I just cut my cube down to 630, and am attempting to drastically rework my Red section. My main concern is that Demonfire, Banefire, Fireball, Star storm, Disintegrate, and Devil's play are too many. How do we rank these (or the ones I haven't included)?
Including the spells with RR in the casting cost, Comet Storm is probably on about the Banefire/Demonfire level and Rolling Thunder is outclassed by Comet Storm.
In my 500 card powered cube, I run Devil's Play, RSZ, Banefire, Earthquake, and Starstorm. I think both Banefire and Starstorm are getting cut in my next update.
I think the absolute cap would be about 1% of the cube, just as a general rule of thumb. I think a 450 can get away with running 4 red X spells, and your 630 may be able to use six.
And I agree with Friggodin's rankings and suggestions.
I'd probably run 5 at that level, if it were up to me. All three of those Blaze variants and both 'quakes.
It seems like 4-6 is the suggested amount for a cube of my size, and I thank you all for the input. Especially grateful for the ranking of them. When i get out of work today I'm going to sit down with my red section and do some pondering. Thanks.
4 to 6 seems fine. It also depends on what kind of identity you want Red to have in your Cube. If you want some kind of Artifact Burn theme (XR spells powered by artifact mana), then you may want to run a few more.
to be honest, the real crux of rolling earthquake is its pricetag. Not many people want to fork over a $100 bill for a card like this. But if you have it, or have access to if, it makes a great addition to a cube.

I think you could get away with 5 total, meaning you only have to cut 1.
