The effect could prove so discombobulating to combo players, in particularly, they may fizzle and run away screaming. "From that day the Curse of the Plateau was upon me, and I found every hand I ever pull from a combo deck is a mulligan."

A 40 dollar mythic rare would constitute a must have 4 of that goes in many decks.
Stats About Mythics
-Mythics are on average 40% rarer than pre-mythic rares
(old blocks about 200 rares, Mythic blocks 35+ mythics)
-They are printing more new cards a year not less
(about 665 now vs. 630 in most pre-mythic block)
-To drop the value of a rare by $1 a mythic must go up $2
-In a 3 year time span deck prices doubled. I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause.
Highly doubtful that the manipulator will see any kind of competitive constructed , but I certainly like it. It's another Simic card, along with Fathom Mage, that looooooooves Forgotten Ancient. Taking off a load of counters to steal your opponents' best fatty doesn't hurt nearly as much in a 5-man chaos game when the Ancient is reloading him each turn.
What made most of the counter related things reasonable until now is that they didn't need a lot of setup to work, but this one need too much setup, if he gained the control without removing counters he could be playable, he could maybe even be bumped to 2/3, to make his own evolving a bit harder.
Manipulator made me nearly vomit in my mouth. This card is what control magic abilities should look like if a common creature had them....
Right....cause creatures capable of repeatedly producing what is normally a 5 drop uncommon enchant, only without the whole "destroy it to get it back" flaw are SO common.
Come on man, seriously, not liking the card is no excuse to be just plain silly.

The manipulator probably isn't going to affect any constructed formats, but if he does, he's going to grow pretty quickly. I mean, why would you not run something like . . . I don't know, Restoration Angel, in the deck that runs him? If you're doing things right, you could easily get him up to three counters on turn four.

Actually, yeah, This card seems like an example of how to do creature stealing at common. I'm not even really mad at it or anything, just being realistic. They just took the power out of this card at every possible angle to suppress its impact. It seems like a middle level uncommon as is, and would be common at like 4 mana or something. At rare this is bewildering.

I do like the fact that he helps in the battle against over-extension. He works well alongside Boros Charm, giving you more options with the mana you'd be leaving up. The more I think about it, the more I like him. The problem is, we need more 1-drops not 2-drops.
Take your monoblack deck, then set aside 14 swamps. Add 4 Creeping Tar Pits, 4 Darkslick Shores, 4 Drowned Catacombs, and 2 Jwar isle Refuge and add 4 Jace, the Mindsculptors. Your monoblack deck is instantly better. Better yet, drop those refuges, throw in some islands and some mana leaks, and lo and behold, you're now playing a real deck. Congratulations. Welcome to the world of competitive M:TG.

Yes, but since he's so game ending and great, he'll make the cut. This isn't a MTG Christmasland. This is a two card combo that can easily end the game on turn 4. Now we only need an another good one-drop and it's on!
Reading through the comments relating to Manipulator really shows how spoiled magic players have become. I'm sorry it can't steal a creature for turn and requires an investment to get going. Isn't that why decks are designed around the mechanics utilized. I think everybody is just getting too used to throwing all the best cards of X colors together and having decks work like that rather then designing decks that work well together. The Manipulator is a fine creature, if it were any more powerful it would be broken, better to have something be weaker then to have it warp the format.

Ah silly me. Thanks for the reminder! If I get this in limited, I'm definitely going to be chiding players in her voice.

Also, this couldn't be common. The rarity system doesn't work like that.
