Right, you dont like me using "I dont see this as CDA." Sorry about that.
Right. I agree that the card is good, and I'll be cubing it. I think it's one of those cards that will prove to be good despite being card disadvantage, and I was just trying to strengthen your stance by correcting the CA statement, and it somehow backfired on me. I was just trying to help. I like Faithless Looting a lot.
No one in a sane mind would put card that give card disavandtage into a powered cube.
That's why we never see card like Enlightened Tutor or Vampiric Tutor ... Force of Will ... Mox Diamond ...
So yeah, Faithless Looting is far worse than Brainstorm ... Of course, with Brainstorm you will 'skip' your next two draw step since you put your useless cards on top of your library instead than in your graveyard ... but who cares, yoohoo, card advantage ...
Last, graveyard is totally useless, so filling it is pointless ... Sooooo bad that WotC never though about creating cards that allow players to take advantage of cards in graveyard ...
Yup, Faithess Looting sucks ... But I think that when the time comes I'll give it a go ... Just in case we are wrong about it being sucky ...
Ya, that card is still going strong. Card disadvantage for the win!
Well I just think that Frantic Looting's Flashback cost, even though it is worse than Deep Analysis', still allows for it to be a card that can be played from the GY alone, but yeah I think the ideal is to have a card like Nabob; or Pheonix; to mitigate the discard, which shouldnt be hard to do, thus generating CA for a very reasonable cost, while digging, and pitching.
With Squee, Goblin Nabob; it is R: Draw 2, discard 1; then RR2 Discard 4, discard 2. Even discarding cards with flashback like Lava Dart; create further advantage. It helps power threshold for Barbarian Ring; and Tarmagoyf.
I think that Looting; and Reckless Waif; Stromkirk Noble; all help red aggressive as much as Goblin Guide.
Wooo, pointless bickering. The term "card disadvantage" has a fixed meaning within Magic vocabulary. Faithless Looting is card disadvantage, wether one "sees it" as such or not is completely irrelevant, as there is no subjective component involved in the definition of the term. All you need to do is count the cards. Easy enough as wtwlf demonstrated. No need to start bickering about it, that will only make you look childish
So is the possible gain in card QUALITY worth the loss in card ADVANTAGE?
Uuum ... Possibly! *shrug*
The card doesn't excite me too much for cube, it's more of a Constructed card for all the reasons that Hankroyd character gave wthout even realizing it.
No DerBK, if Faithless Looting; is cast only from your graveyard you do not lose a card. By the definition, it is card parity, in this case.
It is exiting as hell for Cube, moving from blue to red, helping numerous combos and strategies, fitting into various archetypes. What is not to *heart* about this?
It's card parity if it's cast exclusively from the graveyard, which I don't see happening very often. The common way it gets into the graveyard (casting it) results in the -1 CDA, which can't be recouped by the card itself. Trying to argue that it's not card disadvantage is silly, which was BK's point.

But that was what I meant for the last few posts, sometimes cards like Deep Analysis; are cast from the GY.
And even though DA is better for strictly card draw, Looting doesnt lose life, and works in synergy with flashback/ re-animate strategies.

About CDA: As you read it, it really is card disadvantage. You spend a card and you don't draw 1+ cards nor do you trade with a card of the opponent. However, as soon as you have one "dead" card or card that wants to go to the graveyard in hand, you can discard it, practically discarding no card at all, and gain card parity. If you have two dead cards in hand, you do gain card advantage and that's really cool for a one-mana card. But this is not only Careful Study, it also has flashback, where it ranges from parity to +2.
That's that as far as stating the obvious is concerned, here comes my (hopefully valuable) additional information. I think it was Ponder who, quite adequately, compared Faithless Looting to Brainstorm. They're both one-mana card-selection spells and they both do little on their own. I'm really no fan of Brainstorm unless you can combine it with a shuffle effect and FL needs to be combined with dead cards to be effective, with situative cards to be accurate. If you build your deck accordingly (MonoR fits this criteria), FL can be a valuable tool in an unusual color, so it might deserve inclusion.
But what might kill it in cube is the flat power curve. I admit it comes handy in regular draft where you suffer from the last pick problem. In cube, however, you can't believe sometimes what kind of cards you can get 12th, so you really never suffer from having to play subpar cards so you naturally have few cards to throw away.
This leads me straight to my conclusion: Dunno. The more I think of it, the more I get the impression that a funky red effect is exactly what I want, but that might as well be BCSM..
Specialities about the cube: U tempo, B aggro, R slow-ish are supported. G aggro is not.
Currently trying to support tokens in all colors but blue, in different ways: W pumps them, B sacrifices them, R suicides them, G has decent-sized ones.

