I am moving and that means a new play group. I know how important first impressions are so the question at hand is whether to come out strong or more subdued. What I mean by this is that I have an extensive collection (played only vintage from 1998 to 2006) and numerous big foils.
For example, should I roll with my foil unhinged lands or just go with normal basics?
I don't necessarily mean making a deck more or less competitive but on the level of "pimp".
do you want to put up with "will you trade that?" all night? my suggestion would be simply show up, saying you have experience and a collection. after playing, if anyone wants to see your pimped collection, show it off. just don't run in a whip it out like 'i'm so much better then you'

Conclusion: "Knowledge Corrupts"
Have a helicopter drop you off out front. Light your cigar with a small Indonesian boy holding a black lotus. Then bust out a craw wurm deck with no sleeves. Raw dog shuffle, loose terribly, flip the table, leave in a hovercraft.

Bring 2 decks, a "funky" one and your main one. Play with the funky one first to see how competitive the players are. Then next few games play with your main.

Pimp your deck out as much as you can. Those cards are more fun to play with and against, and anything you play could potentially be a conversation starter. "That's pretty awesome, where did you get that?" or "How much is that worth?" or "How many of those do you have?" or "I've never even SEEN that before!?" or "Do you have a trade binder?"
Just don't play strategies that will make people hate you. Not until you get a feel for your playgroup. You don't want to get archenemy'd forever unless you're sure you can take it.

If I post something on a public forum then it's public, you don't need to ask me if you want to "sig it".
Go nuts.
