Planechase was my favorite of all the summer release products that they've done so far, so I am excited about this. The Commander decks were great too, Archenemy I felt kind-of lukewarm about after playing it a few times with friends.
Still haven't gotten around to picking up a set of the originals (as my old playgroup had a guy with all of them and I never needed them) but I probably will try and do that before this summer rolls around and then maybe get these then.
Definitely cool that they are adding in some new cards with these, and love that Shandalar will make a return!
Planechase on its own doesn't really grab me, but new eternal format/EDH cards? Color me intrigued.
I'm REALLY curious to know what the Commander-specific products will be. Honestly, I'm surprised that this summer's multiplayer product isn't more EDH.

I fear another card like Command Tower that mentions planes specifically. Worst card design ever printed
It's actually a pretty good design as far as I can see. It's much better than a legendary 5 colored land that leads to far too much Strip Mining. Instead, everyone gets to have one. Its drawback is that you can only play it in the format of one ofs.
I kind of doubt the possible land would specifically mention planes. More likely, it's specific to cards being in the command zone. You couldn't do that with Command Tower, though, since planes/schemes don't have colors, barring Painter's Servant.
I don't understand why people actually believe the new commander to be GOOD. He's certainly COOL, but at 7 he's going to cascade into EVERYTHING (including the tiny ramp spells that you inevitably need to cast him before you lose the game). People are viewing this card as a cooler Tooth And Nail when it's not even in the same universe as such.
EDIT: Though he may not be terrible in an Animar deck, but there's still a lot of things you don't really want to cascade into in that deck.

I really like him for several reasons (in my Animar deck). Generally, because I'm only going to be paying 3-5 for him often enough, and still getting possibly 5-7 mana spells out of him. Second, even if I only flip over some of my 1-3 mana creatures, they are still creatures, and often enough, casting 3 creatures in one card is excellent for Animar. It's enough to quickly recover and get going again if your Animar was destroyed.
Finally, just having a creature giving all your other creatures haste is absurd. I always wished I could have Madrush Cyclops in my Animar deck, and have had to settle for non-creature Fires of Yavimaya.
It'll have some bad plays, but it's also ridiculously powerful for an Animar deck. I always enjoyed bloodbraid elf in that deck for the quick recovery and usually 2 counters for Animar, and two bloodbraids stapled together with some global haste is going to be too good to pass up.

As far as wanting a "creature giving all your other creatures haste" Urabrask, the Hidden is better. Malestrom Wanderer is really really awesome in Animar even if he only hits 2 small ramp cards in your deck. That's two less cards you have to worry about drawing. He's decent without being brought out cheaper and much better with stuff like Wordly Tutor or Divining Top and other fun.

Even in Riku, being able to cast him, then copy one thing he cascades into(if you have 10 mana available during your turn) is good. The worst thing that could happen is you get a 7/5 with global haste, two lands off a rampant growth, and something else for 10 mana. That still seems pretty good. The possibility of getting three creatures with haste if you cast him right after a wrath also seems pretty awesome.
Planechase as a format is alright, but as long as they keep printing commander and cube cards in these summer products they will always be a good deal.
Interesting, wonder if any legacy playable gems will come out of this. Commander gave us flusterstorm and Scavenging Ooze, I wonder if this will have anything of similar quality.

"The smallest seed of regret can bloom into redemption."
interesting enough these phenomenon things look similar to a form of magic i play called uno magic (using uno cards to dictate turn order, card draw, who attacks who. its really fun.). that legend is nuts for EDH though. and YAY NINJA!!!!
In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck ********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like this to occur and validate you.

Since Wizards tries to print cards that appeal to more than one format, I suspect we will see some new cards meant for Legacy and Vintage, and I suspect we will not be hearing about them for a long time.

Looks pretty cool, I tihnk phenomena are pretty neat and add fun to a Planechase game (does anyone even play non EDH planechase?)
I don't play Commander Planechase, because I get 12 deck planar magic going. That's 720 cards alone, without the planes. If they were Commander, it'd be 1200 on a table, and we're afraid the table would break (jk obviously).
This annoucement makes it look less like they forgot and that they "spaced them out." I would bet $.37 that those two will be in here. It's kind of a "why the hell wouldn't they complete the cycle" thing.
They could finish the Ravnica cycle, because they have the Izzet plane and Dimir plane, so they still have 8 of those to do!
My guess (for a third of it) would be that they would have:
Jund
Esper
Simic
Orzhov
Shandalar
Eiganjo
Gavony
a New Phyrexia
a Jamuraa
a Muraganda
a post-ROE Zendikar

I'm not really sure how I missed Urabrask for that function. Good call. Now I just need to obtain one.
I actually just laughed out loud when I saw that creature. But i'm so psyched for this product. Wizards just keeps on demanding more and more from my wallet. Hopefully, this means that they'll keep on making more products with all-new cards in them, since those add a lot to the excitement. and since they can't be used in standard, that doesn't lead to very degenerate prices, for the most part.
And I think they knew this would happen. The announcement looks to be geared towards an audience that loves EDH but doesn't really care about Planechase.
Well, I mean, the reality is that Commander has a huge, dedicated, pre-existing fanbase whereas Planechase is entirely a product of the single deck release they'd previously done. I think the idea is more to get people to buy these because they fit into their casual format of choice and have the Planechase cards tempt them into giving the PC format another shot (or mixing it with Commander, or whatever.)
I wonder how phenomena will work with the Eternities Map variant.
I'd like it if they'd give an "official" answer. Eternities Map rules. Honestly, I think they should print the EM variant directly in the Planechase rulebooks this time around.
I guess the ones who speculated that each summer would rotate between Planechase, Archenemy, and Commander were right?
Not exactly. In the article, Monty Ashley mentioned that he was told to pass on that R&D were already working on a Commander follow-up; if I were to make a baseless speculation I would say Commander is going to jump from the summer release cycle of Planechase, Archenemy, and Commander and get a release schedule all to itself.
Although, it could also work as Planechase, Commander, Archenemy, Commander, Planechase, etc.