I started with comparing Faithless Looting to Ponder, Preordain and Brainstorm, but I think that is not the way to go. These blue spells are good because they make your deck much more consistent, because they are not card disadvantage and because blue decks don't have anything else to spend the mana on during the first turn. One of these cards in your opening hand virtually reduces your deck size and thus increases the power density of your deck. Compared to that, Faithless Looting is card disadvantage no matter how favorable you count the flashback and the increased card quality. It is also in a color where most decks want to do something aggressive on turn one. Playing a one drop creature on turn one is one of the most important things for such decks, and Faithless Looting does not help to make that happen more consistently.
I can see Faithless Looting being great as a late game card for aggressive decks, though. After having played 3-4 lands and 2-3 creatures and maybe some other spells, you have to make sure that what you draw is gas. If you can't keep up the pressure, your opponent might be able to recover. Faithless Looting lets you discard unneeded lands and spells for more business spells that you can even cast the same turn because it is cheap enough. The flashback is also cheap enough to be useful.
So yea, I think I want to test Faithless Looting. I think I will enjoy the DKA flavor more, by the way.
On the other hand, no Go for the Throat jokes and I now have to memorize more than two deck's pick orders for INN draft.
Haha, I wasn't actually expecting this card to be common. So this is like... the opposite of Go for the Throat. I would say that they balance out but then I can't rage like an old man anymore about Go for the Throat.
Faithless Looting will probably make the cut in our powered 360. We like weird utility stuff, and enabling some awesome synergy in red decks is very needed. We'll also be shifting around some cards to maximize graveyard synergies and have been pushing reanimator.
Goblin Welder might also see a reappearance due to this card's inclusion.

And Lava Dart!! I think this is a fine effect for a red flashback card.
Pity there isnt any good red spells with the madness mechanic, Volcanic Eruption; and Fiery Temper; being poor and bad respectively when they are not played when discarded, and payed full cost. And they arent any security against Mind Twist; or Hymn; Basking Rootwalla is underwhelming as well.

I was expecting it to be common actually. Effects like this aren't uncommon in INN (eg Mulch) and wizards have suggested they might move looting to red before. And IMO RU needs to be deepened for draft.
Nevertheless, things went our way and that's great!
But it takes eight mana to start, and nine mana minimum to activate from the graveyard, with buyback. It takes fifteen mana to get two damage, a 1/1 goblin, and a card drawn. That is like Emrykul!!! size mana!, for a goblin?!
A free discard outlet, is still RR4 to do two damage, and keep the card, that is too much. Red can be casting Inferno Titan; or
Do you really think RR1 for cycle, cantrip, and two damage is great, or just good? Because it cant be countered? Or cause it has Flashback as well as the cantrip burn? Is it just to hose blue, if so is there a better way? Is it just a huge mana sink?
Like Magma Jet; is Scry2 and two damage for R1, not RR1.
Is Blast from the Past; even considered strong now days? Compared to Magma Jet; Char; Brimstone Volley; Lightning Bolt; Flame Slash;
Lava Dart; in all seriousness is a great card for disruption of early utility creatures, and mana-birds. It can take out two Elves, over different turns, and it is at instant speed to finish off someting post opp combat, or in response to trigger. The cost of a Mountain for one damage from the GY, is the best you are able to get barring using the bizarre Death Spark; if it did not refernce GY order, then it would be sweet. Lava Dart, is better than Flame Jab; though it is not as recursive, it doesnt take the mana to activate, it can be a tapped Mountain, and Dart is also an Instant. Flame Jab; I dont think is good even with Life from the Loam; each turn, at best it is RRR for three damage, and three land.
Though I *want* try to include it on the RR1 cantrip, and two damage; mode. The other modes seem weak. And Magma Jet; does basically this for less mana.
No, you cycle it and pay the madness cost. Blast From the Past is basically like a mono-red Electrolyze of sorts. Cantripping burn is really good. It's a shoe-in if you support Un- cards, IMO.
