I was thinking of maybe making a Votron EDh in the future, but I wanted some ideas on good generals. I know the classic one is always Isamaru, Hound of Konda, but I wanted to know if anyone had some other interesting generals to be used. I saw someone mention Ashling, the Extinguisher for mono black voltron. So any ideas would be helpful, thanks.
Konda is pretty good. Indestructible, vigilance, bushido 5.
He's probably my favorite. White doesn't get a lot of tutors, but Equipment tutors are plentiful enough. And with a Worldslayer attached, it's pretty much game over. The fact that you can play 15 Wraths and all sorts of spot removal and graveyard recursion helps his case.
I'm sure ideally though you want a cheaper general than 6 mana. I'm not sure black ashling would make a lot of sense, her ability is just more likely to ensure she gets blocked?
But pretty much any legend costing 4 or less would work, ideally something with evasion and/or resilience (isao, enlightened bushi?)
Low mana cost? In color for Hatred? Let's you play Mask of Riddles/Dauthi Embrace/other evasion really easily? Voltron decks I've seen have problems keeping pace with other decks once their general has been hit a couple times. Any CA you can get helps.

That makes sense. I just didn't see him as an aggro threat with only 1 power. I have been trying to make my Oona deck into a Volton type deck with all of her tokens, but it feels pretty forced. I might try Evil Sygg insetad.
Voltron just means using equipment to turn little creatures into big threats. It's based on some old show where a character called voltron formed out of component pieces.
So by adding swords of fire and ice / light and shadow and a warhammer to isamaru you turn him into a "voltron"... somethin like that
Voltron comes from the Transformers cartoon; he was a robot that was made up of many individual ones.
The concept carries over in that, as Aitrus described, you keep inserting all sorts of powerups (mainly equipment) to get one huge creature and turn it into a monstrosity in combat. Creatures that are able to protect themselves generally are some of the better Voltron generals to use (such as Konda since he's indestructible or white Sygg since he can give himself protection from colors).
EDIT: Sorry Sharpened, I thought for some reason they were part of the same show ;_;

I'm sorry the nerd in me can't let this statement stand. Just stop.

I cannot tell you how sad that comment made me. I have a friend that we've called Pidge since the 2nd grade and that reference must go completely over your head. The original Voltron die-cast metal toy was something that made every kid in the neighborhood jealous; if you had one, you were the MAN. If you didn't, you tried to get friends that did.
I personally like Karn, Sliver Golem as a voltron general. You attack, and then you can animate your armor to block for you if you really need it too. That and the image of Karn full decked out in equipment is pretty sweet.

If you're going to go the Aura route (I don't know enough about Voltron to know if it has to be equipment or if auras are OK), then Zur the Enchanter is insane. If you put Diplomatic Immunity on him with the first swing, he becomes very difficult to deal with. Steel of the Godhead on the second swing adds unblockable and lifelink (and a PT boost), which is pretty sweet. The awesome thing is that Diplomatic Immunity doesn't prevent Zur from finding more Auras for himself because they don't target, they just come into play
You can also grab a Journey to Nowhere or Oblivion Ring or the like to deal with threats before the declare blockers step.

I have a deck based around Zhang Fei, Fierce Warrior and equipment I use online. Horsemanship essentially makes him unblockable, so each piece of equipment or point of power I manage to add to him almost automatically gets through for increased general damage. Giving him double strike is awesome, and Sigil of Distinction can make him huge. The vigilance is a bonus too.

heh, I was thinking more along the lines of a LITERAL Voltron, with Banding.
I'm guessing there's a limited selection of cards that give a person Banding, so you can get a 5-Color General, and have him band with 5 1-Colored guys (making him the ULTIMATE VOLTRON)
EDIT: While the Idea was cool, only 4/5 colors have cards with banding.
Currently 62/265 cards.

How does that make him a good "Voltron General" though?
