How excited was I when I realized I needed to make a thread just for Faeries?
If you said really excited, you are so wrong and clearly severely overestimate my work ethic for making new threads in Extended. I only want to have to do total overhauls like once a season. This is what I get for making you guys the pretty new Competitive subforum before Extended season started. I spoil you guys.
Anyway, Faeries or something. It's a deck and it plays small Faeries, big whoop, wanna fight about it? Also, I guess the deck is virtually the same at the Standard version when the Standard version had Ancestral Vision and Jitte. Except it never had both of those and really now it's just getting a bit ridiculous. K'mon, Faeries, you just rotated out, now you have to go into my format now too? Why don't you just take ALL the formats, Faeries? Would that make you happy? Would it? ANSWER ME!
Any way, you counter spells, play Bitterblossom and don't afraid of anything. GG.
And now people will complain that it is similar to NLU! LOL.
I have to agree with your sentiments on Faeries and the Hatchling. The Hatchling does block a crud-load of Zoo, but wouldn't more ways to kill them be better?

Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.

the hatchlings are for mono red. They block hellsparks a lot better than doom blades. Plus turn 1 fae often has no play
This deck mulligans like no tomorrow, but fun to play regardless

I think Vision is a pretty good T1. That or Spell Snare on the draw. Or fetching a shockland tapped to not take damage from drawing it. I'd rather pack removal than Hatchling.
Hatchling also slows zoo and burn a turn out of board, really just extends the life total. That said I like removal personally too, also shouldn't it be "don't fear anything"? At any rate, don't play it, it'll make you feel like you are cheating. ; )
I played normal UB Faeries a few weeks ago and went 3-1 (losing to Bant in the 3rd round) with maindeck Repeal and Damnation and really like the archetype. Comments and suggestions appreciated.

Well, as long as you've used the Jitte before and have a counter on it so you can pump the hatchling, then you can keep going. I wouldn't call that a Plan A, though…

if you're already winning, why do you need a 0/4 hold a jitte? so you can have less counters on it?

Why do most of the straight UB Fae lists seemingly insist on running 4 River of Tears over Drowned Catacombs or more Graves?
Kraken Hatchling does seem kinda silly over other available options in Extended. I mean, for crying out loud, Steel Wall has been legal for almost seven years and it was never even considered. Even if its for Burn, if its big enough at your PTQ to have to worry about SBing 4 Hatchlings, maybe you just shouldn't run UB Fae in the first place. /shrug

Because of this deck called Zoo - have you heard of it? Its got, like, mad beats. Makes you really want those life points badly.

OK, I get that over more Graves but isn't Catacomb just better than RoT? Even on the first turn, RoT can't suspend a Visions and then the mana is conditional.

As far as I can tell, RoT provides the ability for t1 TS without taking pain. It also provides black mana on your turn for the first few turns, which is usually where you need it (primarily TS and BB). It does seem kind of awkward, but in the quest for lands that etb untapped, provide both colors, make mana on turn 1, and cause no pain, this is what we have.
I wholeheartedly wish we had ally fetchlands again, then RoT wouldn't be played at all.
River of tears is because it's not worth it to go to 15 to take a mana leak from someone's hand. Plus its really well designed for the deck. The only thing it can't do is doom blade on their turn, but you run 10 other black sources anyways.

It's because most of your black spells are sorceries, I.e. Thoughtseize and Bitterblossom
and your blue spells are instants. i.e. almost everything else, and not taking damage is a huge boon.
If you wanna cast turn1 ancestral visions, you should already have another blue source in hand.
So is Kraken Hatchling a 2 or auto 4 of in the sb due to its proficiency with the Jitte and aggro hosing abilities?
Hatchling is there b/c it's the best play against MRB this deck can have (t1, or t2 + Spell Snare if your t1 land was river of tears, crack a fetch for 1 etc).
Remember when Kazuya Mitamura started playing his Willbenders and Fathom Seers face up against Tomoharu Saito in the PT Yokohama SF's ... 'Squire' literally won that t4 match. Same thing here. Also analogous to bringing in Volcanic Hammer against Gruul w/your Korlash deck in std ...
If they have to spend dbl burn spell or it Fog's + LB you probably win the game ... it's that efficient and effective.
It's slightly less stellar against Zoo obviously, but still effective. Really not rocket science

I accept that as a valid argument, under the one condition that people stop giving it the Jitte.

Yes, on the odd chance that you both draw a card from your deck, then it is good.

It has no proficiency with a Jitte because it has 0 power, meaning it cannot deal combat damage without there already being counters on said Jitte.
