I was happy to be rid of wrath, I felt it discouraged the primary mechanic of the game, Creatures. Ironically after the Baloths were revealed, I was like "dang they will need to bring back a sweeper". This card makes me very exited to see some regen VAMPIRES, and please bring back my old fave sedge troll! Honestly they should have made this card 10 years ago, and is another example of fixes that got me playing again. I had my wraths for at least that long so not upset about the money issue and now they can stay in the old classic decks. It was extremely gracious of wizards to make this a promo card as that will strongly curve the value and supply.
All this "Wizards doesnt like the cant be regenerated clause" means nothing when white still gets 1 and 2 mana removals that dodge it with a simple "Exile".... regenerate should go on a shroud dude, that would make me happy
As long as it's not Mythic, it won't go higher than $15 each at its peak. Smaller sets mean more supply. (Side note: Way to fail at the "no staples at Mythic" claim with Time Warp - incoming $20 tag)
Well, Given that time warp still only sells (at the highest end) for $7-$8 each on ebay, it would have to near triple from its current price in order to hit $20. Honestly if it makes it over $10 Ill be surprised. I wouldnt however be surprised to see it hit $10 right around rotation. Once the supply equalizes from the second print run (just released this week) and the third print run (coming the middle of september) things should start to even out a little more form the supply side.
Anyhow, just something to keep in mind.
As for the new wrath, I expect it to end up at around $15 or so. A staple card for sure, but still I expect zendikar will be popular enough to keep the supply up and the price tag down at more reasonable levels. The fact of the matter is, as well, while this card has potential for use in older formats and what not, with wrath still around for them to use, the insane multi-format demand may not be there quite as much, thus leading to a lower overall price for the card as well.
okay I have seen this numerous times. People keep saying that Extended only has 8 wrath's. This simply isn't true. The most notable reason why is because of Damnation. However there is a much lesser known wrath effect (probably due to the fact that it was never very good when compared to the original wrath of god which was still in print at the time I believe). But this card still deserves credit as a wrath effect.
there are 16 board-sweepes in the 4cmc range in extended as of the release of Zendikar. They are as follows:
Looks sweet...
Hope I crack a couple...
People need to learn what a "functional reprint" is...
Hopefully we'll see some new regen beasties to play against or along with this in the block to come...
Hmmm, I might even play them in a WBR blightning to clear the way for Ball Lightning...
I can understand them not liking them name anymore. I disagree with it, but i can see the point. But the judgement that such a minor card name change, is worth upsetting a loyal fanbase by making us rebuy the same card is ********! It's a shame.
Except, you know... that whole part where its not a reprint with a different name.
Seriously. This is not the first time a card has been changed in a subtle but ultimately noticeable way. This time it just happens to have happened to a long-standing fan favorite that people are still ****ing their pants over being finally taken out of the Core set.
Grizzly Bears => Runeclaw Bears: Functional reprint. 2/2 for 1G.
Wrath of God => Day of Judgment: NOT a functional reprint.
They didn't reprint Wrath of God with a new name. They printed a new card, that happens to share the same mana cost as *** and have the "important" half of its two abilities.
It is a functional reprint cause regeneration is almost null in magic. Your opinion is flat wrong.
It is a functional reprint cause regeneration is almost null in magic. Your opinion is flat wrong.
Just FYI, saying an opinion is wrong is...well...less than smart. The allowance of regeneration makes Regeneration good. It was the fact that everything prevented regeneration before that caused it to be a bad ability. Expect to see a bunch more regenerators in the future.
Can opinions be wrong? Anyways I thought Wizards didn't really like regeneration all that much in the first place? The rules for regen has been and still is confusing at times. Besides, I thought Indestructible was the new regen? It's gonna suck having to get 4 sub-par wraths instead of playin with my old ones. But at least Wizards is now embracing their money-making machine in all its glory, and milking every card and concept for everything they're worth.
"Hey you want to play Magic?"
"Sure"
"How much money you got?"
"A few bucks."
"Ah nvm"

Yeah. I'm just imagining a spell that was "2WW, Sorcery: Creatures can't be regenerated this turn"
One part of Wrath was core to what the card did. The other part was only relevant a small fraction of the time. So no, it's not half a card, it's 95% of a card, with inferior art and flavor to boot. And no, it's not a functional reprint, it's a nearly-functional reprint. But if one enjoys playing control, one has to get the sweepers whether one likes them or not.
I'll assume it's real and say...Duh, this is what they had to do. Wrath was only a hair too good and this brings it back down a hair. Ergo: Perfect.
Yeah, perfect. Except for those useless Wraths sitting in my binder now, which need to be replaced with new rares, either by cracking packs or by trading valuable rares.
I call it a cheap money-grab. If it was an inexpensive or non-essential card they were altering, like Remove Soul -> Essence Scatter, or the way they brought Control Magic back by making it cost one more, I'd gripe a bit and then get over it. But we're talking about a nearly-functional reprint of a money rare most of us already had playsets of.
That's called "How do we rip off every serious control player in Standard? Hmm..."
I like regeneration, and while this being a little lame since I own a Wrath playset, I wouldn't mind opening up a few of these. And I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more regeneration creatures.

