Hmm at first I read "Memioricide" and then I got the words "Momento" and "Memior" mixed up and thought it'd have to do with removing artifact cards from the graveyard to do something. But that seems awfully specific--even as a haunting echoes effect it wouldn't be strong enough to warrant a buy-a-box promo.
Maybe its going to be a new attempt at a "fix'd" Skull Clamp...if the "-icide" is like "Pesticide" (i.e. an object) and not like "Genocide" (i.e. an action).

You're making an etymological distinction between pesticide and genocide that doesn't exist. Removed from any particular context, any "x-cide" can refer either to the act of killing x or the killerof x. I agree however that it's not entirely clear in this case.
Memoricide could either refer to the act of killing memories or an object that is the killer of memories.
I'm thinking something Extirpate or Haunting Echoes-esque. Cards in graveyard = memories a lot of the time (eg. Recollect, flashback, ).
This makes the most sense to me. I could see something like "exile all cards from opponents' graveyards, each player takes 1 damage for each card exiled this way."
It could also be something like an enchantment that has a negative Locket of Yesterdays effect. It could even be something like "spells your opponents cast cost 2 more to cast for each card with the same name as that spell in his or her graveyard." I know that isn't what Memoricide would be, but whaaatever.
or something like this MemoricideBB Instant
Target player reveals his or her hand, then discards each card with the same name as a card in his or her graveyard. That player loses 3 life for each card discarded this way.

Either way, exciting.
Or the act of killing Memnarch? Nah, just kidding. But it'd be a funny pun they could make in the illustration or flavor text.
But, seriously, I've never heard of anyone calling an object "genocide" or "fratercide", despite having heard "pesticide" used as both a verb and a noun. I guess when people are involved we generally prefer terms that specify the weapon since we have many more and many more diverse methods of killing other humans than we do insects...at least "by design of the object in question" (you could totally kill a roach with a gun...).
On another note: this would make a cool equipment...maybe like: Hypnotic Specter in a Can! (since we lost hippie in the core set). I hope so (I love the kor-equip deck...and kor-duelist + hypnotic specter ability would be nuts).
Names that have to do with "memory" are usually discard, mill, or library manipulation.
And cards with -icide are usually involving mass removal of some sort. I'm going to assume its Haunting Echoes for a players hand perhaps, sort of like a Thought Hemorrhage? Wild speculation at this point Lol.

"The fatal flaw in every plan is the assumption that you know more than your enemy."
I just like the fact that it's probably some kind of blue or black or artifact card. And probably a spell. Which means that I'll at least be able to play it.
It does feel oddly like it will be some kind of hate card. That'd be an odd promo, wouldn't it? It'd almost be like "here, take your one weapon against the set."
My two hopes
-I hope it's not mill.
-I hope it's not poison.
Those are the two things that would stop me from having any hope of playing it, and box promos would just mean another untradable rare. Graveyard hate would be boring, but it almost ensures a playable sideboard card, vs getting something that will see no play.

I'll be sad if people don't start calling The Chain Veil "Fleetwood Mac."
Target player discards X cards and gets X poison counters? (replace X with the casting cost of this spell + 1; not an "x" spell like mind twist...) I might enjoy that a bit hahha...
On that note: aside from Day of Judgement, what other non-creature buy-a-box promos have we had?
it sounds like mill exile maybe a traumatizep that exiles instead of graveyard'n the library. either that or some black search and exile select cards.

Haha, that is my theory as well.
Anyway, as I see it, Memoricide is likely to be an instant or sorcery.
I'm willing to bet that the card will contain the following text:
"Search that player's hand, graveyard, and library for all cards with the same name as [...] and exile them. Then that player shuffles his or her library."
But there are several possibilities as for what the card might do even if this is true.
* If it turns out to be the love child of Extirpate and Thoughtseize, the part I left out could easily be "a card discarded this way" or "that card."
* If it's a kill spell that reaches into the opponent's mind and erases every memory of that creature's existence, then it'll be "that creature." ... oh, wait, Eradicate already did that. Nevermind. It could still get rid of things on the field in addition to cards in the opponent's graveyard, hand, and library, however.
Or worse... a combination of Haunting Echoes + Mill + Discard
Maybe its going to be a new attempt at a "fix'd" Skull Clamp...if the "-icide" is like "Pesticide" (i.e. an object) and not like "Genocide" (i.e. an action).

And I guess the word "usually" wants a word with you.
Also, If they combine a sweeper of any kind with hand or library manipulation, that could be a very cool combined effect.
My guess is a Lobotomy that jettisons every card in a player's hand except for basics.

It would be very fitting to this name. Still, it's dangerously strong, so it could end up being terrible due to high casting cost.
Well, I'll not try to guess, but I'll agree with pretty much everything - it's prolly either mill, discard, or a mix of those.
I'm a Spike Vorthos - I love lore and flavor, but only if the cards are competition worthy.
