Something tells me someone in that chain is exaggerating.
I make *plenty*, and my employer lets me play on the clock when things are slow.
I'm pretty sure it would actually be illegal to fire someone on those grounds,
unless they work at Warhammer or something
California is an at will employment state. They can fire you for anything as long as it isn't illegal like getting fired based on race or sexual orientation.
While MTG seems like a dumb thing to be fired for, it isn't exactly a great selling point in a lot of fields either.
This is pretty neat. Although waiting will be absolute agony, i like it whenever we get spoilers with a twist. I wasn't expecting anything until this weekend at PAX, so an early spoiler, and Avacyn herself for that matter, is exciting.

Oh man, I forgot about the PAX spoilers! WOOT!!
Also people, post this on your twitter accounts! I certainly have quite a few MTG followers that don't have Salvation accounts!
A.) I could have swore that is what facebook was for?
B.) That train has left the station, returned, left, returned, left, returned... You get the point.
Im not sure what facebook is for but it should be for sharing photos and organizing events/parties with that friends and friends of friends etc
and yes big picture wise its way past the point of consumers having any meaningful impact on it, BUT regarding the specific product its not to late at all.
I mean yea go ahead and buy into all of the nonsense but when we need 20,000 shares and whatever other hoops jumped through to get the next "big" spoiler for a product we have to actively go out and purchase and is in a niche market you will be "reaping what you sow" so to speak

Magic players have made it abundantly clear that their time is worth $0/hour in their opinion, so no sympathy there. -DR jeebus or something
Well keep in mind people are coming home from school and getting off of work within in the next 2 hours, and might not be able to check phones/accounts at these places... I think we'll see it pretty quickly... it's the right time for this kind of promotion to run, that's for sure.
True, but 4.5 hours is a good "at the latest" estimate, if the rate of sharing is indeed slower than what it would be later in the afternoon. I for one, really hope it spoils in the next couple hours as opposed to having to wait till 5:00. (I work the evening shift, and checking it on my phone is difficult due to service in my area.)

Gee I dunno, like every other business field where playing magic adds nothing to your career whereas if you play golf, you can pretty much play with 90% of your clients?
How is playing magic a great selling point if you're a stock broker or a financial adviser?
But for what purpose? Yea we get "spoilers" but on the other hand do you really want to spam your friends and contacts with nonsense they dont care about? Hiding and slowly doling out your products info is only a good marketing strategy up to a point. We will get the spoilers eventually even if it never gets to whatever number of facebook treat points.
If you participate in this kind of nonsense "social media marketing" you only encourage it. Its best to not participate and stop it now before it becomes the norm. I refuse to participate and instead wrote an email to wizards to express my dislike of the marketing strategy and their poorly working app. I hope others will choose to do the same.
If you're anything like me, you have a bunch of your FNM buddies as friends on Facebook anyway, so it really doesn't matter.
Social media marketing is the future. Every company is doing it. Get with it or get left behind.
I believe that I have enough social competence to slip into a party or two, potentially wooing some attractive females that would not mind spending the evening performing the booty dance on me.

Which is exactly the fields in which the people I referenced were/are employed.
It's not surprising financial advisers and stockbrokers play games that have heavy number crunch through.

The more pertinent question would be what does it *detract* from your employability. Or does one literally not share anything that doesn't directly increase the odds of getting a job in their desired field?
I don't think they had one, but besides, bad form for anyone to pull a prank on a large scale AFTER the date. If anything, the Friday before is common though if the date is on a weekend.

Sure, but what exactly does marketing a product to my friends that are part of that dedicated audience even accomplish? We all know when it comes out plan to purchase that product and even discuss it. There is no real net gain for anyone involved here. Social media marketing is extremely over hyped and you can say what you will about it being the "future of marketing" but just taking the blind shot at free advertisement at the expense of your core audiences social capital is ridiculous.
Something like a free/discount *insert product that has wide appeal* is fine, its not something I like but its a very valid and profitable market strategy. I see lots of restaurants and stores running free or discounted products if you check in or like something. Thats a valid marketing tactic. What wotc is doing is not.

fight the power...
but seriously, i think if the app worked correctly we could have had the spoiler an hour ago. if nothing else, this is a good way for them to figure out what is wrong and fix the fantasy pro tour app while they are at it.
Most states in the USA are "at will" employment, which means your boss can fire you for anything under the sun provided that the state in question hasn't made it illegal to do so. Extra-empolyment activites you can still be fired for, even if that sounds dumb.
It's usually not even for religious reasons, it's just for "that's not a professional hobby, like golf or badmitton or kicking poor kids!"
