Oh look, the mind sculptor gets a lobotomy. In most normal games of magic, traumatize will mill more cards than this pile.
If this is the best you can do for blue mages, just stop printing blue cards. First we loose JTMS, then divination is the chosen card drawing spell over jace's ingenuity or foresee, and now this casual players planeswalker tops the cake.
The only good thing i could say about this is that in the mirror hopefully your opponent's activate their 0 and mill your jace's away in the process(saving you from having to draw them).
His +1 is just so much worse than JTMS's 0 ability. Brainstorm is leagues better than just drawing a card.
His 0 is a potential wincon, yes, but JTMS's +2 actually had an impact on the game while grinding towards his ultimate. Milling does not have an impact on the game until you get the last card. I repeat, this Jace, as a wincon, DOES NOTHING TO GIVE YOU AN ADVANTAGE UNTIL YOU WIN WITH IT. Mill is traditionally very bad in competitive for this reason.
He doesn't protect himself.
His ultimate does not end the game.
He costs 5.
Terrible, maybe one for EDH and thats it. I'd generally rather play Beleren. If the format becomes ridiculously slow then maybe, but don't count on it.
It's posts like this that make people kill each other.
I mean, we are going into a potentially graveyard themed block, and you are already saying that this is bad. Stupid? Maybe. I'd rather be polite and assume that there is just something wrong with you.
It's looks like they are finally trying to develop Mill into a viable win condition, so maybe we will have a slew of cards at the caliber of Oona.

It's hard not to sum this up as "Metagame? What that?" We have hints that Innistrad might have Flashback, giving Jace's +0 a lot more power. Mill 10 could translate to as many as 10 free spells. Sure, it's no Jace 2.0, but that's a flawed design. Much like Goyf, it was made too strong.
I just don't get how people can be so stupid as to compare the accidents of the game to well designed cards. "It's not Jace, the Metasculptor!" is what so many comments boil down to. Of course it isn't; a ****ing five year old could tell you that.
Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
This will likely be the set's overhyped card. While it looks good, it remains to be seen it will live up to the hype (and be actually played in top tier decks).
The one thing that might go against it is how it starts with relatively little loyalty and it's only loyalty adding ability is so weak nobody will be playing it.
Seriously, one of the worst arts I've ever seen... As for the card, it seems cute and all, but with a pretty low power level. Yeah, it can Glimpse every turn... but without any ability to protect itself, how long can it really stay around?
It's called control. It kinda specializes in stopping people from doing things.
This card might seem just ok right now, but I have a feeling it is going to be bonkers when INN comes out if it really is a GY set, being able to dredge 10 every turn could be huge.
That quote is from the Jace, the Mindsculptor thread when he was first spoiled. He was showing how similar the thread was to this one. The post was not talking about Jace, Memory Adept.

*sigh* here we go again. Look, I'm a blue mage and you know something, I'm not disappointed by this card. Blue just had ANOTHER card banned. If they're going to nerf Blue again, well perhaps it's blue's turn. It's not going to bother me in the slightest because frankly, if power needs to be handed to you as a blue mage I think you're kind of missing the spirit of the color. But again, not sure why I'm trying to convince you. I want this thing cheap as I've said more than once.
This card was made for those players who go to tournaments with their Glimpse the Unthinkable deck, and only win one match out of four. But they won't shut up about that one match. So, this is a perfect Johnny card.
Planeswalkers should have big, splashy effects. Some people think milling ten cards is a cool, splashy, powerful effect. I don't happen to be one of them. Especially at this much of an investment.
It's not a terrible card, it still draws a card. The 0 ability is ok in standard, but could be awesome in graveyard strategies, like dredge. The ultimate is also pretty good, but it does feel like an EDH (commander) oriented ability.
At least it's not, [0]: Brainstorm

this thread makes me sad. and not because of the card previewed, but because of the player reaction to it. alot of people are just full of nasty, stupid, knee-jerk bullcrap. it makes the community look bad. it makes alot of you look like complete fools.
the card itself is fine. we've certainly seem more powerful walkers, but we've also seen weaker ones. to me it seems like its about the same power level as Liliana Vess, but slightly better because drawing your own is usually better than discarding opponents. Liliana was always borderline playable and a legitimately good choice in control oriented metagames. this Jace looks about the same.
but thats just examining it on face value. its impossible to really tell right now but its pretty obvious that Innistrad block has a heavy graveyard theme and milling your own library for 10 may be a MUCH more powerful effect than it looks. flashback cards alone make this possible. consider what else it might synergize with. What if the Delve mechanic (a la Tombstalker) is part of Innistrad and Jace's mill 10 ability is almost equivalent to generating 10 mana? potentially sick.
please cut out the knee jerk bull and think a bit. a wait and see attitude helps alot.
His final including 'all' players makes me wonder if the ultimate on all 3 Lorwyn planeswalkers will be catered to a multiplayer crowd, especially with the recent EDH releases.

I really really hope that is not the case...This EDH garbage has gone on long enough already...They need to stick to making EDH cards in set's like commander and stay out the real formats of magic..

lol i still do that sometimes. i think lots of people do. pro or not. its human nature. i do agree that trying to make jace a mill machine is quite yawn'sworthy.
Yeah .. okay ... this guy looks pretty good for Mill. Still don't really see the point. I REALLY REALLY hope they're not pushing Mill as a new "thing." Combine that with "graveyard shenanigans" likely in Innistrad, and ... I dunno, I'm frankly not that excited.

And this is the reason why people fail ultimately... They lose insight on the "Potential" of a card in different situations... Though, Mind Sculptor was a problem in itself, this one seems balance and refreshing to see. Not every card in Magic needs to be the SINGLE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD... My T2 deck may not turn heads at first, but if the synergy is there, the deck will come together.
That, in essence, is why players fail.
Again, for those experienced enough to see Worlds (07 NYC baby!), you've yet to see anything that doesn't amaze you.....
I'm starting to think they should have given this planeswalker a new name. I think the biggest reason so many people on here is raging is because he has the name JACE.
To me, he looks like tezzeret 1.0. He has very limited uses, he has big flashy (mythic) abilities, and it appeals to new players.
Last time I checked, the core set was designed to attract new players, and he does exactly that. He appeals to Johny and Timmy players. Draw twenty? Doesn't that make the little, noob blue player inside of you giggle with glee? Jace, the Mindsculptor failed at that regard. As good as JTMS was, none of my new player friends thought he was powerful at all because his ultimate was lame compared to Ajani or Chandras.
To all the spikes here, relax, take a seat, have a cup of tea. Smash some kid with it in limited, then trade it to him for all his titans. Or sell it on ebay for more then it's worth.

- To my youngest sister when she was 6.
Since when is draw 1 per turn weak?
It's bad, but not because of a weak +1.
It's called control. It kinda specializes in stopping people from doing things.
Guess we will see when INN comes out.
