We were close enough.
Obliterater sounds more like a wrath card.
But then again it kinda is ;).
Anyways it makes you think...
How many more typos did we make?
O_O
I guess we'll see soon.
Can't wait for the rotations so this card could actually be good, all they need is IoK type card to be around after rotation and MBC might have a deck.

;6600830']A high cost Seizan, Perverter of Truth that instead forced discard to opponents would be a much flashier, (but probably less playable Standard), card for sure!
My initial thought on 'legendary black phyrexian' were more along the lines of a Grave pact type effect. 'Black Phyrexian' just makes me think of sacrificing stuff, but for some reason the hungry Lobster T-rex that is Vorinclex makes me think HE might get to do something like that.
i would love sheoldred to read something like:
Whenever a nontoken creature is put into your graveyard from the battlefield you may lose 1 life and draw a card.
Whenever a nontoken creature is placed into an opponents graveyard from the battlefield, you may gain 1 life. That player discards a card.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Yes, that one. I must have missed the art on that one! I know what it does, but I think I only looked at the text spoilers for most of those cards' releases...
Oh man, even speculating at Roxith's golem is fun. Imp army follows it whenever it kills something (that sounds like a mechanic), but if the art really does have a human corpse hanging from it's chest, then I'm a happy guy.
I don't really think that Roxith is getting a legendary creature card, unfortunately. Azax-Azog had his section next to the art of Chancellor of the Dross, so he's not getting one, and it would make most sense for Roxith to have the same fate as the other named characters from the Field Reports on the minisite and have his portrait simply be from a normal card.
But I am also excited for a new Skirge, indeed! I squealed in delight when I saw it.
I don't expect all that many legendaries, but wouldn't be surprised by a card named "Thane of Rot" in NPH.
The article is quiet interesting. It makes sense for black having many individualistic leaders bidding their time. The Skirge is a nice return. I hope it feels iconic - though it sounds pretty much like a flying Flensermite.
All these minions assigned to different leaders... @.@
I also recognize quite an intriguing theme of masks among Phyrexians so far.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.
[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
And it looks like Roxith is also going to be a legend. There seems to be a lot of legends in this set.
Why?
None of the arts used in field reports were legendary cards. Kessla ended up on Sylvok Lifestaff, Farris and Ria on the two MBS Heroes, Unctus on Grand Architect. Roxith may be the same case. I do not know why just him, of all the other Thanes, should have a legendary card.

I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
I like Obliterator better. Canceller's and Chancellor's together seemed silly to me.

Anyways, all these names containing the letter "x" is getting really cheesy, really quickly.
On both notes, I was thinking the exact same thing.
Personally, Phyrexian Annihilator is what I would've liked, but hey, Obliterator is acceptable. I really like the art of that underground area, can anyone say land cycle?
Soldier, did you look through that whole thread? The collector numbers are impossible. Those cards are faaake.
Didn't they just find out that card would be Phyrexian Obiliterator not Canceler? That would change the names & number thread.

For English speakers, yeah maybe. It'd sound less dumb if you spoke Nahuatl, probably. The Phyrexian language having an abundance of the "X" sounds isn't that big of a deal.
More importantly than this card's name... This is the first time I've seen anything like this from the mothership. These are OUTSTANDING flavor articles, and if they did it for every set, they'd hype me up for every single one of them. It's as if we were tossed Scars and Beseiged merely to be kept busy for this monumentally flavorful set. Way to go, Magic Creative Team!

Were you not around when they did the Planeswalker's Guide to Zendikar? The Planeswalker's Guide to Alara was in print form, not digital, but it had more or less the same quality of content that we have here. It didn't sell well enough to continue in that form, but I think I prefer the digital version, as it is A) free, and B) easily accessible via the internet rather than having to get out my copy of the book whenever I want to reference it.

Yup, but I speak English, so it does sound dumb. Not a big deal either way. It's just that giving one Praetor a seemingly first and last name in Elesh Norn and then having the rest be like Gsixexxen makes me roll my eyes.

No, I wasn't around for it. I went on hiatus for a few years and came back when Scars was released. It's a great trend!
I stand by what I say, though - the flavor of this set is outstanding. As a long time player, this new side of Phyrexia being fleshed out (thought this was a funnier turn of phrase than 'compleated') is a real treat. I will go back and find/read the Zendikar articles, thanks for that, although I will venture a guess I won't enjoy them as much.

I wonder if any of these names actually translate to words in the Phyrexian language they had made? Beyer has said that Norn's name is made up, but some of these Thanes could have names derived from actual Phyrexian words. That would explain the abundance of X's, R's, and other common Phyrexian letters.

Didn't Xantcha's name have some meaning behind it, I could have sworn it did :/.
I know she also stated that if Phyrexia had a word for "rape" then Gix would be that word, which is more of a general musing, but does show the possibility that names in Phyrexia often hold meanings.
