Really though, does this have any real connection to the story? Wasn't Bolas a match for ALL of the Alara 'walkers?
Well, this was the final battle of the book Alara Unbroken so...its about as connected to the story as it gets...this literally happens in the story...
Was anybody else secretly hoping that they were Announcing whether it was Mirrodin Pure or New Phyrexia?
I bet that it will be Ajani Vengeant. He's wearing the same thing in that picture as he is in his Vengeant version. Although, he is wielding the double bladed staff from the Goldmane version.
in the story ajani stood up to nicol bolas and made a essence copy of bolas and had them fight each other. i guarantee its ajani vengeant and soul's fire will be included. i wonder what will be in the bolas deck!

He has the double-axe in his Vengeant version too. And Vengeant is the version who actually fought Bolas, anyway. Plus, another white weenie-based duel deck would be boooring. Naya colors opens up a lot more interesting stuff that can tie back to Ajani and his home.

both ajani cards have the same staff in them, he is wearing the same thing, the only difference is that he is angry in one and not in the other. I cant believe people will still say its prob ajani vengeant right after they said goldmane.

Because Goldmane is his name. It will be Vengent because that is who he is when he fights Bolas.

Goldmane is his name. Hence they refer to him as Ajani Goldmane.
It's gonna be Ajani Vengeant. The Duel Deck is Ajani vs Bolas hence we will be reliving the 'epic' conflict between them towards the climax of the Alara block.
During that time, Ajani Goldmane had only just become a planeswalker and was known as Ajani Vengeant. That said, this makes Ajani equal to Jace as the walker with the highest number of alternate arts?

I feel I have to refer back to the point that they used the character's names in the post, not card names. Considering its going to be a Planeswalker battle we are reasonably sure that they will be putting in Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker not Nicol Bolas. And considering the state Ajani was in during the fight in the story I think we can be rather certain that it will be Ajani Vengeant

He's not wearing the same thing in both versions. Vengeant is shirtless (like the duel deck art), Goldmane has shoulderpads and robes on his torso.
It will be interesting to see how the two decks are balanced. I'm guessing the Bolas deck will be slow as molasses and the Ajani deck will be really quick, because there is no other planeswalker out there that is as crushing as Nicol Bolas himself. I can't imagine Millar and Gottlieb not realizing that the whole game between the two decks is just going to be a race to see if Bolas hits the board or not.

[looks at Vengeant again] Huh. He does have the double headed axe. Well that settles it. It's got to be Vengeant.

Divine vs Demonic played fine and Akroma, Angel of Wrath was an atomic bomb that ended the game even easier than Nicol Bolas. It's 8 mana and a one of in a 60 card deck. The one game in 30 that Bolas stomps the piss out of someone will be just as epic and Timmyfied as the time I hardcasted Progenitus at the Conflux release. (I had 3 Rupture Spires)
I'll be honest, I'm a little disappointed they didn't go with the continued conflict of the cat vs the dragon. Give us a small detail as to the way the shape of the next block would shape up.
Some facts of magic:
-Terror is an emotion which, when experienced, results in death.
-The pox was a disease notorious for having killed one-third, rounded up, of Europe’s population. Smallpox, on the other hand, killed only a single person.
-A person riding a horse cannot be stopped by foot soldiers, large animals, walls, archers, or even catapults.

I totally disagree with Akroma being a more powerful game-ender than Nicol Bolas. Keep in mind that the Demonic deck was built to have answers to Akroma (Barter in Blood, Reiver Demon) as well as ways to tutor them out (Demonic Tutor) in order to make the Divine deck from being totally noninteractive. At the end of the day though, all Akroma does is swing.
Not only is Nicol Bolas considerably harder to answer being a planeswalker, but unlike Akroma, he creates a slippery slope effect that quickly cumulates into a quick win. In both the a neutral and disadvantageous gamestate, I will take Nicol Bolas over Akroma any day of the week. Nicol Bolas's slippery slope effect allows you to quickly turn the tide of the game to your favor, which Akroma can't do on the same level as Bolas.
At the very least, I fully expect Oblivion Ring to be in the Ajani deck.
Well, I knew this was coming. The real question is what colors Ajani's deck is going to be. I really hope it is the Naya colors, as we just had a mono white duel deck last year.

Actually, yes. I actually had a dream about it a few nights ago where they announced New Phyrexia. Premonition maybe?
Anyways, I already have both Ajanis, but I dont have Nicol Bolas so this will be a nice addition

Also, I think it will be Vengeant. The text they have attached to the announcement states that Ajani is seeking vengeance...so yeah.
Bolas is awesome though. As is the art!
