.
Honestly I don't see tarmogoyf, vensor, ancestral vision, or lotus bloom dropping too terribly much. Possibly not magus of the moon or pact of negation either. Most of these cards are played in at least one if not several other formats and they already are not too terribly expensive. (Other than tarmogoyf) They all fill a niche that isn't really filled by any other cards quite as well at least to my knowledge in extended (only non t2 format I'm semi-familiar with) But then again it depends on your area and meta I guess. In my area (Washington) legacy and extended are quite popular and in particular control variants. In either case I am trying to get rid of Some Tsp block cards but for the most part if you haven't gotten rid of them already I believe you may have missed the train. Myself and many other traders in my area offloaded all the "crap" cards we could just before regionals when people actually still wanted them. Now....Only casuals really want them but hell they will trade for any card they find cool anyways so that's not hard lol.

Yeah I'd have to agree with a lot of the other replies. Hang onto Tarmogoyf, Magus of the Moon, Venser, Lotus Bloom, Damnation, Ancestral Visions, and Gemstone Mine. Gemstone Mine hasn't dropped in the last 6-7 years, don't plan on it dropping any time soon. Plus there are other formats besides Extended and Standard; Tarmo and Magus see quite a bit of play in Legacy and Vintage for being newer cards and Damnation is a Wrath variant; we've seen how Wrath hasn't dropped in price since the dawn of time itself.
I would maybe try and dump Bogardan Hellkite, Gargadons, Ohran Viper and Teferi, not much more though. Even the Pacts I'd keep; they are unique enough that I can't imagine they will go down all that much, Negation and Slaughter actually see some play in other formats.
If you're going to trade for anything, trade for older stuff, if you're worried about the value of cards. Older cards hold their value more; hence the problem with Standard. Too many people want the new stuff leading to over-inflated prices. Then people like yourself run into the problem of their cards losing value once they leave t2.
Well...I'm happy to see someone who's realized that October is right around the corner.
But anyways I would trade off any of those cards now while their value is at its prime, especially Goyf. If you're strictly a Type 2 player, def trade them off now for Lorwyn+ staples because once they leave standard they become dirt. Or if you play more vintage, trade them asap for any of the older good stuff, their value will never change. But you better do it now before everyone finally starts to realize its October next week. The only card I would hold onto is Damnation because it's a black wrath(the only of its kind), and well....you know the story of Wrath.
But the big question is...which decks will continue to do well after october? Then again....I guess it'd just be the same as how Block is running now...
Magus is played MORE than Moon, since it beats for 2, which is important for both RDW and Stompy (both popular, in extended and legacy respectively).
Damnation is actually better when the rotation comes, since Extended will have less removal (as mentioned).
Are you seriously going to ditch your Canopies, Urborgs, and (to some extent) Mines? The first two are played in almost every format. They get better in every other format.

He obviously doesn't play other formats so he doesn't need them and he should get rid of them now while they are worth a couple of extra dollars.
I guess you could realistically trade them, but selling for a few extra dollars just isn't worth the trouble for all of these cards. Is the $15 dollars from Goyf worth getting rid of him? When you MAY (or may not) want him down the road? I don't think the format is that expensive that you need to go getting rid of staples of other formats. You never know when you might want to play Extended or something.
Otherwise, why is this thread here? If you are certain you'll NEVER play anything but type 2, then you might as well sell EVERYTHING that won't be in standard.
I would suggest that you sell the non futureshifted cards like Tomb of Urborg and Magus of the Moon. Hold on to Goyf, you never know if it'll come back or not...even though my money is on it not coming back...Or if your not coming back to magic at all then just sell your whole collection or something. Selling cards is like playing the stock market, sometimes you need to wait to sell and sometimes you need to wait to hold. Hence why i suggest keep futureshifted and the pacts but sell the others.
