Also just curious it was said on this weeks episode that this card will be the "Prerelease" card? Where is this information coming from?
It was sent out for the promo giganti-card in the MPRs last month(mine are still on the way). On the back, it said that this will be the pre-re card, and Joraga Warcaller shall be the release card.

In my opinion that is really dis-heartening... It kinda makes me a sad panda... Only becuase i have no use for either of those cards... Though i have usually been lucky with my sealed pools *in Zendikar i got two fetches and a Nissa* So hopefully i can get a Jace to make up for the similar to lorwynn release promo's we will be recieving in this pre-release.

Consider the possibility that some (or many) of the people posting all confused about if they can target the same player twice or not, are actually just doing so to prove a point - that Comet Storm is really complicated and special, and therefore mythic.
except as poited out before it produces the exact same confusion as a uncommon cone of flame. It's also less complicated than many other mythics, rares and uncommons.
. I don't even have to explain why this card is strong, you already know it.
Actually you do since I don't believe the criteria for being a mythic ever had to do with how strong it is. printing cards like BSA was a mistake at mythic, unless you think there should be $50 cards in every set(which defeats the whole point of making sets smaller)
A 40 dollar mythic rare would constitute a must have 4 of that goes in many decks.
Stats About Mythics
-Mythics are on average 40% rarer than pre-mythic rares
(old blocks about 200 rares, Mythic blocks 35+ mythics)
-They are printing more new cards a year not less
(about 665 now vs. 630 in most pre-mythic block)
-To drop the value of a rare by $1 a mythic must go up $2
-In a 3 year time span deck prices doubled. I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause.

WotC cannot possibly predict the secondary market and relative strength of each card.
And Baneslayer isn't a $50 card because of it's strength. It's a $50 card because it has the perfect storm of cost increases (collector creature type, viable in 2 constructed formats, mythic rarity, less than ampple M10 supplies, and hype.) Hell, Baneslayer is barely in good Standard decks anymore, which have moved over to Malakir Bloodwitch and Sphinx of Jwar Isle, both of which are less than $10.

collectors creature type= no, lots of angels not all vauble

That's why probably the only white card that see's more play than her is path? That's why it's in the top decks with white? turbo fog, UWR control, boros bush whacker, w/g agro, naya lightsaber, white control, 5 color cascade, it's even begun making some appearances in spread 'em and emeria aggro.

What other M10 card has the impact of Baneslayer? Lands rarely break $20, so they're out. 'Walkers are less splashable, they're out. Plus, all the M10 walkers were reprints and already had their hype storm.
Hype definitely adds to price. When the card gets 1-3 of at most in the sideboard it isn't exactly the most played card. It's been on the way out for a while now. Prices are still high because people still pay it, even for a subpar card.

There's a little thing called the Doubling Season effect, where a card that's really not played that often competitively costs a lot because it's a huge card for casual. People love it, and it costs a lot.
Baneslayer, being an angel that's full of abilities has that "casual Timmy" appeal, plus, it's a highly used competitive card, and it's mythic. And M10 was in short supply, and it's hardly being opened anymore.
I'm pretty sure if and when she's reprinted in M11, she'll drop to a $30-$35 card.

I'll hold myself to this. I'll get fancy dishes and everything.
About the baneslayer thing, its more likely to go up then down is U/W becomes a deck or hell bant goes Tier 1. Also the reason Baneslayer is up there, is mostly because if its untap tap and she aint dead, its almost always game. For 5 Mana that can block the ☺☺☺☺ out of your opponent. Calling a Baneslayer Sub-Par is like calling a BMW crappy because you don't own one.
On comet storm, this card will hit $10 maybe and then tank downwards, just like banefire. What the hell deck would play this? Thats the problem.
Have a helicopter drop you off out front. Light your cigar with a small Indonesian boy holding a black lotus. Then bust out a craw wurm deck with no sleeves. Raw dog shuffle, loose terribly, flip the table, leave in a hovercraft.

