I've also heard that M12 will in fact have a story and that it's probably a return to Zendikar, but that was from here so who knows for sure.
mmmmmm i'd be willing to bet money that who ever said that was making 100% pure speculation without any proof or even edivence hinting at a return to a plane in a core set
All this talk of a story behind M12 (and potentially the re-inclusion of Legendary creatures) has me a bit giddy.

I hope we get a new Jace. I know Jace 2.0 won't be reprinted, but feel as if 1.0 isn't enough anymore.
My thoughts exactly. Aside from Garruk getting some play here or there, the Lorwyn 5 aren't as good as they were. They were sort of nice before, but now we're getting better options to them, like Jace TMS being better than Jace B. and Koth being better than Chandra.
New Planeswalkers would make sense as they're the icon of the game, it would be a fun way to sell the set, and would explain all of the heavy emphasis on them in the advertising (and not just because of DotP 2012).
The whole Bant art aspect really makes me hope they bring Exalted back. It'd be a good contrast, and a good option to reprint some valuable cards (Noble Hierarch, Qasali Pridemage, etc), to Battle Cry from Scars block. Makes sense on the whole 'Gather your allies' they're trying to do, considering Exalted only got better when you had more dudes with Exalted in play.

Here's to hope!
The Alara art was used because of a lack of anything else and to give a visual to Gideon's story. Exalted won't come back anytime soon.
Exalted and battle cry clash with each other and don't work together as the former promotes one attacker and the latter promotes multiple attackers. Having them together seems off to me.
Noble Hierarch won't be reprinted as Birds of Paradise fills that slot better. Qasali Pridemage won't be reprinted as there's a self imposed 'no gold cards in Core Sets' rule that WotC follows.
-This is just a trailer for the set and game, a little way to explain the tagline and reinforce the planeswalkers brand.
-Not a single one of the altered arts in the trailer has to do with anything. It was just a cool effect. (Zendikar and Alara aren't getting 'revisited' etc) Remember, the planeswalkers are NOT tied to any planes. That is the nature of being a planeswalker - they can show up anywhere.
-This doesn't tell us much more about the contents of the set than we already knew. We know the pictured five are in the set, and I doubt any more than those 5 will be in there. Liliana is in Innistrad, and Bolas...well, he's gold.
There has already been plenty of terribad speculation on this thread, so hopefully we can rein that in and just enjoy that magic finally is doing right in advertising.

In other news, this is certainly an odd trailer to take seriously, lore-wise. Does Gideon really just get killed by Bolas? Or is it just for show or whatever? Hard to tell.

"I don't know why people say a double-edged sword is bad. It's a sword. With two edges." - Kamahl, Pit Fighter
First off I doubt they will kill off Gideon, hence why he says he has allies (that can save him). I've also heard that M12 will in fact have a story and that it's probably a return to Zendikar, but that was from here so who knows for sure.
Considering he's says he's going to die with certainty, I feel like he means his allies are going to avenge him rather than save him.
I don't know anything about the story of any magic set ever printed - I don't care about them at all. But, just based on playing him in SuperFriends for a long time it's pretty clear that Gideon's job is to run out in front of the other walkers (his allies) and get his ass handed to him. Story Schmory, but game mechanics.... that's what he's talking about.
Now we have 7 walkers... and they can make ONE black walker right?
I didn't read the other pages, but Liliana Vess isn't going to be a walker in M12. She's the ''big boss'' of the upcoming set in october

It very much looks like to me they're giving us a background story for Gideon. He's from Alara. Otherwise they wouldn't use almost entirely Alara pictures. Besides they clearly show us Gideon is the main focus in Finest Hour
There's no evidence in any storyline that he is from Alara.
Does anyone have an account for Gamespot, so they can download/rehost the HD version of the trailer? I'd like to download it, but I don't have a paid account. -_-.
1. Have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

3. Regurgitate things you read on Starcitygames or Channelfireball.
4. Hate all netdeckers
5. Claim your 2nd place FNM deck broke the format and Delver is not even that good.
6. Tell everybody that MBC is coming back every time a new black card is released.

1. Was the Angel he summoned Platinum Angel or was that just me?
2. I honestly don't think we will get updated versions of anything. Yes, Jace 1.0 seems small, but he also seems small in comparison to most other things anyway. The issue here is what the planeswalkers fill in the format of a core set and the base 5 (with the inclusion of Sorkin and Gideon) do a good job of rounding out the color pie.
My only issues, I think Chandra is crap and always has been. I feel Jace 1.0 in most formats is a better to use card than Chandra ever has been, but perhaps that is just my playstyle. I would be advocating her removal, update, or revision before Beleren.
It would break the naming symmetry if some stayed "First name Last Name" and others had 2.0 names like JtMS. Either they're all gonna be 2.0s (3.0 in the case of Jace and Chandra) or none of them are.
that trailer made me think that the next year will be a big planeswalker crusade against bolas, I mean at the very end as bolas is towering over Gideon they all teleport in as he states he's made allies from enemies
So this guy's telling you that his family is going to be tossed out on the street penniless and starving and his dog is going to be kicked repeatedly if you don't give him a positive feedback...and he still won't honor the original deal?
"How did you know what you sought was redemption and not righteous vengeance?"
"You know what's dangerous about you, Doctor? It's not that you make people take risks, it's that you make them want to impress you. You make it so they don't want to let you down. You have no idea how dangerous you make people to themselves when you're around."
