I think it's alright now, buddy. The manabase is strong is just about any configuration because Grixis has access to two kinds of Coreset Dual.
yeah i tried to run very few shocks and very few lands that conditionally enter the battlefield tapped. the number of low number EBT lands is what makes this version different from the 5cc version. otherwise not having path to exile and esper charm makes no sense.

In life all we can do is try to make things better. Sitting lost in old ways and fearing change only makes us outdated and ignorant.
Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding.

Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity.
Well, it makes a lot of sense, because the manabase is stronger and faster.
You've already made it just about perfect.
it is still not quite perfect lol. I'm always trying to find ways to make things better. Have you tested vs a zoo deck yet? Its the whole reason why I don't have spreading seas in my main deck.

I'm mostly worried about how the spreading seas will do. I have path to exile in that slot.
I'm going to throw your deck in the OP.

Spreading Seas is good just about everywhere else, tbh. And it does have applications against Zoo. You can shrink Nacatl, turn off man-lands (if they run any), and so on.

I know it has uses, if nothing else it cantrips, but I had a hard time finding space for it.

Seriously? No chandra firebrand in this deck, it is near the jace potential when you get a copy cruel, GftT, discard spells, doom blade, tezz gambit, char, stuff like that?
Updated my list. Thanks to Slip for reminding me about the existence of Rune Snag; I had forgotten it existed, and it's really pumped up my permission package. My current list:
The mainboard is a bit tight on space, but I like the way that it's turned out. I'm currently on the fence about 3 Cryptic/2 Firespout, and will likely flip that split if this format becomes really heavy on the beatdown strategies. Other than that, I'm happy with the list. Spreading Seas mainboard is to meet my expectations for lots of 12post and to help me smooth my curve and draws while simultaneously playing early mana denial.
As for the sideboard, I tried to be flexible with it and hit the major archetypes. Vendilion Clique and Thoughtseize are great pieces for combo matchups, and they translate well into the control mirror as well. Fallout is in the board purely for the probability that Merfolk becomes a deck. If Merfolk proves to be unviable, I will take them out for another Firespout and a Damnation/Wrath of God. The 3rd Path is in the board for flexibility reasons, though I am considering shoring it (and the two Fallouts) for a trio of Maelstrom Pulse. Triple Rain of Tears improves my 12post matchup even more postboard, while Ancient Grudge is for random artifact-based decks. Identity Crisis is my silver bullet for control mirrors, and also because I just love the card.

Really enjoying brainstorming on this build. This is the style control archetype I played more often than not before i sold my collection (about 6 years ago) A little more work and I will post a new deck list.
i like this list, especially the grixis one
the manabase is efficient and oddly enough not that expensive ($ wise)
cruel control was always fun back in the day
however, what are you guys thoughts on a 1 of academy ruins to recur wurmcoil more efficiently?
yes, ultimatum does that but still
too taxing on the mana base. the most thing that is going to kill it the most is path to exile, which recursion at that point is a lost cause.
the trick is to just wait until after you wreck their hand with the ultimatums.

How are they not the same deck? I have been looking at everyone's lists from both pages and from what I can tell the decks are the same. atleast provide reasoning for how they are not the same by showing two different decklists or something.
And don't you dare argue that one plays white and the other is straight grixis.
Yeah, we're all working toward the same goals here. Both decks use some measure of hand and land disruption to gain an advantage over Zoo, Jund, and 12Post.

Also mindbreak trap is good and I found out that coalition relic is really powerful in the mirror.
Another idea I had today. Is crucibleof worlds legal? Because I would love to play 1 tecedge in the board along with crucible.
Also everyone should try atleast 1 storage land at worst it taps for colorless, atbest it will win you the controll mirror.
EDIT: can we please have the teachings and cruel control threads made into 1 because in all honesty they are the same deck.