Why would U/W control play Baneslayer of Sphinx of Jwar Isle? Why would any deck that can reliably put out UU in standard want Baneslayer over Jwar Isle? As for Boros, it has a Baneslayer or two in the SB, but what deck does it Board it in for? It wins on speed, topping out at Ranger of Eos. 5cmc is just too much for Boros, especially in a meta this rife with efficient removal. As for Naya, it runs speedy too, and baneslayer doesn't end the game any faster than Nacatl, Bloodbraid, Ajani Vengeant, Lightning Bolt, etc. Simply put, Banelsyaer is losing her home quickly. She'll stay expensive because she isn't unplayable in Standard, but she is not a top tier choice.
As for Comet Storm, I predict it hovering around $3-5 unless some sort of insane combo for mana breaks loose, in which case, this card is an instant speed Banefire. Banefire will be better, but this card might see some play.

Counterburn. Between draw, a few counters, Sphinx, Earthquake, Pyroclasm, Kraken Hatchling, Wall of Frost... Maybe Tern that really only needs to hit once to keep your life ahead. There's a lot of tools there that could make a good deck.

You don't have a set at all do you. The reason baneslayer is in these decks, is becuase we go play for play, you kill that Nactly you kill that elf, you kill that thoctar. You bolt that ajani, then I drop that baneslayer and your out of removal and its game. Only three major removal hurts her, Path, Pulse, Terminate. Also the reason she will go into U/W control over Sphinx is becuase she kicks the crap out of him. Hits the board a turn before and Sphinx vs Baneslayer duel, guess who always wins. Trying playing boros with her, try. You absloutley have to board her in some match ups and almost always becomes the win con. Nothing makes your oppoenent scoop faster then an unanswerd baneslayer friend. But comet storm will hit $10 right away, just remeber to trade yours off. If you dont belive me go to your local FNM and just listen to people talk about the damn thing, its no where near as good as they think it is but thats the reason it will hit ten then tank.

Well. According to ebay, the current pre-sale prices are a whole $4 per for the highest buy-it-now prices. So good luck on that $10 stuff, I know the card isnt getting THAT much hype in our shop. Its a nice card, but clearly isnt THAT great. Fun casual card though :).

I think this is going to be like Eternity Vessel. It's kinda cool and seems like a bomb, but it's probably not going to find a Tier 1 home. Does Fireball see any play?

Baneslayers are usually played in the board of U/W because Wall of Denial and Sphinx are better game 1. Games 2 and 3 against aggro, you can board in the Baneslayers and most of your opponents will have boarded out a lot of their removal.

Can Fireball be played at the end of your opponent's turn after you've left mana open for counters?
On comet storm, this card will hit $10 maybe and then tank downwards, just like banefire. What the hell deck would play this? Thats the problem.
UWR control decks will be all over this card. It's awesomely versatile for the deck, as it can be a quick answer to something like Overrun, taking out a couple of Steppe Lynxes before they swing in for 8, or acting as an EOT Banefire when you're sitting there with 8 open mana on their turn and don't need to block with your connelade.
That said, I agree with you. I don't see it costing more than ~$10, the only decks it'll be used in (UWR/Grixis) will only run maybe two copies.
Breaking news.
There will be no Tibalt, Tamiyo, Tezzeret, Garruk, Chandra, Liliana, mini-Jace, big-Jace, Garruk again, or Sarkhan in Theros either.
There will also be no Black Lotus.
Perhaps someone at WOTC has actually done a bit of playtesting... Afterall, niether of the pre-re cards you mention were held in high regard until some months after the events.
Life gain rarely wins games. Craw Wurm swings for 6. Baneslayer swings for 5. Unanswered, the Craw Wurm is a better card.
Craw wurm takes 4 swings to drop someone from 20 to 0 life. BSA takes the same number. Craw has no removal protection whatsoever (Not that BSA has much), doesn't fly, and....has nothing else going for it.
I see what point you're attempting to make, but you're oversimplifying, and apparently not doing any math >.<.
Using that logic, you could argue Grizzly Bears is better than Craw Wurm, only because it's more efficient for the mana cost. Then you could further oversimplify that therefore, Grizzly bears is better than BSA.
At this point, I would openly and warmheartedly welcome you to build a deck around this logic, and come play me. For money. Lots of money.
