Agreed, Blast from the Past is sick (and looking at it from the absolute worst-case scenario like looking at it as a 15-mana spell is disingenuous way of looking at it.) Most of the time, it's a mono-color Electrolyze which can't split, but flashes back and that's more than good enough (definitely top 10 red spells, arguably top 5 but it's close.) I even drafted it recently when I drafted in a dragon cube and it was really good there when I got to 8 mana (cycling, madness, buyback, lather rinse repeat.)
It's a card that I wish was printed in Time Spiral block, but them's the breaks, sadly.
I was expecting it to be common actually. Effects like this aren't uncommon in INN (eg Mulch) and wizards have suggested they might move looting to red before. And IMO RU needs to be deepened for draft.
Nevertheless, things went our way and that's great!
My reasoning was mostly that, since it was a introducing a new mechanic identity for red, they'd want to introduce it firstly as a rare, or at least an uncommon. I'm glad to be wrong. =D
No, you cycle it and pay the madness cost. Blast From the Past is basically like a mono-red Electrolyze of sorts. Cantripping burn is really good. It's a shoe-in if you support Un- cards, IMO.
Yeah, Electrolyze is better without blue, and it cant be countered by spells, only by Stifle effects.

Well I thought minimum eight or nine mana to do two damage, and repeat, is a lot. But I guess one use of Cycle, and Madness; and then a Flashback, without Buyback, makes it better than most Burn spells of a similar cost.
I hope it gets printed in a real set, MaRo254 has been doing to more and more Un-cards, and this seems to be a cubist favorite; (other than Gifts Given; and Magical Hacker;) I would be happy seeing with alternate name and artwork, I guess that means a Cube could run two of them.
So yeah definitely putting in Blast from the Past; thanks Torggo, for suggesting that, I handnt put the right kind of thought into Blast recently.
Usman, do you have a ranking for reds direct damage creatures, and burn spells, for pick order, or power level? (this is something that iceage4life should know backwards.) What is #1? Lightning Bolt?
I like Flametongue Kavu more. I play him in every red deck and he is always awesome. Sulfuric Vortex is only good in red aggro. Though I have to admit that it is insane there.
He makes the cut in more decks, but it's nowhere near as game-ending. Vortex is the best card in any deck it makes it into.
This is a pretty good summary of why I think Sulfuric Vortex is also the best red card in cube.
Rivalry is pretty amazing at 360, I think it's definitely staying in and would also recommend more people to try it out. It's like a bad Sulfuric Vortex, which makes it only semi-amazing. Which means it's really good.
Buyback represents 2 static abilities -> Unaffected
Flashback represents 2 static abilities -> Unaffected
Cycling is an activated ability -> Affected. You are still discarding the card though, which means that you are able to cast if for its Madness cost
Oh okay thank eidolon232. For some reason I thought that there was a spell that stopped Flashback; and Unearth from resolving.
Undying looks like it has some potential. I don't think the one they spoiled is cube worthy but there is a chance they could make one that is. The Fateful Hour mechanic is meh.

I used to write cube articles on StarCityGames, now for GatheringMagic and podcast about cube (w/Antknee42.)

Mono red Electrolyze sounds like a good recommendation.
Yeah, Electrolyze is better without blue, and it cant be countered by spells, only by Stifle effects.
Okay, another bonus.
Curiously, how do you rank your direct damage spells, and 187 creatures with burn? Lightning Bolt #1 or FTK?
Getting better all the time.
Cant be countered, when you cycle it. Madness. Return to hand from GY with Flashback and Buyback. Makes a better Hammer of Bogadan; than the Hammer;

I am pretty sure you can't buyback a flashback as part of the cost of playing the flashback is removing it from the game.

Yes when you flashback a card it is exiled, you cannot buy it back.

FTK. Burn + creature is good.

Flametongue Kavu is surely the sickest red card.
Uril, the Miststalker RGW -- Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre C -- Vhati il-Dal BG -- Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer RW -- Animar, Soul of Elements URG
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker R -- Maga, Traitor to Mortals B -- Ghave, Guru of Spores BGW -- Sliver Hivelord WUBRG
Almost. It's the 2nd best red card.

I still have like three red cards I want to cut at 360, I can't imagine the cuts are very hard at 450.

You can stifle the madness ability and counter the spell being cast after the trigger has resolved.

I think this card is cubeable, it's quite hard to cast but is very aggressive.
