Execrated Prophecy :1mana::symb::symb: Sorcery
As an additional cost to cast Execrated Prophecy, pay X life.
Look at the top five cards of your library. Put one of those cards into your hand and exile the rest. Repeat this process X times.
I think im going to wait till they actually spoil the card, than look like a total idiot posting weather or not its a Bob ability, Arena Ability, or Tutor ability.
2 pages worth of tutor abilities after being told its not a tutor ability... jezz... how freaken ignorant.

Me, Tom, and hopefully Gavin Varhey are recording the 'cast tonight. I was actually wrong about the date. we can "legally" post it as of 12:01 am friday night, and probably will do so.
I promise it will be worth the wait. And I am excited about the card, but just didn't want everyone busting their rumps for no reason. Some of the guesses here where very close, but some of them were WILDLY off in outerspace.
Though, I must admit, I really dig the ideas you guys have come up with. you're a creative bunch.

I'm not being condescending. I'm just being honest. the ideas here are good, but some of them are just too broken to even be considered in an expansion, much less a core set. if anything, I'm supporting your earlier post about S. Library.

Hmmm How about this based of off S. Library:
Dark Tutelage BBBB
Enchanment - Rare
At the beginning of your draw step look/reveal the top card of your library you may draw that card and lose life equal too is cmc?

I don't understand why anyone would think we'd get a MUCH worse phyrexian arena. Arena wasn't even CRAZY powerful. If they're going to replace it, reasoning dictates that it'd either be an upgrade (highly likely seeing the power level of m11 so far) or at least on par. Something like a functional reprint with a tweak perhaps? I have a hard time deciding what the proper cost of a dark confidant ability would be on an enchantment though. 3 mana or more is worse than arena. 2 mana seems stronger than the confidant. hmm..

2B might be a good answer for that. Splashable, loses more life than Arena, but Arena at 1BB is more restricted to heavy black builds.
It's hard to really wait when there are all these very good ideas around and when the final card comes around, it all disappoints. Oh, spoiler season.

Dude, I LIKED your idea. and I completely agree! a black life loss S.L. would make much more sense now that the color wheel is more defined, yeah?
I suppose one more harmless hint wouldn't hurt...
This card could be played in vintage.
This isn't harmless you know. This just means that this card can either be power like we have never known, perhaps creating a new decktype in Vintage, or merely something that was created to combat the powerful spells used in Vintage.
And I will be pessimistic and say that it is probably the latter.
Some of the guesses here where very close, but some of them were WILDLY off in outerspace.
I looked over the pages of this thread to see all of the non-tutor guesses. The stuff that strikes me as consistent is below:
1) Black
2) Enchantment
3) Gives you cards
4) Makes you lose life
The "WILDLY off in outerspace" guesses are probably those involving creature control and auras, as these represented a minority of the card designs. The Sylvan Library/Dark Confidant ideas are also likely the best.
Other considerations about the card:
1) It can't be worse than Phyrexian Arena. This was not a problematic card by any means in any format, and Wizards is not so stupid to think otherwise. That means if this card gives you only 1 extra card per turn, it either needs to cost less than Arena, or it needs to give you more options in choosing the card.
2) It shouldn't mess around with Sarkhan the Mad's abilities. That means it probably won't be a verbatim copy of Confidant's ability (even though I like the "Dark" overlap in their names.
3) With Howling Mine gone and Temple Bell spoiled, it is unlikely that a card will have you drawing additional cards. If you draw additional cards, it will be during your upkeep.
With that in mind, here's my safe design for it.
Dark Tutelage 1BB
Enchantment
Skip your draw step.
At the beginning of your upkeep, look at the top two cards of your library. For each of those cards, pay 2 life or put them on the bottom of your library.
This simplifies the Sylvan Library design by skipping the complicated "cards drawn this turn" part, and it avoids the "beginning of the draw step" reference. I doubt it will be a BBB card, because Phylactery Lich already has that rare mana cost in this set. 1BB or even 1B (referencing both Confidant and Library) would be more likely (although 1B pushes the power envelope).
If Jack says that this card could see vintage play, then it still does have a good shot at being some kind of draw engine that can compete with the likes of Dark Confidant. It's probably one of those cards that won't really be great in Standard/Extended, however, unless it is truly insane. Simply put, this sounds like this will be something akin to Thada Adel in Worldwake (i.e. a card specifically designed to crack the eternal formats).

This is too weak with both the skipped draw and the 2 life cost. Arena lets you draw an additional card for 1 life. In the very least, and it would still be a nerf, have it so that each card you draw costs you 1 life. The scrying aspect is cool, but for every card you scry you lose card advantage - it would very rarely be worth bottom-decking a card instead of just drawing it for eventual use later.

Easy fix: get rid of the skipped draw step. That would retain the card's flavor AND make it more powerful without being broken.

mmm so you can basicly scry2 every turn at the cost of 2 life for each card you wanna keep on top .... doesn't really sound like vintage material to me
and actually quite playable in EDH. edit: Hope ur right
Good catch. I missed the most important part of the card (the drawing). Thank you for catching that. I have edited the above post to reflect that change.
Dark Tutelage 1B
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, reveal the top card of your library and put that card into your hand. You lose life equal to its converted mana cost.
OMG. That's almost better than Bob. Bob suffers the drawback of being a creature which makes him more vulnerable than an enchantment.
Could it mean in order to gain knowledge, or assistance, you have to trade something else?
Enchantment
You can't cast spells.
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may draw a card.
Discard your hand: Destroy Dark Tutelage.
Or
Enchantment
When Dark Tutelage enters the battlefield, discard your hand.
At the beginning of your upkeep, draw an additional card.
"Before I can help you, you must first empty your mind of all distractions"
The latter is my best guess. It can be abused in vintage by simply playing out your entire hand turn 1 (moxen, lotus, rituals, ect.) and then dropping it for almost no downside. Then you have a better Bob.
maybe i've read this wrong. but when jack said this could be played in vintage. i keep thinking sure does everything fall under that.unless it's ban of course. maybe we need another hint
My impresions from the picture: maybe its a "blind" tutor, maybe you name a card type, reveal cards from the top until you nail that kind of card, put it in your hand and the rest in the graveyard/bottom/removed. Or maybe "name" the card and reveal from the top.