Would you have bought more or less Zen is this was Wrath of God? Probably not. Like most people this card is not going to make or break how much of Zen you are going to buy. What this can do for you is if you don't play this than you just found yourself an easy 10-14$ trade fodder card. Wizards is not going to make more money from this card. Why do people still insist that they are. I am not going to buy an extra box simply because of this card. Also I am still going to buy my box even with a less powerful Wrath of God.
Honestly do you know one person who wasn't going to buy Zen that if Wrath of God was reprinted that would have been the deciding factor? If not than they don't make more money.
level up is absolute garbage. yes somebody feel free to quote me on this in their sig. NONE OF THE LEVEL UP CARDS SHOWN TODAY WILL SEE COMPETITIVE PLAY OUTSIDE OF LIKE ROE ONLY CONSTRUCTED OR SOME GARBAGE.

Didn't you ever think they were trying to get rid of all the religious/region-like names? All your examples pretty much prove that.
I'm not gonna say it's not a money grab, but they are in business, and a business' main goal is to profit. What would you do? Your game has religion biases in it, it's getting too expensive for most people to play competitively, somethings are getting dull and boring. Change it up? No Kidding!
How does everyone who is complaining "know" how this is gonna effect the block ptq? Or Draft? Why would putting this card in M2010 solve all your problems? They reprint a core set every year. You people are so ignorant its like your blindfolding yourselves then talking.
I would rather spend 60 bucks on new wraths, in a new standard environment. Do you honestly think with such a generic name they won't reprint this card?
Everyone who is complaining needs to go get a paper route and earn some money. I am in university, living on my own, with a decent job over the summer, I can spend a few bucks here and there. No one is forcing you to have 30 competitive T2 decks. Pick the colors you like, play draft, play sealed, there are so many ways to get rating its unbelievable.
Does anybody else feel that this is the ugliest board sweeper ever made? That artwork is hideous.
I have my playset of Wrath, but I'm not too concerned about having to shell out money for a new set - they made a solid flavorful change my removing a reference to a deity never mentioned in the Magic multiverse.
My issue is with shelling out money for that artwork. It's terrible. I could never put something like that in my deck. I really hope the promo artwork is far different from the regular art.

I too am hoping the standard art is better. Better art and no flavor text VS lesser art and cool flavor text. Take your pick. I'll take the former.
Yeah, the art is un-original and boring. Reminds me alot of Torrent of Stone another boring and un-imaginative card. ******.
Thanks Vorthos. :U
I think that Day of Judgement will be in most white T2 decks, and blue that splash white because its still a good sweep. Green and black now have an edge, but I have a feeling these will be dropped when the opponent is tapped out. Outside of Standard, I still expect this to be played.
Where would this be played outside of standard? And why in the world would someone play this card, over the superior Wrath of God?
Say they had Cudgel Troll or Troll Ascetic or One of the Boas/Lynxes or Loxodon Hierarch and wanted to come out ahead?
Personally, I don't play alot, but I don't see how this can be considered a grab for money. How many of the people that would go for a playset of these would rely on opening packs to get them over buying singles? Wizards doesn't sell singles, the stores do, so the money goes to the stores, who I am pretty sure had nothing to do with making this card.

Now people can finally stop pretending Planar Cleansing is decent.
I think printing this card is a mistake, since it's almost like Wizards is scared of having a meta without a decent white sweeper. Meanwhile mono black is stuck with Infest. At least give us Mutilate back.
I'll be honest, I didn't read all the 39 pages so my question might have already been answered but, looking at the spoiler art in the Zendikar Spoiler page, I noticed the templating is a little...different.
Is it just the photo or is the card a lot more yellow-ish than the current ''white'' for Magic cards ? It almost looks more similar to the Planeshifted templating.
I'm not calling fake, I'm just wondering if they are going to do like in Mirrodin and update the style of the cards.

i dont think a limited edition foil promo will effect the price of the normal ones. it's not like it's going to be the pre-release or release promo
Which is why many people want Troll Ascetic back.
